I just replaced my Radiator on a 2010 Ford Explorer. Everything was easy except the Transmission lines. I spent 3 hours trying. Even with the special tool. Someone on KZbin used a torch. It worked great but a little dangerous. I used my Heat Gun and the end came off in 3 minutes. Amazing!!! Sooo happy. The heat gun is the same gun used to heat shrink wires, etc. Good Luck

Very helpful comment but sooo not encouraging lol I have a 2010 Explorer as well and I'm about to replace my radiator. I've had a heat gun on my Home Depot wish list for a while now. Maybe this will be the reason. Do you recall which special tool you used? There are a couple different styles.

@@calvinpryor I tried with a fuel line disconnect tool. I spent hours and hours trying but it would not disengage. The heat gun worked great. It melted the internal gasket and it separated in minutes. I did not have to use a torch. Fast and simple

Lol at this actually working. Just did the radiator on my Explorer and those lines just don't come out. I used the die grinder method to split the fitting and release it. You have to be careful with the grinder to not touch the actual line or you're hosed--it will never seal right if you grind a groove on it. Once this fitting is split I noticed that there is a nylon ring that holds the barbs in place. Next time I'll use the propane torch and burn the nylon off. After trying all the special tools you'll realize you have to get medieval on this and get the torch out.

Yeah, I just bought a quick-disconnect tool case for Ford and GM and thought I was ready to replace my coolant lines and find out that NONE of the tools in the case work on modern Ford vehicles for trans cooling lines. I had already taken off my lines from the trans and thought I was golden but noooo. Thanks for the hack!

I cut the plastic handle off a 3 gallon water jug. Cut it in half long ways. Put a bolt inside of it. Molded it perfectly round. Took less than 5 minutes to make. Snapped over the line pushed it in and pulled out the line in 3 seconds.. this trick absolutely works but just needed alittle more thought put into it.. i hardly ever buy cheap specialty tools like this.. if one man can make it so can u... and usually save tons.. 10 bucks is ten bucks.

Good one! I used two tiny flat-head screwdrivers & disconnected the line within a few seconds. The "special" tools are a very bad design, no matter the company they come from. Two tiny screwdrivers did the job, like I said, in a few seconds. I returned the "special" tools, btw.

yea I think I'll try 2 screwdrivers **first* lol I have my doubts that the plastic will be stiff enough to push back the metal "crimps" that are pushing up against the mump in the pipe. Plus there's probably a ton of dirt and debris in there too. Your method sounds waaaay better.

Great video, in the middle of this now. Of course I have a plow truck that has been native to Ohio since 2006, its Manufacturer year. Needless to say there is considerable amounts, and I mean herculean amounts of rust and corrosion underneath, including the above referenced 3/64" where my tool needs to go. I have a decent ($35) disconnect tool made my Lisle. (Part # 39220), still cant seem to get 2 of them of the Trans-cooler. PB Blaster and Kroll Oil on them last night, gonna venture out now, with a few plastic strips to clean rust out for a few hours.. lol Thanks

Disconnecting the heater hoses? 3 hours, even with the special tool...and then had to end up cutting the tubes off the old core anyway...and it was STILL hard getting the hoses off, even with the ends being out from under the cowl!

Step 1) Walmart Step 2) 20$ Grinder Step 3) Nice alcoholic beverage Step 4) grind ever so closely with a metal blade nice and easy right up to the line be careful now! Don’t get greedy it’s aluminum.. so a nice small gash and a flat head screwdriver to pry it apart. Step 5) high five your best bud and smile. Step 6) install new trans cooler.

@@WrenchingWithKenny I think a video would help because the section you cut out in this vid is pretty much square and in the middle of the bottle. Which wouldn't really give you that curved part on the end of each strip. I'm guessing one of the edges of the "square" you cut out has to be on the very bottom of the jug or at the top of the jug, right at the base of the "neck"

@WrenchingWithKenny
@WrenchingWithKenny 2 жыл бұрын
You have to make a bulge in the line to stop it from sliding off. Same as how a radiator hose slides on over a bulge that will hold it in place. Usually , Ill use a double flare tool and partially perform the first step. This will give a bulge that the clamp cannot slide over

The easiest way is to send all of your ford customers back to the dealership. I won't work on a ford unless the customer understands that ford has been deliberately designing all of their vehicles to be so ridiculously over engineered and complicated that the labour will be at least 10 times more than a GM truck. If you live in the rust belt like I do, you are never getting that line out of that fitting with a little scrap of plastic, and as far as using the proper tools... That line is not designed to come apart. According to the factory service manual, you are supposed to replace the fitting and the lines and the radiator.
