As a foreigner it's better to buy where you are wanted and secure your assets in a simple freehold investment. Remember a leashold you can't pass it to your children.

Hi Maddy, you have to complete the leasehold tenure of 99 years after which you can have it as freehold on renewal of the tenure ONLY if it was previously freehold.

It's called a Mother Title. The period depends on the size of land being subdivided, the efficiency of the specific county land's office and time the approvals will take and drawing of the land map at survey of Kenya.

Hi Julia, as long as you remain a Kenyan Citizen nothing changes. Gaining second citizenship doesn't change your property ownership status.

Hi Bamidele, all foreign property ownership in Kenya is on leasehold tenure despite the location. Annual taxes must be paid yearly and they are determined by the property location. A company can own land in Kenya if it is fully owned by Kenuan citizens. Any private company with a foreign share holder is not considered fully Kenyan and hence cannot own land.

Hi Ephrem, those are good questions. As a foreigner, there are some limitations such as: 1. You can only buy property on leasehold terms. 2. If you buy any freehold property, it will be converted to leasehold tenure automatically (99 years). 3. You cannot buy agricultural land unless through a public company owned by Kenyan citizens as one of the shareholder. Note: If you marry a Kenyan citizen for more than 7 years you can own property in Kenya without many limitations. Please feel free to consult my Real Estate Company on 0755617054.
