John Skinner is still in a Michigan prison serving a sentence of 60 to 90 years. He will be eligible for release in 2047 when he is 76 years old. The judge at his sentencing even called him a despicable monster. The crime happened on March 4, 1993, not in October and the victim was actually named Audrey Sprey, not Nichols.

Everybody please harden your exterior doors against kick ins Just replace the screws in the lower hinges, strike plate and deadbolt with 3.5" or 4" screws (except deadbolt screws have to be shorter so the screws don't poke into the lock) If there's glass in or near the door, get a deadbolt that's keyed on both sides You can also get an anti kick in device like a night lock or the defender u series door lock which is really cheap

That back door should have been replaced with a better one, meaning, a stronger door. It seems that it was not that strong after all when this perpetrator kicked it. People don’t think about these things but I do all the time. We have very strong doors that it would not be easy to kick to gain entry beside owning a fire arm. A detective that we know told us to get a dead bolt locks for all doors which the police says it is the best one to have. And even if one needs to put bars on the windows and doors, by all means do it, your life depends on how safe you are. As it is, you are no longer safe in your own home and you have to be prepared for anything especially when you live alone like Audrey did. It is sad that Audrey lost her life just because of a perpetrator who needed money for drugs! It was a senseless crime that didn’t have to happen. Maybe this perpetrator was stalking Audrey without her knowing it to know her comings and goings, and when he most likely knew she lived alone, he acted on his impulses to rob that house!!! It is real tragedy that you retire to enjoy your life and you get killed. It is horrible, really horrible to die for no reason at all…….only because of an evil man who wanted money to satisfy his drug habits. Very disgusting and disgraceful, an awful tragedy. Rest In Peace, Audrey 🙏🙏🙏

Thus episode is a reminder that no one is safe anymore in their own homes due to perpetrators wanting money to buy the damn drugs, plain and simple. It saddens me that a good lady was killed just for $100 dollars to buy more and more drugs. These criminals don’t want to work and for them it is easier to rob people rather than finding a job. And sadly, they won’t want to kick the habit of using drugs …they will continue to burglarizing homes to steal money….the easy way for them. Sad and truly disgusting. Rest in peace always, Audrey 🙏

If this young man said he chose Audrey’s house at random to commit robbery, why kill Audrey? Why? There is no excuse for what he did, none whatsoever. He took a life just for $100 to buy the damn drugs. Unbelievable, my gosh, what this world has come to disgust me, and especially, what human beings can do to others. It is appalling. Rest in Peace always, Audrey 🙏

My fellows bungalow is almost impenetrable. Windows barred. Doors with security doors but once he discovered a key broken off on the back door, he further secured with a bar across the inside door that could be kicked in! And if that doesn't work, he's got protection and so have I. I am not afraid to love in his. Neighborhood. A Ring doorbell is next!

He didn't have to kill her, just grab the purse and run - I hope he gets decades of the worst prison has to offer...what a waste of good air. *I love this man's voice - Peter Addenbrooke Thomas could read me a telephone book and lull me to sleep. He's been a comfort to me for decades, I suffer from insomnia and night terrors from being molested as a child, and raped as a woman. He makes me feel safe - well, he did until Election day. *(I can't believe how many bad toupee's are on this channel - delightful entertainment!) I think the toupee on the gray suit at the end is Flo's wig from Mel's Diner.

The gun discharged accidentally as per this perpetrator, John Skinner. I agree with this investigator, that was a bull crap alright. Poor lady, she was killed for $100 dollars to use it for drugs. Unbelievable what folks do for drugs, it is ashamed and disgusting. Rest in Peace always, Audrey 🌹🙏

Maybe Spalding made shoes at some point but I'm 26 and don't recall it. Was probably a rare shoe even back then. Probably narrowed it down pretty well. If he was wearing something more iconic like Jordans or Chuck Taylors he might have got away with it.

For safety, I prefer living in an apartment which is at least on the second floor, not a house. A house has too many windows and often poorly-made doors, as in this FF episode. Therefore, a house is easily accessible for robbers. I once lived in a 4th floor apartment, BUT it had a fire escape next to my two livingroom windows. Before moving in, I called a business which installed wrought iron gates. I had a pretty white gate installed to cover the windows on the inside. Plus, it was easy to unlock it so I could get out, if necessary. I always felt safe there.

This investigation was DOA if the offender didn't talk about the crime. I don't know who the prisoner was who wrote the letter, what his motivations for writing the letter were, but he is somehow the hero of this story.

Im surprised she didnt have a gun for home defense, having been with the local police force im sure she knew the value of doing so. Much easier to defend yourself with a gun than it is with a dispatcher and a phone. Im not blaming the victim here, im just saying.

Obviously this poor lady couldn’t do anything about this situation but as a former dispatcher myself, I want everyone to know that you can actually text to 911 pretty much in the whole country now. Text your current location, name, and situation. Everything they need in one message. They can usually respond quicker to these since they don’t have to take time asking important questions.
