OMG, I saw Q to d6. First time after watching dozens upon dozens of games. I am not a player other than to say I know how the pieces move and some of the standard openings. Beyond that, an intermediate played would trounce me in a matter of minutes. But I love watching these and I’m so happy to finally see the right move. 🙋‍♂️👍

At 1:22, why isn't Be7 just strictly better than Bd6? Didn't Ponomariov just give his opponent a free move for no reason? How was this played by someone else as well? They give their opponent a free move to tempt him into a line that is the best line anyway? I don't get it.

Yeah, i've seen it. I mean a possible backrank weakness was obvious, the possible backrank infiltration point on d8 for that possible mating attack was obvious and the interference of the defense of the rook and the other infiltration point on d6 was obvious. Since the knight on c6 was covering d8, i decided it to be the key defender, which needed to be removed first. After evaluating, that the e5 knight would have been superior to the a6 bishop in the sense of sacrife possibilities in general, thanks to the interference and the f7 coverage (which lets the backrank mating threat become real), it was just the question which piece would need to kamikaze the key defender (c6 knight). The queen obviously not. The question was, do i have time for the infiltration Qd6 now or should i sacrifice the rook immediately? (Move-Order question) Also, the bishop on a6 was a possible defensive ressource in any of my calculations, as it either closes off the a file to not allow the rook infiltration on a2 or possibly countering Qf7+ and Qd1+ checks, so i evaluated, that the king would be safe enough down there for the attack. Since the rook infiltration was a major threat as it would give black too much counterplay, i ultimately decided, the escape route for the king needed to be e2-f3 (possibly followed by the Be2 parry) rather than to try to defend the possibly weak rook on c1. This reasoning was for me enough to decide on Qd6 first, although i must admit, that this wasn't calculated completely, as i didn't even considered taking the rook with the queen nor have i evaluated whether the c7 rook would have been possibly poisoned.

Philippine women's chess #suggestion - WGM Janelle Frayna, the female Wesley So, upset Georgian GM (really GM not just WGM) Bela Khotenashvili at the 2022 world blitz. There's a 12-move UNDERPROMOTION puzzle here. [Variant "From Position"] [FEN "6k1/6b1/1p1P3p/6pP/3pPpP1/p2NqP2/6K1/5Q2"] 1. Qd1 a2 2. Qb3+ Kf8 3. d7 Qe2+ 4. Nf2 Ke7 5. Qd5 Kd8 6. Qf7 Bf6 7. Qe8+ Kc7 8. Qc8+ Kd6 9. e5+ Qxe5 10. d8=R+ Bxd8 11. Qxd8+ Kc6 12. Qa8+ Kd7 For some reason none of the Philippine channels even cover this game. LOL. But Janelle did cover the game where e drew against Nemo, so maybe Janelle will cover this game later on. P.S. Please help get Wesley So on Lex Fridman's podcast. See xcdhgq
