Personally I like the fact that she didn’t kill the whole family. It’s more human that way I think. Like let’s get real, most people do not actually want to kill others and yes it would be in self defence in graces point but i think her not killing the whole family makes her more human because she’s not some person with survivalist training she’s just like us forced to go through this and wants it to be over without being forced to murder herself. Idk I kinda like it it’s a bit of a new spin on it (instead of her going all revenge on the whole family) and she is still shown to be a strong female protagonist even without going all killing crazy. Dunno about everyone else but that’s just how I felt bout it

Here's my ending explained. The previous couples died because they refused to play the game. Therefore, Grace wouldn't die after the game because she played the game. Since they all played the game, there's only one rule. If the seekers win, the hider dies, and the seekers die if the hider wins. Alex is technically the one belong to both the hider and seekers and will follow the destiny of the side he has chosen. Even though he did help both the hider and the seekers, he chose to be on Grace's side at the very end. However, Grace, the winner of the game, refused him from her side by getting divorced. It technically is giving him back to his previous family and Alex followed his family members' destiny. Grace was free to go since she never or not anymore belong to the family that made the deal with the devil. Overall, this is a very good movie. It was exciting and thrilling. Of course, we knew she wasn't going to die anytime before the very end, but what's trilling is what she did and what she went through to survive this far. This is a pretty fun movie to watch. The actress impressed me since The Babysitter and I hope she makes more of Comedy Thriller/Horror.
@rivakhansa87565 жыл бұрын
"Even though he did help both the hider and the seekers, he chose to be on Grace's side at the very end" was he really on her side at the end? he was the one who stabbed her at the end, he's completely chose his family at the end and not her?

Alex turned on her because he asked “you will leave me right?” and he probably figured it’s not worth endangering his family and himself if she will leave him. It also has the “if I can’t have you no one can.” There is always hint throughout the movie that his love for her is out of selfishness and neediness. He proposed to her because she would’ve left him if he didn’t propose. He loved her because she makes him feel like he’s good, etc. Also, I don’t think she didn’t blow up in the end because she said she wanted a divorce. I think it is simply because she survived to dawn (rendering the rest of the family losers). Since she picked the card that dictates they play hide and seek, either the she dies or the family dies.
@alexas-kitchen5 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with this. My interpretation of why she didn't die was related to what Alex said at the beginning. It was something along the lines of - to his family, playing the game was more important than the wedding itself. Therefore, she wasn't officially a member of the family until the game was played.
@juanjaramillo93904 жыл бұрын
I’m completely on your same page
@cheshirewitch75604 жыл бұрын
She didn't die, because she won. For the family to win, she had to die, and they would live. For her to win, she merely had to survive until dawn, and the family would then die. Because it was family vs bride, and bride won, she won the prize, which was life. Nothing to do with the divorce line, that was merely for comedic effect. She just won the game, plain and simple. May have been a pact with a demon, but even evil things have rules to follow (and seeing as how the rules were always followed or consequences happened if they weren't, it's a given it would let her go since she survived until dawn).

I disagree with grace's breakdown. She wasn't in the right state of mind, she's in shock and at that moment, Alex was her only hope, so she nodded to what he said and they seperated. That's a normal reaction and I really liked that moment because it felt realistic on Grace's part. It was as she was walking away that she started to regain balance and determination. And it would be stupid for someone without a fighting background to take on an entire family and hunt them down. She doesn't know they are incompetant and every women's self-defense class will tell you to run when you can and disable if needed. So for the ending here’s my best take: Grace wins the game at the end by surviving, so the family is now the losers. Since the game involves killing the loser, la bail showed up and claimed the losers. So he started by taking the new additions first then moving onto the blood family, leaving the oldest, the father, left alive last. The son was married to Grace (the winner) so he technically won too, but when she divorced him he went back to his family and in turn became part of the losing team. Therefore since he was part of the losers, he instantly died. Now I’m not sure what’s going to happen next, but I would assume that the game is completely over since she won and never made a pact, just an unwilling participant. Hope this makes sense, I’ve seen other theories that are all basically the same, but with small changes here and there, but I believe this is what the writers intended
@crazykat3224 жыл бұрын
The aunt died first, she wasn't a new addition. But otherwise I agreed with your explanation
@chiefbologna57194 жыл бұрын
Miliamer Corales yeah you’re right, but she tried to continue the game even after losing and was punished in order to protect the winner, at least in my POV which this all boils down too, but yeah that was my reasoning, other than that it does go somewhat in an order
@ColdMystery2 жыл бұрын
The husband may not join the game so the game could have had two outcomes that differ a lot from each other. *The first* and kinda intended ending by La Bail which includes the new family member winning leaving him/her with their wife/husband OR *second* as we saw in the movie the winner breaking with the remaining family member shifting them to the losing side. The first ending would have continued to curse while the second one released Grace from the curse while putting her husband at the losing team making him pop too.
@Vandal0922 жыл бұрын
I would disagree, the rest of the family didn’t make the pact but they were bound by it. And then so is Grace because she won, she and her family will always carry the curse/ pact forward.
@chiefbologna57192 жыл бұрын
@@Vandal092 I mean that’s a fair assumption but we don’t have really any information to confirm what would happen. You can argue both ways that him showing up at the end was either him congratulating her for winning and becoming free or him letting her know that she won and the curse/blessing moves to her family tree Definitely an open ended ending in that aspect

Nobody in the family had to kill a new family member for YEARS. It was really just by chance that she got dealt that hide and seek card.

