Haha Of course he would invade a town named La Paz. It means Peace, or The Peace. Walker seems a lot like some hawkish Americans Ive known in my life.

I'm a history TA teaching a course on early US history and I'm going to show my class this video. Great job! You tackled the subject with more detail and substance than anyone else I've seen on KZbin.

Congratulations on this video. Did you know that as a result of the Second Battle of Rivas on April 11, 1856, there are 750 American filibusters buried, in a secret place on the outskirts of the city of Rivas, along with at least 900 Costa Rican soldiers, the total of the casualties of this battle. This location, which is secret or unknown, keeps the largest amount of American casualties outside its territory. We would love a narrative from you regarding the strategy of how this battle, the fiercest of the Central American conflict, was carried out.

I have actually considered that very idea. Rivas in a good battle and I think it would make a good addition to the channel. What a find it would be to unearth those graves.

Great video. Quick note: on minute 5 you state that he invaded La Paz, Mexico. You should make the distinction that La Paz is in Baja California because it inadvertantly sounds your saying it's in Sonora which i don't believe you are. Keep up the good content. Oh and a video tying this to the Crabb "massacre" would be a nice addition.

Incredible that those central American republics could field so few men. Nowadays they have several million people, with Guatemala alone having 16 million, and yet I feel the image of them today is the same one that was popularized by the filibusters up to the early XXth century, before their populations sky rocketed and were able to become "real" countries.

You realize that the democrats from those days are the Republicans of today right? Of course you don't. Look it up. The democratic party of the 1800s completely changed their views. The old views are the modern day Republican views.

Dear youtuber, in the synthesis you are trying to make of William Walker, you miss the essence of the truth of the facts, I suggest you investigate the antithesis of William Walker, what some call his "Nemesis" and when you find it, you will see how deep it is. It was the walk in the life of Mr. Walker, how the history of the Central American Peoples changed, and as, fighting against the slavery and expansionist ideals of a sick Nation, Costa Rica, forged his nationality and the most glorious stage of his childhood as a People, when he fought for his independence and for the freedom of Central America. Investigate, search and you will find.

I was kinda feeling the same way. At least the portion of the video had a critique of Walker. Some more analysis of the imperialist relationship between the US and it’s neighbors would have been interesting. At least now I am more interested in learning more about this period of Central American history. I know basically nothing specific about post-independence Latin America.
@ForgottenBattles3 жыл бұрын
@@samiamrg7 I kept this one a bit more biographical about Walker himself. In my readings I found that the filibusterers really intensified the imperialist nature of the Americans during this period. I found it interesting that the American government did not sanction their activities but didn't really stop them either.
