I've been wanting a Z car for years. Like at least 35 years. I will have one some day. this is a great score. I'd call this a survivor especially if that's original paint. Please don't hack it up. Either keep it stock or sell to someone who will. LS, 350, 302 or whatever powered things are cool, but this one deserves to live again as intended.

72dodge340 you just know he's going to hack it up, he's young. First thing they do is remove the bumpers "to reduce weight" and then either turbocharge it or put a v8 in. I would be very shocked he kept this car original.

Stock stock and more stock... You have a gem in your hands that's much more interesting in it's current state, than any souped up, over powered, re-engineered just because we can wanna be hot rod. There's a joy to be had with a car of this vintage. It's look, style and presence make it viable as a daily driver, and the comments you'll get from people as you drive by will most definitely put a smile on your face, as they'll probably be smiling with you. Man, you found a gem. As an owner of an LS swapped Z car, please leave this thing as-is. If nothing else, sell it for a profit and move on to another project more deserving of being modified. Just cleaned up, this thing would bring a decent amount auctioned on Bring A Trailer. Even though the 2+2 is kind of the red headed step child of the Z market.

Like everybody else in the comments I agree with keeping it stock. Maybe just swapping the bumpers for the non-American ones. Because those look kinda ugly. Also a polish, some brakes, a rebuilding carburetor kit and new tyres are needed. Fix it up and bring him to the inspection. Also an compression test would be interesting. I bought a 260z for my son from a older gentleman in N Kansas City when I lived there in 1999. A tree branch had fallen on it and mashed the top of the drivers side fender, it was repairable. It had been raced, had a 280z motor with 3 side draft Weber carbs, headers with nice 3" exhaust. The fellow told me when he bought it it was so low with a custom front he could push beer cans around. He had it raised to stock height to be more streetable. It was a beast. Son ended up trading it straight across for a newer Mitsubishi Eclipse.

I had a hatchback Datsun from the '60s I think it was. My wife and I bought it as our first car and we paid $1800 off in two years of payments. My Dad had to cosign for the loan. But that car went everywhere. We lived in Eureka, CA, right on the Pacific Ocean. You can drive in any direction but West and it's beautiful. Redwoods above and below us, trees everywhere, waterfalls, lakes. We took that Datsun into 9,000 feet mountains and it never missed a beat. Dirt, gravel and all kinds of roads. I think we put 200,000 miles on it and it was still driving great. We sold it to my wife's brother when we started having kids. He parked it on a steep hill and didn't pull up the emergency brake. It popped out of gear, rolled down the hill and fell right into the Pacific Ocean. I bet you if you hauled that car out of the ocean and put a new battery in it it'd start right up.

The older Z-cars are a beautiful classic. The L-series engines are simple enough, capable of reasonably good power without major modifications, and can handle very well. Much better that American muscle cars of the same era. You've got an incredible score with this one, because their biggest problem is rust. They were pretty bad for it.

Definitely no regrets as the only cars that would beat me were a Volkswagen golf vr6 beefed up and a Volkswagen corrado supercharged 4 cylinder. Stock to modified formula trans ams were no sweat or mustangs of the same level. Now a modern corvette of the early 2000`s or Pontiac firehawk.. Those beat me as they pulled away after 2nd gear, otherwise close first 200 yards LMAO. All I did was a full top to bottom tune up. It was on.. Best days of my life, early 20s😂. ThunderHead289, so can '80s Hondas if you have enough room; someone I know used a short Honda filter when he 302-swapped his then-new '83 Datsun 4x4.

I noticed when they were trying to start it they kept pumping the gas...don't do that, SU carbs have no accelerator pump... SOo, you're just flapping the throttle....also, those are not the originals, they're from a 240z, pre 73 for sure (260's has flat top style SUs).....oh and another note....it's a '75, prolly built in the first couple months of '75 model year as the first couple months of '75 had fat bumpers of a 280z due to fuel injected engines not being available...'74 260z's would have had a narrow bumper.... But they did so a good job getting it going, they're usually pretty easy... The big issue might be wiring as the mice love eating the wire insulation... I've worked on several that had extensive damage....

These things used to be everywhere when I was a kid in the 70s. Hardly see them today. Nice to see one in such good shape.

What a young lookin' Kevin. Must have been just after his military service. Awesome car a family friend had one in the early '70's.

Other than the rat crap, that thing is too nice. No rust, and engine works to some extent, so like everyone else is saying - just do a restoration.

You guys really need some good mics, can barely hear you sometimes. But this thing is indeed too good to be hacked up, I imagine it would be better to fix it up, sell it and find one more suited for the swap.
