Fun fact: these are pretty popular in Canada not only due to price, but because it's a 5.56 NATO rifle that isn't an AR-15 platform. AR-15 platform guns are restricted by default, but this gun is non-restricted.

We have gen 3 now in Canada, about $1199 CDN. It's quite popular up here, of course nothing compare to AR 15. But it's quite compact that's for sure. We can also use pistol mag and mag couplar that allow us to have 20 rounds total (have to switch at 10 round)

@@oliveoil2632 For some reason, T97 is not banned yet under the OIC back in 2020. The stock folding sight is nothing to write home about, but you just add better aftermarket one, or a scope, or a red dot. I assume in the States, if the mags are not pinned, they also accept 30 rounds or even 40 rounds pmags. The main thing is the reliability and compactness (29.8 inch), about 8.6 lbs. If you clean it, it will actually last a long time. Because it's heavy, you barely felt the recoil, and trigger isn't that bad imo. The 2 downsides are that people complain some fit and finish aren't great, but I find them acceptable, and they meet the casing so far away and mangle it in the process so you can't reload them.

Sounds like considering the price, China may have done a really good job. How good does a rifle really have to be. Infantry does 90% of the dying and artillery does 90% of the killing. And it certainly looks very compact, about as compact as I think I have seen. Seems really good for general infantry use.

They are decent rifles. I never had mine fail to feed or eject, they are reliable and for the price you really can't expect or ask for much more. The sights are atrocious like he said and the trigger is terrible without much of an option to fix that. Besides that they are good rifles. The SA80 latest version (v2 and v3) is a damn good rifle and LIGHT years better than this cheap garbage. If you pick one up and use it, it is way better than many portray, Very little recoil, super easy to acquire the target, and the bullpup format makes it easy to handle in tight spaces. The original SA80 v1 was a GOOD design let down by some stupid engineering detail oversights (like poor firing pin tip robustness) - basically it didn't go through a proper proofing stage to iron those stupid errors out - and it took decades before H&K finally did that.

The brass ejecting can not be re-used for re-loading as the brass hits the ejection port housing and put a big old dent into the brass. You should mention this gun is (somewhat) popular in Canada because of the current gun laws. Not to get into politics but to make is simple in Canada AR and AK variants (among many others in a long list) are subject to tighter regulations requiring registration and restricting use to certified ranges. Ergo weapons like this that are not on the list of doom, and can be classified as "non-restricted", do not need paperwork to own, buy or sell and can be used for hunting and back country shooting (yea we can't hunt with ARs here). Other good examples of this is the SKS, Tavors and the VZ58, which are also non-restricted and very popular here... we like having "for fun guns" too in Soviet Canuckistan haha. I'm sure you know but I think it's important to mention as to understand why the gun gained some traction here where as in the USA there are more alternatives in AR and AK platforms.

Having owned the FTU version, the gun is quite solid and the metal components are quite strong. Despite the squishy trigger, it has good accuracy. I actually find the trigger easier on my finger than my stock Tavor. the biggest issue with this gun is that it is hard on brass and if you can find it afterwards it all has a big dent in it. So not good for reloading. It's brass flinging is like a close in defense weapon and similar to the AGB42b

Norinco really did their export version dirty. It's one of the worst, most rattly rechambers I've ever laid my hands on. I'm not saying the domestic version is great, but it seems like Norinco really doesn't care about their export market. I guess they're making money, so they don't see any reason to fix it. As for the actual service rifle: has a little more kick. The cartridge, in my opinion, has superior performance compared to 5.56 NATO. Of course, depends on who makes it and what variant it is. The ergonomics are the same old suck. At least it's not an L85A1.

I could do more materials delivery if I had a 60 round banana mag. Problem is not having a diesel engine; tow capacity's an issue. Mainly due to the mass shooting happen in 1989, where they introduced magazine limit afterward for 5 round rifle centerfire and 10 round handgun magazine. The problem with firearm is that, THERE will always be death from firearm, and firearm make it easier with multiple victims. That doesn't change, the only solace is that normal people don't go around shooting other people, and those that did, they already got taken care of. The Toronto van attack in Canada is an example that vehicle can be used as one too, that's why they have lots of those steel pylons now to prevent it, but it's a rare occurrence. Vice versa, if you take away the gang violence, homicide cause by firearm is pretty rare, most firearm death comes from suicide.

@@pepebeezon772 most of the Canadians don't have PAL, they don't even know about the 5 round limits for centerfire rifles and 10 rounds for handgun. Many Canadians don't event know they can own firearms. That itself is an issue, since the government can just propose silly bans and propose to voters like the government is doing something. The main difference is the firearm culture in Canada and the States, people have to take course in order to apply for firearm licence where basic storage law, handling of firearm, and firearm safety is drilled into you (at least when you do the course) then you have to do a sort of background check to get it. This itself eliminate most of the people who shouldn't have firearm in the first place. Though we don't born with the right to get one, but we get it like a driving licence (to some degree). Can you remove the pin? Sure, can you shoot it sure, you just have to do it very discreetly on some crown land so no one know any better. But most of firearm owners are responsible, and they are trying to follow the laws properly so we wouldn't get hit by weird ones. We don't have that many mass shooting in Canada, it's not perfect, but it's something. Would it work if we have American style of firearm culture? Probably not, since most Canadians are neutral and anti gun, and when it comes to democracy, if majority want to elect a government that restrict them or ban them, there isn't much that we can do.

I enjoy fine modern guns, I own Swiss made PE90 rifles (not the US made imitations) , also the newer Swiss B&T APC family of semi auto rifles, as well as decent ARs (LMT MRP, KAC), VZ58s. And bullpups like Israeli IWI. All that being said, I have handled and fired the Canucks T97 before and hit well at 300 yards. I doubt the imaginary opponent down range will be any less dead when shot at by this gun compared with my more refined/expensive guns, despite all the comments here from gun connoisseurs. However, I must say the Canucks version is a butchered job, the original military QBZ version with its original calibre and AK style mags is a much better gun, and the -1 improved version is even better. Additionally, the Canadian civilian gun crowd has some genuinely great after market enhancements for this gun. Both the replacement upper rail and replacement lower hand guard are big steps up.

It's not a good Rifle if you have to rebuild it straight out of the box. Not picking on Canadians Gun guys . I've seen shit guns down here in the US but i don't buy them to just practice my gunsmith skills. Just buy a better Rifle. I've seen Machine guns Shake and rattle less. And that's not just that 30 round five shot magazine rattles you hear.

7:01 Damn, and I thought my Mini-14 was "good" at flinging brass a long ways off...I think that thing is throwing them about twice as far as mine was *before* I put a recoil buffer in it.

Magazine capacity restrictions are so dumb, even the UK doesn't have any magazine capacity restrictions.

Because that's not even necesarry in the UK. After all, what use is a 30 round magazine when you're only allowed to own bolt-action rifles?

Maybe it's just the mic being so close but it sounds like a hollowed out plastic childs play gun. They should call it Nerf QBZ/Type 97 NSR instead.
