An old cowboy I knew made a ‘sled’ for a hay bale (not much bigger than your backpack) from a piece of a canvas sign that was coated with plastic sign paint that we used to slide the bales over the snow. He fastened binder twine to a couple of spots on the sides so we could tie the bale on and the rope that was in the long pockets on each side that had been used to hang the sign made perfect ropes to pull it with. I still occasionally use it now. Works well and Rocco could even ride on something like that, also folds up easily to go in your pack.

My diesel heater draws air from outside to heat , best air dryer ever. I can hang wet rain gear to dry (unlike before I had mildew issues). This is how clothes dryers work (no recirculating).
@forestyforest6 минут бұрын
I have considered doing this, but make it possible to switch between inside and outside for intake. I tested once long ago in the minivan at -30, the air was barely being heated at this temperature and fuel efficiency was lost. The roof vent method works pretty good, with only a cost of .5 amp.

I just wanted to say thank you for putting the idea of a woodstove in my head, I installed one this year in my chevy Express. There are so many benefits alot more than just the heat aspect, waking up with no moisture on the windows is a game changer, burning the odd bit of garbage, cooking and just keeping everything dry. What a game changer !

Another good adventure, Simon. Thanks for taking us along. A note of caution, if that was a clearcut you were skiing through, watch those stumps and sticks carefully, especially with low snow depth. Trying hard to remember what your life was like before Rocco...such a wonderful companion, old enough to 'chill out' when needed now, and you are pretty much a predestined match. Love the snow scenes. Many times in Kansas, it gets accompanied by wind chills that bore through layers. Now and then, I am fortunate to get out early, be the first vehicle down a county dirt road and get to experience the wonder of it all! And sometimes, it's just a cold snowy day without the pesky wind freezing me out!

You could easily exchange the brushed motor for a brushless one with ball bearings,,you get the same size motor then you get the appropriate speed controller for it ,and you can have it installed on a potentiometer to adjust fan speed, and badaboooom. You got a forever silent fan which cost less energy to use and which the maintenance can be done on the bearing.priceless !!

Glad that your second hot tent overnight worked out so much better! Have you considered carrying an extra tarp to act as a floor in the tent? Maybe do the same if you decide to go ahead and sew your own tent in the future? Also that chimney stack opening in the tent. I am not a fan of how close it is to your center pole. Maybe add another stack opening in a different location?

Well done. If you were in the Yukon or Alaska 100 years ago....you'd been a Sourdough. Except probably tougher. 👍 Look up/read the story about the sourdoughs that were the first to climb Denali. They carried canvas tents and wood stoves way up the mountain. Then made trips all the way down/up the Muldrow Glacier to haul wood. They baked bread. And...the whole purpose of their climb was to plant a tall spruce flag pole on the summit. Crazy, tough and fun.
