Look into buying one of these vans in New Zealand and converting it (slowly) like Foresty did. The first two are bigger inside than Foresty's one, and the rest are about the same. Toyota Alphard, Nissan Elgrand Mazda Biante, Honda Elysion You can get examples of all the above for under $10,000 Personally, I'm thinking about getting a Toyota Alphard.

As a current long haul trucker, I'd like to weigh in on this after reading some of these comments. Before you guys go bashing him for this kind of choice, saying stuff like "his priorities are backwards" or "he's just living in a fantasy", maybe consider what might have brought him to a choice like this. I've been driving for 4 years, nowhere near as long as some but long enough to understand that its not easy living on the road. Is it simpler? yes, it can be much, much simpler and more freeing to take a step back and really think about what your doing with life. Its not easy at times, but it can be done. The setup he has looks rather nice while also being efficient on space, although i sure hope that mattress is comfortable! Nothing makes a good nights sleep rough like a bad mattress. Is it less costly? In the long run, you'll very likely end up saving double the initial cost, as building something like this is always the most expensive part. Some people I've talked to have done this to save money, others have grown tired of this materialistic world and want to remove/distance themselves from it. Others have done it because its what they could afford or had no other choice. Yes, its true you need to find a bathroom or laundromat etc, but there are enough that unless your in a really rural place it should not be too hard. Had i done this before i got into driving, i might have reevaluated that choice. But, as 'hard' as it may seem, mostly due to modern kids being somewhat coddled in some ways and not so much in others, people like him are passing on knowledge that is of value should the same thing happen to one of us. Yes, there is a chance it might. Is it certain? No. Just my two cents after living on the road for the better part of 4 years.

My ex fiancee was an over the road driver- for yeears. He saved also by having his own inverter, fridge, tv, etc etc. When resting at truck stops due to jist grueling trips, always tried to rest where they had "plug and play"..most of the times at Wal-Mart, or truck friendly spots (very difficult-even then) he would check and find during trips which he would go to on the return. He saved a lot in the long run. I have contemplated that type of living for a while now. I watch the videos of people living in vans, suvs, cars, etc. A lot of them have steady work right in the area they are in..in other words, they never left their job! Others are blessed to have secured employment that they can do on a lap top or pre-planning presentations they will do for their employer, temp work as well. There is a community here on yt that even helps displaced families with that way of living..they fund themselves with donations and check the people out and they all get together and do the build for the inside of the vehicle!! I mean every thing! It is truly amazing!

I really enjoyed viewing your video. I love the idea of living out of a van. I retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 Active Duty years (1982 - 2002). At the time of my retirement, I owned a 1975 Chevrolet Cargo Van. So, I prepared my old van for a road trip, and hooked up my open trailer and loaded my 1999 Harley Davidson Dyna Wide Glide and set out on a 30-day Decompression tour from the military. It was a 30-day period for me to revert back to civilian life. I had a lot of fun, met a lot of nice people and attended 2 Biker Fest Rallies, one located in Tulsa Oklahoma and the second one was located in Tunica Mississippi. I did not have near the nice set up you had, but I tell you what, I had a wonderful night at the Tulsa Mayfest Biker Party. I met a really pretty gal who was wanting to get a little drunk, so we both did just that. Later we ended up in my Chevy Van. Good night, good memories. I just love living free.

Trouble is, most of these guys living in their vans do like to get out and about during good weather and explore... in fact, a lot of them do this so they can travel and see places on the cheap. Now, if you really wanna find someone to send to Mars who can handle being in the same confines day in and day out, just ask around if anyone's got an adult son living in their basement. I knew this one kid I graduated with who was still in his mom's basement a decade later pissing in bottles. I spent a whole winter in Calgary in a Dodge Caravan with just warm clothes and a couple of sleeping bags and foam mattress . Lowest temperature was -33C. The dry air of the prairies make the sleeping bags more effective. I've done the same on the BC coast but the damp makes 5C feel like 0C and 0C feel like -20C. I don't like to overcomplicate minivan living with too much modification. I make a kind of tent out of a tarp in the van for privacy and collapse it when I got to work, so no one at work thinks I live in my vehicle. I've never had any problem and my bank balance now great. I've spent four Winters like that

But how do people do bathroom things like shower, brush teeth and use a toilet.

@@ccasey1904 They use a gym or truck stop for bathing and a male can pee in a jug with a cap.If it's the other 💩and you're not at the gym or t.stop then you can go to a gas station or fast food place ect... 👍✌️
