Thanks for these videos. I've not long acquired a not running 2006 model. I have found what I'm sure is the problem already, but am looking at doing a resto on the bike as it's not in the best shape and you're videos are fantastic in helping to see how to do things and what can be done. Much appreciated.

Thank you. Clear, well explained vid on your Suzuki GS500 fork removal and seal replacement. I have a GS500F (2008) and you have given me the confidence to replace my seals myself. Thanks for making my life easier! Be well.

Hi, Glad you are enjoying the series. I love unassuming bikes as they are so much nicer to work on and restore. I have done a lot on this bike now. Need to upload the videos I have for it. It is nearly restored now, and looks amazing. Many thanks for your comments.

awesome video dude! no new part after part 2, but just add oil, then spring in and fasten the bolt?
@RestorationBiker
@RestorationBiker 8 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for the comments. Yes sorry I forgot to add the last bit, but yes you are right it is add the oil, spring and then top bolt. The only thing you have to remember is make sure that you add the same amount of oil to each leg. 377ml in each leg. You can chose what weight oil to have. I normally use STP

I see a lot of people struggling to get the bottom hex bolt out and they use a vice grip to hold one end while they work on it. Are you unusually strong to be able to do it without something holding the fork?
@RestorationBiker
@RestorationBiker 7 ай бұрын
Hi, The secret there is (I should have put it in the video) Put the fork back in the yokes and tighten it up as if you are re-fitting it. You can then undo the bolt with ease.

Hi, just subscribed ! Looking forward to more videos on the GS, I have a 2006 one, in a bit better condition, but still needs some love and care that it never got. Looking to restore it as much as I can, but with this being my first bike and having no mechanical experience, the thought of doing anything myself is scary . Engine block looks almost the same, shock area is very dirty, grimey, looking to get into there, although I have no idea where to start, and minimal tools, like some allen keys and spanners. To get an idea, it doesn't even have a center stand anymore, because it broke while getting the bike off of it, because of all the rust and grime and dirt. Weight reduction there, haha ! Really interested on how you get to the shock and how you clean it, how you pull it out and also the swing arm, both of which are very rusty and eaten by grime. Also looking at how you would clean the engine block itself, especially those thin metal bits around the cilinders. Looking forward to the next one ! Ride safe ! Adrian

PS: just a thought, do you happen to live in South East London ? I'd love to be neighbours with you, so that I can get indications on how to fix my bike hands on while someone experienced watches :D otherwise keep up the great job with the videos, very very helpful for a new rider who wants to do work themselves on the bike !

Hi, No I live a long way from London unfortunately. Your bike sounds like the sort of machines I like to get involved in though. I have done a few more videos of the GS, just need some time to get them all together and edit them. Glad you are enjoying the videos. The bike is almost finished now and it looks almost new. I will strive to get a few more out for you. The best way to learn is to do it. You can keep a log by taking as many pics as possible whilst you are stripping it. That way you have a reference when you come to re-build it.

Anyone know what size that Allen is?
@RestorationBiker
@RestorationBiker 2 ай бұрын
Hi, I can't remember what size the allen bolt was. I use a set of allen keys that include metric and imperial sizes, so I always chose the best fitting key.