Alex switched on Grace because he knew she wasn’t going to stay with him after all of this. So basically if he continued to “betray” his family and trying to save Grace, he would loose them as well as already loosing her, so he chose to go with his family since he didn’t have her anymore. It's one thing to get details wrong if you are just recounting it to a friend, but not when your entire deal is film reviews and criticism. Another thing in this video he gets wrong is the name Le Bail. It's LE Bail, not EL Bail. He even includes multiple graphics of the game box for Le Bail's Gambit, and still gets it wrong. The characters in this movie say Le Bail's name repeatedly and he still gets it wrong. It's maddening. I legit thought he was doing a bit.

Dude, maybe judge the movie on its own merits and not based on your expectations or the trailer or even comparing it to ‘You’re Next’. This movie has an amazing performance by Samara Weaving as she plays a HUMAN character who’s doing her best in a situation she’s really not comfortable in. She’s not a super badass like Erin because she’s human and doesn’t have a survivalist background. Also, this movie’s screenplay is so tight!! Plot points are got to and covered very well and the wedding is even skipped almost entirely as, as Alex said, the game is ‘more important than the wedding’. It’s a great movie!! Very well directed and designed. Maybe praise the amazing behind the scenes work rather than your expectations. Just food for thought

The ending was explained out of order which I feel changes some things...they capture her, tie her to the table, put on the robes, drink from that weird communal cup, then you find out David poisoned everyone, then he helps her escape and is shot by his wife. Also Alex didn’t have a change of heart; Grace dug her nails into the aunts hands which made her loosen her grip letting Grace lift up some and causing Alex to stab her in the shoulder.

Jonas Adams ...Alex is weak. That’s the point of his character. He protected her, but didn’t tell her everything. He won’t stand up to his family. When pressed to make a decision between his wife and his own life, he chooses to join his family (which he hates) and attempted to kill Grace.

I agree that the trailer gave too much away, but as someone who saw the movie twice, I think FoundFlix kind of missed the point of the movie here (and was misdirected by the marketing). Grace wasn't supposed to be some badass like the main character in You're Next, she was supposed to be more like a wounded animal that was trying to survive. A normal person wouldn't jump from complete nonviolence to suddenly being okay with killing an entire family, even if they're trying to kill you. DeadMeat did a fantastic podcast talking about Grace's characterization and the movie in general. Alex switching sides also wasn't random, as there were hints given throughout the movie that he was flip flopping (bringing her in the first place obviously means he believes in the curse, and there was a conversation where his mother says she doesn't believe that Alex will pick Grace over his family, to which he doesn't respond. Also, when Grace asks why he would even bring her here, he says that if he didn't marry her, he'd lose her, which points out that he's putting his desire and want for her over her own safety) It's also left ambiguous as to if Alex thinks Grace killed Daniel, and he's obviously aware that she killed Becky. He doesn't fully turn on Grace until she confirms that she doesn't want to be with him after this is all over, which is something that a lot of women experience: some men will turn on you and even get violent if you turn them down. Alex also does aim for the heart, but Grace managed to get loose enough to move by scratching one of the hands that's holding her down. Overall, no, it's not perfect. But I think that a lot of the more subtle aspects are really resonating with people, especially women. Grace finally breaking and laughing at the end of the movie as her in laws die one by one is also a theme that was seen in Midsommar, and women were able to relate to that as well. Both of these movies drive their main women to their breaking point and beyond (some call it the feral woman trope, or maybe stepford smiler). This is the first time I've disagreed with FoundFlix, and I think it's partly because of the bad marketing and partly because of how the film hits different to the women who see it.

"Alex randomly has a change of heart" Ummmmm no, his change of heart parallels his actions at the beginning of the movie and is foreshadowed through is constant selfish nature throughout the movie (him not telling Grace about the families ritual because he was afraid she wouldn't want to be with him if she knew coinciding with him changing sides only after realizing she wouldn't be with him if she survived the night) as well as his conversation with Helene where she expresses that he's still the boy who ratted another character out for the benefit of the family.

I swear he literally did not pay attention to the movie. Alex didn't have a change of heart, he was always conflicted by his family from day one. When you're a kid and see what your parents do, you grow up thinking it's okay. Exactly how he explains it to his mother while he's being held hostage. He wanted to be good but truly he cannot because this is his up bringing. He was honestly selfish in the end. Yes he first tired to protect her (but this was due to him not being in the family for many years), then when she tells him she doesn't want to be with him, he becomes fearful that they will die by morning and she rejected him so he withdrawals back to his family. In the end, when his family explodes one by one he literally tries to save himself by asking her once more to take him back, to spare him from the family curse. Hoping maybe if she still loved him that he wouldn't suffer the same fate. When she denies him, he immediately is killed. Alex was and always was, a selfish asshole and just as messed up as the rest of his family. The only one that was actually "nice" was Daniel. Daniel tried to give her many chances to get out, but acted part of the family only when other family members were around. (aka- in the woods. He noticed his father near by and that's when he pistol whipped Grace) he finally had enough and stood between Grace and his own wife.

