I think the 3 valve is a great engine, sure not as good as a 4 valve but still a good engine. It would make a great swap engine for an old hotrod, they make enough power to be fun and not overwhelm the chassis on an older car and the price is dropping.

I'm amazed the custom tune ramped up numbers that much, really goes to show that a car is only as good as what's holding it all together. Unreal camera quality and drone shots, looks almost like digital animation at some points. I've got friends running bags and coils. My take: airlift setups work just as well as coils, if you find the right one. And the convenience factor seals the deal for a daily driver. Always gotta appreciate the "welcome to chapter 2" plugs in spanish, lol, that's a throwback to HS for sure.

Great videos. Keep them coming. You are getting wheel hop - need better lower control arms (BMR is budget friendly, J&M are really nicely made, I went with Steeda Chromolly steel). The lockout (missed gear) you are experiencing is in part from movement of the drivetrain. Some urethane motor mounts will help there. You can even get a urethane kit and redo the stock and do the trans mounts. If you go with a new shifter, which would be a great idea - get the MGW or Barton. MGW is simply the best and many folks that have tried others end up adding a MGW down the road. Air suspension is for looks - decreases handling and drag abilities of the suspension. Cams are tough as you final goal must be in mind or your will spend twice. Lots of folks do the FRPP Hot Rod cams - which are designed to work with the FRPP intake, throttle body, heads, and a set of headers (without those, only top end gains, loss down below and improved sound). Brenspeed Detroit Rockers are better street cam - no loss of torque but not as high a gain, good sound. Better choices for power gains would include Comp Cams 127200, Cushman Cams, or a custom grind from Anderson Ford Motorsports. But cams choice depends on drivability desires, willingness to change springs, and final build goal - turbo, supercharger, or N/A... Good luck
@Four_Eyes6 жыл бұрын
Excellent information. Thank you Don.
@jasondelancey98936 жыл бұрын
Just to add a little about the good info above that will eliminate the lock out you are experiencing ,doing the urethane mounts alone are good but wont eliminate it from my experience but a good place to start because the stock mounts are horrible what really worked along with them is something you usually don't hear about and that's the ( K- Member Brace with Torque limiters by CHE ) cheperformance.com Part # CHE7L $179.00) Takes care of the excessive drive train movement and is easy to install and stabilizes the trans so your shifts wont be affected . I have this set up on both my S-197 - Roush and on My Shelby GT-500 - This took care of the lock out all together in all my situations of abuse - along with the urethane engine mounts and a Barton shifter just my preference the MGW is a great shifter also these are the only 2 shifters I would really recommend for the S-197 .The Barton is just a little stiffer while shifting, something to keep in mind when deciding . The MGW is closer to the stock feel easier to move between gears but they both will do the same job - again going to be personal preference . Hope this helps !
@davidw70806 жыл бұрын
Don good information, however I'm failing to see anyone who has done the FRPP cams actually gain more top end power verse the Detroit rocker cams NA grind, can you supply any evidence for this claim? One thing I do know for sure is Brenspeed doesn't publicly release there camshaft profiles. From the extensive research I have done myself (own a 06 gt with cams and frpp bolt ons) I am aware that the cam profiles of both FRPP and detroit rockers NA are very close.
@dalelockett26196 жыл бұрын
IMHO, if you really want to eliminate the shift lockouts w\ the Tremec TR3650 trans you need to install a Blowfish Racing Remote Shifter bracket to make any TR3650 shifter on any S197 a fully trans-mounted shifter to eliminate the shifter shaft binding due to the shifter being remote mounted (meaning the front section of shifter is mounted to the transmission but the rear section of shifter is mounted to the unibody so when the drivetrain flexes under load it tends to "twist" the shifter assembly causing the shifter fork shaft to induce a side load which will cause the shaft to "hang" or drag during shifting). Using a heavier built shifter (like the MGW or Barton) will help w\ this but the Blowfish Racing Remote Shifter bracket will eliminate this entirely as w\ this bracket installed the ENTIRE shifter assembly is physically mounted to the transmission & it moves w\ the drivetrain eliminating ANY shifter fork shaft binding during shifts. I have 1 of these installed on my '09 Stang using the stock shifter & it's worth it's $299.99 cost in spades as I don't miss any shifts. Combine this bracket w\ a Barton or MGW shifter & you've got a winning combo. This bracket also is a fully NHRA-certified front driveshaft safety loop when installed. AM & CJ Pony Parts carries them or you can order from Blowfish Racing. FYI......

