Until Gaza, I sort of just believed everything for the most part that came out of the news and US government I didn’t think very deeply about it. Now seeing the disgusting crimes and lies coming out of the state dept and the president, I just don’t believe a single word they say about any country or anything in general. I’ve found myself literally questioning EVERYTHING. My views on so many countries have changed drastically. If anything I think Gaza has radicalized MANY of us, for the better.

Like this video very much, as an american, specifically a new yorker, my hometown has been in a progressive downward trend. Everyday i get a citizen app alert about a nearby gun shooting. Just today 2 officers shot in elmhurst. 4 shot in south bronx. I switched jobs just so i dont have to be subjected to taking the subway, where i have been punched, out of no where, and regularly groped by men. For years, since 2015 i biked due to fear, of subway assault. Now i took a 50%% paycut, because of childcare and subway dangers. So yea this report resonates with me.

The white papers on human rights have been mentioned in Australia a couple of times. Like when Australia parrots US lines about forced labour (mainly to provide cheap goods to the west), Australia mentions its own white paper on human rights abuses. China doesn't advertise or promote its own but releases at the same time a white paper on Australia's human rights abuses and use it only to reply to Australia's claims. The UN also put out an annual report which western countries just ignor.

As with all news sources, the audience must always ask 1. Why the report is being presented at that moment, and 2. What the intent is in publishing the report. What I find interesting about this report is that there's no connection made between the ruling classes and the government, and between increasing wealth and increasing rulership/power. In fact, the conclusion of the report places the responsibility of moving with the times on the US government, not the US people(s). Given that the report highlights human rights violations, it makes sense that this isn't included, but this also means that the report doesn't target the vast majority of self-identified Americans, since in capitalist nations the most urgent and immediate issue has always been the relationship between wealth and power, with human rights being further down the list of priorities.

My only criticism is that you didn't save the mention of who wrote the report until the very end. I think you stand to capture more attention, particularly from the most polarized and least receptive audience, by stringing out all of those issues from the foreword which any sane person listening ought to agree with or acknowledge, only to then reveal at the end where the report originated from. Other than that exceedingly minor of quibbles, great video. Been following since around when your first Hong Kong videos came out, and it is somewhat... curious that I haven't seen any of your videos pop up in my feed since the military industrial complex video more than two years ago.

"human rights" is a term that's been thrown around quite a lot... it's an empty catchphrase now - like "freedom" and "democracy"... what does "human rights" actually mean? especially to american ears. perhaps we should put "human rights" beside the word "racism" to see what they mean. racism is defined as a belief that the colour of one's skin is a fundamental determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race. so a group of "humans" fighting for their "right" to be treated equally as all other races. there are those two keywords again. funny how in america, racism and human rights aren't ever mentioned in the media in the same breath or same subject. when covering racism, it’s about racism and it’s an american internal issue. when covering human rights, that’s reserved for outside of america, and it requires your undivided attention because it’s worse than racism. out there in china-land they’re genociding our dearly beloved recently-discovered uyghur muslims. and by god you know how we righteously inherently good american folk care about our muslims. those humans have rights! sound the alarm! the world needs to see the atrocities that are being committed on our uyghur brothers and sisters! hold on wait, our black folks fighting for their rights aren’t humans fighting for their rights - here we call it racism - and that’s a completely separate issue. it’s at this moment, the term “moral high ground” comes to mind. it’s so mind-boggling to see how a zeitgeist affects the masses to a point where human rights and racism are thought as separate issues. i’d say the powers that be have successfully convinced the simpletons that these are in fact separate. a final ramble/term, “what-about-ism”, hey america let’s address your systematic racism, NO let’s talk about your human rights violations…. and the vicious cycle continues…

Let's see... US domestic human rights issues: Detention centers for child immigrants, separating them from their parents. Mass holding of immigrants without status. Holding 'enemy combatants' indefinitely, using torture (Guantanamo). Holding large numbers of Native American population in relocation and concentration camps. Over 2 million citizens held in prisons (highest proportion of imprisoned citizens). Many prisoners being used for forced labor. Cops shoot dead over 1,000 citizens annually. And if you believe 'human rights' also involve access to basic good shelter, food, healthcare, and education, - then you can also bring up the homelessness crisis, deaths of despair, mental health crisis, medical access and affordability, and disparities in education quality. Necessitous men are not free men.
