He had missed against Brazil in the World Cup and everyone knew he was the worst penalty taker for Chile on that final against Argentina. He said once that during the walk from the halfway line he had made the decision and when the ref blew his whistle said "Why not?" and he made the chip. He's still crap at penalties but he won us a trophy!

Ricardo's gloveless save against England was a save that I'll always remember. Matt Le Tissier only ever missed 1 during his entire career was hoping he would be interviewed. Also Breitner scored against the Netherlands in the 1974WC and a few days after, and even though he did not miss, he could not bear to watch it.

Love penalties. Took every penalty and free kick from aged 7 or 8 until I stopped playing competitive at 20. Never missed a single pk. All I ever did was pretend the rear support poles were players and just choose one and lazer a pass there. Worked like a charm. I’m old now. I still don’t miss 😎

My philosophy on shoot outs as a manager would be this: get your takers gathered round and they have to tell you where they are planning to place the kick... even get them to draw a ball on a goal on a piece of paper before the shoot out starts, almost a mental exercise... send them to the halfway line and get them to control breathing and visualise that one spot they chose... then reassure them, if you miss in the spot you chose, zero blame will be attached to you... however, if you miss by changing your mind... you will be held responsible... sounds brutal, but it’s almost a reverse psychology tactic... they know they have a safety blanket of missing in their chosen spot without blame

I love penalty shoot-outs , hate it when the commentators say its a farce its not its the ultimate test. its a big game being decided via a "football skill". I always took penalties, practised them all the time from a youngster in a park with nothing but passing car lights to help me see! So when it was penalty time Lineker sort of got it right your technique should be so finely honed that you take a good penalty all the time . Remember the odds are in your favour and this is what you have waited for ...

The penalty changes the roles from the normal Player and the goalkeeper, because in a penalty shootout the player has the pressure and not the keeper

Penalty shootout is indeed the ultimate test in a players ability, especially for the kickers. If the goal keeper is ambidextrous, all the more difficult to score because both lobes of an ambidextrous brain works equally..

When a game ends up a draw, penalties are unfair because it's completely luck almost like flipping a coin to decide the winner. I say when it's a draw bring back the golden goal rule but this time the goal keepers can't use their hands to save. That would be so much more fair 🤔🤯
