2:20 I believe that goofy threading does two things: 1. It prevents the careless or less perceptive firearm assembler from slapping on a .30 muzzle device and having a very bad first shot; and 2. it encourages sales of Faxon's 3-port muzzle brake, or Q's (8.6 BO developer who has partnered with Faxon on this project) Cherry Bomb muzzle device. So, safety and profit, I guess.

My 20 inch 6.5 Grendel AR is sub moa with Hornady Black eld-m. Fort Scott TUI, not so great. I’m impressed how it did in your rig, of course being WTW behind the trigger is key to its success. Good review.

PSA now sells their house brand (AAC) 6.5 Grendel 123gr at .70 - .75 per round depending on bullet type (OTM, black tip, and FMJ). They look like Hornady projectiles to me. Oh, and they use BRASS cases, NOT steel, so you can still get your money's worth with reloads. Just trying to help out my fellow Grendel guys.

Willing to bet the thread pitch is to prevent some dummy threading/attaching an undersized can, i.e. 30 cal, and hurting themselves/bystanders. We've seen so many .300 blk/ .223 mix-ups, only a matter of time before it would happen.

Just finished building my AR 8.6 Blk. 12 inch faxon, Had to get an SLR adjustable gas block to fit suppressor. First 8 rounds out of it are great. suppressor makes it wonderful, a little heavy but a short package. Running a SiCo 36M with ASR mount. I was looking at buying dedicated can 338 specific but will hold off and wait to see if they have a BOGO sale. Scope or Red dot with magnifier is my next problem.

The 8.6 BO caught my eye when it first appeared, I was interested in a big bore to run dedicated subsonic suppressed for hunting applications as I have 40 acres of property that is dense and next to a neighborhood. We as hunters get enough bad publicity so the noise levels will be down to not disturb anyone and hearing safe as a bonus. Currently running a 350L and 450BM and may add a 8.6BO to the collection as time goes on. Main benefits of the 350 and 450 is the availability of ammo that you can find at any shop.

I have a similar situation . I use a suppressed 45/70 and Hornady 410 gr sub x rounds .Push em right over 1000fps. Stand I use with that setup has about 70 yard max for a clear shot. Haven’t taken a white tail with it at much more than 40 or 50 yards , but it works just fine. Not ideal expansion ,but all 3 didn’t go more than a few yards. I’d say 50-60% of expansion potential on the 2 bullets I found .

@@kevmoful Using the SubX 395gr rounds myself on the 450BM, On the 350L I am using a different brand totally blanking out on them at the moment. Just like you my shots are so limited and doubt I could find a place on the 40 acres with a 100 yards clear shot. Love to bow hunt there, feel guilty during muzzle loading season when that cannon fires off. Just trying to really keep the noise down to avoid complaints and risk losing the opportunity to hunt there.

You should do a video that explains the flight path of the 8.6. Then set up targets and hit different yardages like a sniper. 25 yard increments or something. Not sure what that rifle/round are capable of doing so you could do larger increments. 9 hole reviews does something similar but they haven't done 8.6 I don't believe. Nice looking setup for sure.

The goofy threading alone just turned me off from that rifle, there's plenty of standard thread pitches for .338 so if somebody in engineering or logistics doesn't know what they're doing, who else is goofing up??
@matthasaname

That's a valid concern, no doubt. My thinking, though, is that Faxon (being one of only a few players in the 8.6BO game at the moment) is flooding the market with their barrels now while the 8.6BO hype is at its peak. So later, they can come out with their own line of thread adapters that go from goofy to standard. When that day comes, the price will be bonkers. I could totally be wrong, but that's just the only reason I could think of to go goofy on a totally new line of barrels.

I built one of these about 6 months ago and what I found is the the 18x1.5 was a pretty standard threading for .338. But most muzzle devices up to that point were designed for 338 Lapua and not really what I wanted for that build. But now there are a few manufacturers making them specifically for 8.6. It was actually the last piece of the build.