I didn’t even make it two minutes into this review. I’m so sick of pretentious movie critics who needlessly need to criticize films for failing to have some sort of biting political commentary. The premise of this movie is so laughably stupid that if it took itself as seriously as you suggest it should, it would be utter trash. This is a dark comedy more than anything else, with horror/thriller elements. And it balances those elements perfectly and keeps a consistent tone throughout. I really enjoyed it for that very reason. It doesn’t try to be the next Get Out. It doesn’t fall into the pitfalls of the Purge movies. It knows what it is and never tries to take itself too seriously. It’s just a funny, charming movie with some intense and well done gore and horror aspects.

As someone who went and saw the movie, I feel that this is... kinda not the best review for it, obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinions of course. Though I felt you went into this expecting to see a new “You’re Next” and compared it to that film multiple times, but these are two completely different movies. One of the best parts about this movie is seeing this girl evolve from a victim into a survivor, and you completely glossed over so many scenes that show her doing that, destroying her dress, her resourcefulness when she gets injured and how hard she pushes herself to survive! Another 2 plot points that I feel you glossed over is the dilemma that gets presented between the younger generation and the older generation as the argue of ways to handle the situation and even debate whether the deal with la bail was even real. It was much more than a basic story and that part got glossed over during the review! You also said you “like your characters to be proactive” but in reality, young people and spoiled brats who had been given everything their whole life would be very Reactive and not be used to having to think ahead or make plans. I feel like the characters were extremely realistic, one of my favorite scenes being when one of the married into men is sitting in the bathroom on KZbin learning how to use a crossbow! So realistic 😂😂 I would encourage anyone getting to the end of this to go see the movie yourself and make a decision yourself! It at the very least will have you laughing several times!

After that, they would take Daniel’s body and have a small funeral for him. * Another idea that i would’ve done, is have Daniel survive so he could help Alex and Grace take down the rest of the family * Maybe have Grace and Alex get captured by the family and have both of them tied to the table and both of them would be sacrificed. Then Dawn comes, and the rest of the family explodes into blood like in the movie. Then, when Alex and Grace are about to walk out of the house, Alex stops and says something like “I just realized something, I’m still part of the family too” and he explodes into blood as well. It might just be my opinion, but i feel like one of those endings would made the movie’s ending 10x more satisfying

Nah. Alex was kind of an asshole from the beginning. He never loved Grace he loved the idea of her. If he loved Grace he would have let her go. Having them team up would be inconsistent with Alex's character.
@superjackster01655 жыл бұрын
R_Panda That’s the point. I’m so sick of movies doing that troupe where the rich boyfriend/husband turns out to not actually love or care about the girl. Having them team up together would’ve made Alex a more interesting character because it would show that he cared about Grace so much to the point where he’d be willing to kill his entire family, with the exception of Daniel who was on his side, just to protect her. It also would’ve helped Alex get justice/revenge for them killing Daniel.

I found that to be rather funny, just because a rule is there does not mean it HAS to be. That's what we call adverting expectations, and is often very good for a movie or book. We want them to break out of the cliches and cycle, and when they do we berate them for not following certain 'rules'. Make up your mind people...

I'm surprised to hear your perspective on this movie. I usually find myself in agreement with your commentary and take on these films, but I for one loved this movie. Sure, the heroine doesn't go on a badass murder-rampage but I found the game of cat-and-mouse to be much more realistic. I wouldn't call it a work on genius, but it was fun and had some great little laughs, especially the twist at the end.

deltaechowade Bael and Belial are both names for the same demon. Baal, Bael, Belial. There are multiple ways for many demons' names. It all depends on the language of the religion they are being observed in. Islam and Judaism and Christianity mirror each other with a lot of their beliefs and stories. They share a lot of the same demons. Spellings could vary based on translations from Arabic to English as well as any other languages used.

I love your videos but I think the entire point of this movie went over your head. You failed to mention that the majority of these people haven't had lifted a finger throughout their entire life or know anything about hard work which is why the idea that they don't know shit comes into play and why their attempts to capture her are meek the entire time of the film. Like the fat dude literally googling how to use a crossbow shows how unprepared they where for all of that shit. The only two characters who showed survival instincts are the sister in law because she was from a crackhouse and she was ready to kill to maintain the rich life style she had the main character because she was jumping from foster care to foster care so she always had something to lose.

I was like "that's me" cause I've learn to fix my garage door sensors, plant a garden, change a florescent light bulb, etc. I'm smart but don't know everything. Just cause ur rich doesn't mean ur smart. Their money wasn't earned so they didn't have to be smart. I'm sure most of their victims died fast without much of a fight due to being caught off guard.
