In backtesting, the losses last a few seconds. In real life, they last DAYS. My discipline from diet & exercise helped me through my losing streaks in testing, but only just. I'm in the middle of one early on trading real money, and I'm easing myself with this video!!

This is a video I love revisiting. When you suffer a couple of losses you begin questioning the effectiveness of your system. You feel like taking a break only to find out you missed a big move on a particular pair which would have cancelled out all of your recent losses. I have learned to stick with the system no matter what. Due to that I benefited from a 7x ATR move that I rode. It is a great feeling. Money management and discipline to stick to your trading rules are the keys to success.

It's all about probabilities. If there's a non-zero probability of loss, there are going to be losses. It's inevitable. But if you have a proven system, losses don't matter. It's all about the long game. Losses are just a small dent in an upwards-sloping equity curve. A large source of the fear of losing is the way we think of money in our account. Thinking about it in terms of its utility or purchasing power is the worst thing you can do. You lost $200 dollars - could have bought a lot of shit with that. But no. Money is a means to an end. That money you lost on a trade served a greater purpose.

Great initiative! Each coin toss is an independent event from every other coin toss, assuming a "fair coin". So streaks are random, either way. There are many papers written about coin toss experiments and are super interesting! One guy was in jail and did a coin toss 50,000 times. Commitment and spare time hehe! Mean Value Theorem or "Expected Value" theorem is good here (and in trading!). Go get 'em tiger!

Figure I should add my experience doing this same coin flip exercise, now 3 different times over the course of a few days. Each separate exercise of coin flips was 100 flips, heads win, tails lose. When I did this, I was very conscious of how I may have felt had this been real trades with real money. The first time I did this, I experienced a losing streak just 53 flips in, losing 7 times in a row. My win/loss ratio up to this streak was 53.7%, even with the 4 win streak leading up to it. That means that if I was sitting there paying attention to my win/loss ratio leading up to that small win streak, I would be staring at that losing streak and watching that 53.7% dwindle down to 47.5%. I can only imagine the roller coaster of emotions that would be happening. At that point, I would be 61 flips in. This might lead me to believe my strategy just doesn't work, and I should adjust it. But then, with just 9 more flips, I start on a winning streak and win heads 9 times in a row. I'm so glad this happened because, what if after that losing streak, I had gone and completely changed up my strategy to an ultimately worse strategy. I might have thought that I had figured it all out. I can imagine myself feeling nearly unstoppable after a 9 win streak, thinking I should double down on everything. Well, if I had started on a new strategy and was paying attention to that strategy's new win rate, noticing myself climbing up past a 64% win rate, I might naively think I was a genius and figured out the winning strategy and then proceed to risk more than I am comfortable with to grow my account faster. This group of coinflips ended up with a 54% success rate, while my next two attempts were both 48%, bringing my total win rate for all 300 coin flips to an exact 50%. I thought this was a fascinating and useful exercise, and I'm so grateful I did it before risking real money. I think of this quite a bit since doing it. What if that losing streak was the first 7 trades, but ultimately the strategy being implemented was the winning strategy?

Philip Taylor If it makes you feel better we’ve all done it thankfully i caught onto it myself. This is possibly the only place S/R lines come in handy: Place a line where your entry is, and press F12 to expose candles one by one, when your exit indicator tells you to exit you exit, then scroll further AFTER writing your exit, seeing if it was the right decision, works great for me! Also taught me to really wait for candle close before exiting a trade/wait for it to hit stoploss

Many words of wisdom. I blew up a few accounts when I started out by trying not to lose. Became profitable once I realised and accepted that I needed to learn to lose before I could win. Sounds nonsensical, I know but it is a fact. Another gem was learning that successful trading was not about being right.........It's about doing the right thing by sticking with your trade plan and your strategy. You will have losses and you have to accept them.

Backtetsing is the fun part for me, I like getting technical in excel and using functions to make it easier. And love when an indicator I’m using is working, and even better when I tweak it and it goes miles further. Blood, sweat and tears in back testing so when you’re doing it live, the fruits are that much sweeter. And I love finding a loss, because then I look for indicators that would have never allowed me to take that loss. Less losses = more wins = more money

Here I am having my morning @ SBucks coffee in beautiful Southern FL, I was thinking that even with the several memorable losses and recoveries I’ve had in Forex trading, I wouldn’t trade the experience for any ‘regular job’ ever again. And, as I watch all the sheep hurrying to grab their coffee and go to their employment of servitude, I can’t help but think how forex has given me freedom of body and mind. The time I got back has allowed me to grow and be more creative and efficient in all aspects of my life. So when Patrick asks which video helps the most, I have to say ALL. I replay all the videos repeatedly like a classic song. The videos are a reference that will continue to guide you as you earn back your time, freedom and your expand your mind. The smartest thing I did as I demo trade was to delete the MT4 app on my phone. The Astronaut dreamer who loves to use heroine was also an impactful comparison, definitely appreciate you saying things that many are afraid to say. The dirty dozen made me realize that many indicators were designed for supply and demand markets, and older doesn't mean better. I realized I had to choose either forex or stocks, and I always felt forex was recession proof so hearing you confidently say that is indeed recession proof helped me mentally fully transition away from stocks (for now) Honestly I can't even narrow it down to just one, I don't feel I like I would give up the information on any of the videos, especially not for a marshmallow, not even two marshmallows.
