Ur an impressive guy. I was so skeptical with so many rich guy van life videos out there. I would enjoy a video with the tools you carry. I was impressed to see you replace your wheel baring in a video you made I watched recently. I think seeing how a guy with minimal tools does common repairs on veichels could connect you to a whole new audience. I have lived in the same location for a long time and am intimidated by repairs like this and cars but would be willing to take it on. Could be a huge market for people with limited money but willingness to try. You have really grown on me. I'm a Canadian and know about real cold days. So much respect bro

Preventative maintenance is ALWAYS worth it. My thoughts while watching were if my life was relying on this in those extreme temps, I would have a spare unit so I could swap out the whole unit. I know, you don't have room for a second heater, but you never know what else might go wrong and take time to get parts.
@forestyforest5 жыл бұрын
Yeah and they're only like $200, there's no reason not to have a spare! But they seem pretty simple, should last a while.
@msvictoria81645 жыл бұрын
Since watching your videos ,the issue that comes to my mind is what would happen if the heater broke in a remote place with the your climate. I thought if I were in that situation I would plug in the crock pot and take the lid off and turn up high as it doesn't deplete so much of your battery. I'm following others and supporting you keeping the crock pot.

Heat wrapping the intake pipe to the exhaust will pre-heat the air, it’ll work the same way a carbureted car uses the exhaust to heat the intake air in cold weather. Very important however, make sure your fresh air intake is far away from your exhaust. A foot or two isn’t enough, the residual CO2 from the exhaust can easily get sucked into the intake and can slowly poison you. If you can wrap two foot of tubing that’ll be plenty to pre-heat the incoming air and give yourself at least 3 feet of gap between the ends of the intake and exhaust pipes.
@NathanielHatley5 жыл бұрын
To my understanding that intake is only being used for the combustion of the diesel fuel, the unit is sealed. The air for the van is just blown past the exterior of the unit and heated that way.
@JosephOlson-ld2td5 жыл бұрын
Wrong, that is combustion intake and exhaust > heat exchanger recirculated cabin air > best recovery is concentric, like water heaters use
@jannepo5 жыл бұрын
At -30C below there is almost no humidity in the air, therefore the frost problem you encountered is caused by the exhaust being too close the intake. Exhaust contains water. When you burn 1 liter of kerosene, you create 1,1 liters of water or 1800 liters of water vapour. Plenty enough to create a freezing problem to intake if there is no wind.
@rob00brown4 жыл бұрын
Cold air is more dense and contains more O2 for combustion.
