Born in late 90s, Like all Chinese kids I grew up watching JTTW. For me, the difference is I grew up in a Korean family so did not speak mandarin as a kid. But I learned 敢问路在何方, the other JTTW song with lyrics when I did not speak a word in Mandarin simply because it was always there and I was always watching Wukong as a kid. That's how much this means to me. 作为90后，从小就一直在看86版西游记。对我来说比较特别的是我从小在朝鲜族家庭长大，所以汉语是后来看电视慢慢学的。西游记的敢问路在何方就是在我小的时候还不会说汉语，纯靠空耳学会的。这就是西游记对我的意义，在我连汉语都说不好的时候齐天大圣就已经在心里了。

one note is that the ending animation's events are shown in reverse order. the first scene is actually the last memory of WuKong when fighting ErLand on the mountain, and the last scene is the beginning of his claiming to be the king. So basically the Destined one is having a flash back of all of WuKong's memory. Also IMO the Old Monkey is a spy/bad guy. His last appearance (flowing cloth) suggests that he is of divinity/celestial origin, His job is to ensure the encaging headband to be put back on WuKong's head. (Good ending WuKong awaken before he had a chance to put it back on). He lied to us in the prolog about the whole WuKong's death event (WuKong didn't get killed, he decided to died. The Relics didn't ran on their own, WuKong was not alone at the fight but all of the 5 chapters' last bosses are presented and was given a piece of Relic by ErLang. That's why Black Bear thought it was all the Celestial Palace's order). WuKong's mind was not broken but was taken by ErLang. If ErLang did not review this and gave back WuKong's mind, we would have believe all the BS the old monkey was telling us)....

I'm not saying it's a fact , but the hmong ( miao) king chiyou . Is similar to wukong. In China wukong has yellowish or brown hair. In the past majority of hmong have yellowish or brown hair. Hmong people still have the hair color today but very few now. And when chiyou was defeated, his body parts were spread throughout China. But hmong ( miao) are not known to be buddhist. They are majority shaminist.
