@14:18 explaining why Man City are vulnerable with Walker and Gvardiol playing winger is essentially the same argument for Spurs conceding high quality chances with Porro and Udogie asked to press high as pseudo dual 10s. Spurs reliant on Van de Ven & Man City reliant on Rodri... and both injured for this game.

FINALLY someone who is actually giving Spurs some credit for playing a great game. Maddison and Deki just played their best matches in a Spurs shirt. Please wrap them in bubble wrap and keep them fit and healthy. I mean Vicario just played 60 minutes with a fractured ankle. Can’t wait to see us losing to Fulham. I love being a Spurs fan 😅
@d1sciple832 сағат бұрын
One of the things that isn't being discussed enough (other than the sprinting stats) is that this team has simply aged. They could get away with no Rodri in previous seasons as the other players had the legs to cover around him. But Gundo has come back and is 34, having played in a league where running requirements are lower, Walker has clearly lost a step this season and it has been visible in every game he has been involved in, and you cannot think that Bernardo Silva is going to cover in midfield at any point. Couple that with Foden's dramatic loss of form since the end of last season, and no one other than Haaland scoring enough goals, and they simply do not have the same quality right now. It might also be part of the intensity of playing so many games that players cannot sustain such performance for so long. This might be the biggest challenge Pep has faced in his career and it will be interesting to see how they approach it. Tl;dr; Great teams get old, City have done this season.
@Neki_Works3 сағат бұрын
I'd really waited for this since Sunday and none of the popular tacticos did an analysis. It seems they were disappointed by Spurs or something But the score deceives the fact that Harland missed chances or Vicario did absolutely well.
@timokaaarp7779Сағат бұрын
It was a magnificent performance from Spurs - magnificent! I'm struggling to think of a game where every single Spurs player was, as a minimum, an 8 out of 10. Or any team, for that matter. Games like this are very rare. The tactics worked, the players worked like mad and they deserved the rewards.
@spoooky_matt2 сағат бұрын
The only thing I would add is that there are some really bad individual errors happening that are leading to chances for City's opposition, and City usually don't make these types of mistakes. Gvardiol was guilty of two more bad giveaways in the Feyenoord match yesterday.
@edmanning274Сағат бұрын
Isn’t this Ange’s system in a nutshell? He wants to play the xg game, by rigging YOUR final 3rd to guarantee goals while letting you have chances that he thinks are overrated. The one thing I’ve noticed since he’s arrived is that forwards really don’t convert one-on-ones as much as you’d expect. It’s as if spurs know they’ll concede 5 turnovers a game, and feel like it’ll take more than 6 to lose a game.

10:19 Walker cannot go to cover maddison, he would be leaving an easy pass on his side uncovered with clear line of pass possible from Son. Also, once Son gets the ball there, the quality of the player that has the ball in the box matters a lot. Son's finishing rate means that defenders must over-emphasize defense onto him. A lot of Spurs goals are created from opponents having to over-defend Son because the consequence of not doing so is a clear proven threat.

Been waiting for this one. Thanks for all the analysis. The city average position map reminded me of my playing day (under 10s in Glasgow in the 60s). Spurs handled city’s press well (after the first 10 mins) but they also outplayed city when they dropped back a bit from the high energy press after the first goal. To coin a phrase from my under 10s days, city got gubbed, well and truly gubbed….

Great video. Deep inside left...do you mean a left half? Maddison was amazing at building the play from the back! If i was a City fan I'd be very worried indeed. This looks like its going to get worse before it gets better! The total lack of intensity and basic covering is completely bizarre from a group of players who have won so much. Are they all just knackered?
@nigelee3 сағат бұрын
I still reckon Maddison is at his best as a 10, but playing him deeper is an intriguing tactical option, and a possible option for England.
@Eldriitch3 сағат бұрын
I mean it's exactly the Real Madrid problem. Having very good players and putting them in their best role does not a team make. Maddison's greatest strength here is being able to adapt. If he had played his conventional 10 role, city would have had a much easier time of cutting him off from the ball in the buildup. It's players like that who thrive in knockout football, as their role changes to fit the tactical needs of each fixture. It will be fascinating to see how Teuchal uses all the options available to him, in that regard, especally given how much he loves to prepare tactically and adjust his system for each match.

@PinkybumСағат бұрын
Gundogan is the problem. He's completely lost it. He can't run, can't control the ball and can't pass. He's someone you could bring on in an advanced role for 10 minutes at the end but you can't rely on him for the full 90.

I have nothing to share other than really interesting insights. The stats speak for themselves really. Spurs ran more and worked harder, meanwhile City were off the pace with their intensity by some margin. Spurs were fortunate not to be a couple down in the first 20 minutes but spurs counter attack worked magnificently. Anyway next game spurs will be back to normal and fluffing their lines

I mean, if you ignore that Spurs are top scorers in the league and have now scored 3 or more goals in more games than any other team in the league.
They’ve played games without Rodri in the past and whilst their win record is worse without him, they’ve never looked this bad. I don’t think Rodri alone is the issue. He’s not the reason Haaland has only scored 2 goals despite having the highest xg compared to all players over the past 5 weeks.