After using an under drive pulley kit for 5 years, I finally reverted back to the stock pulleys about 2 months ago. I began monitoring vitals via Torque Pro about 3 years ago and noticed that my operating temps in heavy stop/go traffic in the summer would routinely get above 215 with no AC & 240 with the AC running. I live in the OKC area where its commonly hits 90+ with 70%+ humidity starting in June ~September. During the cooler months normal operating temp no AC would be about 200 and 210 with AC. I've upgraded to the GT500 cooling fan, replaced coolant pump and replaced degass bottle cap. So far with the stock pulleys re-installed my operating temp no AC has is about 192 and so far with AC the peak I have seen was 206 (we hit 92 with about 60% humidity a few days ago). Keeping my fingers crossed that I continue to see lower temps in the peak hot/humid season. Certainly hope to keep it well below 240.

These videos are honestly great. I'm aiming for 500-600rwhp on my 3v but way down the road since I'm a broke college student and just got the car like 2 weeks ago and I just love seeing these "stage" vids especially since I'm on the fence. It definitely might be more "efficient" to slap the CAI/full exhaust + a turbo/blower and get a light custom tune to get closer to that right off the start. But at the same time I wanna "grow" into the car, and just really have all the supporting mods on it first anyways and throw a forged shortblock down the road as well. Plus it might be cool to try and go for 400-500rwhp N/A with a shortblock and bolt ons + a custom tune before a blower. Pero whatever I'm rambling, great video man!

It has been rebuilt by a local transmission shop, rated to 1k horsepower. It has all the properties of the 5R55S street fighter. Here is a link of it www.cjponyparts.com/5r55s-street-fighter-transmission-1200-hp-gt-2005-20010/p/TRANS28/?gclid=CjwKCAjws8vaBRBFEiwAQfhs-LgJr7Xla-71ObnNx3B0WbvUSZUwqovEizqpb7_vZu-7WDXAKePjwBoCTG4QAvD_BwE

Great video once again. Been waiting for it and it was worth the wait. Very informative and a big help for my future build. I'm interested in knowing the years that were having overheating issues with the under drive pulleys. Looking for the next video already on the road to 700!

You need a short shifter (Hurst shifter)man you’re going to LOVE it. I have it on my 07 gt and it makes it really easy to shift. That’s the only thing missing in your car now 👍🏽

Yeah you're right, I added it to the build sheet for Stage 3.

Your videos are excellent quality man. Way better than any other mustang channel honestly. You should have way more subscribers

You really need to do Lower control arms and relocation brackets. Will greatly improve your acceleration. Lowering the car without the relocation brackets puts the LCA geometry way off and when you launch the LCA's will actually make the tires break loose instead of plant into the ground. Will be a good comparison for the 0-60 and 20-80. Will help with grip for shifts as well. Its a great compliment mod. If you want power you need to beable to put it to the ground. Also look into KW coilovers. Better option IMO. Well any corner carver will say that. Great vid. Looking forward to the next. Subbed

Glad I found these videos. I just found a s197 for sale, and will be looking to pick that up as a project car. 2005 is a lot cheaper to register in Clark county than a 2019 LOL

no doubt, should be less than a hundred bucks

glad your back. I forgot you didn't cam your car. since your going boost then your smart to stick with the factory cams

Awesome series! Really enjoying it. Thanks for sharing! 😁👍🏼

Im glad you said to avoid buying the aftermarket throttle body, that's that much more money towards the cams
@Four_Eyes4 жыл бұрын
Definitely. Throttle body upgrade is really only good for high-boost applications (10+ PSI).

I don't even own a Mustang. But good content and very informative. I myself have a sweet 1970 Pontiac Firebird 400 and 1989 Chevy Camaro RS. 🤘

Good numbers on the dyno, well put together video ! this just backs up what my butt dyno told me lol. Lost torque gained top end power with the frp manifold.
@bratpane16 жыл бұрын
CLPATTERSON Same here, but I used the Steed delete plates. Can feel the reduced torque at low end, but that hit at 4000 rpms is fantastic. Almost didn't use them based on the video about the Ford Racing manifold, but since I already had the tune made for them I put them in and have no regrets.
@CLPATTERSON6 жыл бұрын
I agree, the stock manifold is best with delete plates.
