"A Fox News guest declared that the gender pay gap exists because women are "less ambitious" than men and that most would be happier staying at home with children.
Writer Gavin McInnes, a co-founder of Vice Media who left the company in 2007, made the inflammatory comments Thursday evening while on "Hannity" along with attorney and Fox News analyst Tamara Holder.
"Women do earn less in American because they choose to," he said. "They would rather go to their daughter's piano recital than stay all night at work, working on a proposal, so they end up earning less. They're less ambitious."
"What?" replied an incredulous Holder."

Nate Hoffman Only if you don't know how to use your time. And You forget. Noone is forcing women to stay home all day. When I take a day off. And go to starbucks or to the mall or shopping. Strangly enough there are women there. When I drive past a park I see women there with their kids. When I wasn't working and I wa shelping my cousin do things I saw women everywhere doing things like sitting and reading and so on outside. When I went to school downtown Chicago I saw women walking up and down the strip shopping and taking in the sights. The Laziest women sit at home all day every day and complain about it. While they make the choice to do that. And i mean the general term choice. Not this overly intentional meaning Ana seems to think people mean when they say women are making the choices that cause their problems.

Iulia Ionela Petcu "conspiracy theories." - I linked articles related to studies moron, one of the articles even had a link to the related study in it, do you even know what the word "conspiracy" means? "they did not diferrentiate between stay-at-home fathers and unemployed men." - You are some kind of stupid, let me put a link to the study and explain (www.jstor.org/doi/story/10.2307/PR.2011.06.22.4754815). Now I can see that you're slow so first lets read the *TITLE* of the study press release on the page and what that *MEANS*. Title: "Husband's employment status threatens marriage, but wife's does not, study finds" - Did you read that idiot, its saying that a man's income *AFFECTS HIS ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIPS WHILE A WOMAN'S INCOME DOES NOT*, this is common sense, we all already know this, so to say it doesn't differentiate between stay at home fathers and unemployed men is pointless because *BOTH PARTIES ARE NOT GENERATING INCOME*. Again lets go over what it says: "Husbands *employment status* threatens marriage, but wife's does not, study finds", look how simple it was to deduce how irrelevant your argument was, because stay-at-home fathers and unemployed men *HAVE THE SAME EMPLOYMENT STATUS*, guess what that is................... *UNEMPLOYED*, the answer refuting your idiotic logic is in *YOUR OWN WORDS* ("unemployed men"), staying at home *IS NOT A JOB*, both stay-at-home fathers and unemployed men *ARE UNEMPLOYED*, that's why you putting the term "unemployed men" as a separate thing is *IDIOTIC*, unless you're implying that those husbands are *EMPLOYED BY THEIR WIVES* then I don't see how you can logically separate the two. "But now that I think of it, it is rather sad that some unknown person on the internet is so unhappy, so desperate and holds such low self-esteem that they are trying to project their feelings of worthlessness and misery on people who are fulfilled and content with their lives." - If you knew that someone could possibly be living in a situation that does not benefit them and could lead to their detriment are you supposed to remain quiet, you say that he is happy (and he probably is), but ignorance is bliss, what if his wife *IS CHEATING*, what if his children *AREN'T HIS*, are you saying he should remain in ignorance of this and not try to find out *JUST FOR THE SAKE OF BEING HAPPY*, is he supposed to *LIVE A LIE* just to be happy, that's what's sad, not what I said. In fact I'm going to agree with you for a moment, *LETS ASSUME I'M 100% WRONG*, even by those standards, it *COULD NOT HURT* to check out anything I said, I hope he reads this and understands that I'm being genuine, in fact expect me to be wrong, believe in your wife and your marriage, but *STILL* check these things out, because living a lie just to be happy is what's sad, even if you believe I'm just trying to bring him down, etc, he should at least still be cautious and check out what I said, because to be logical there are *THOUSANDS* of men on this earth who are better looking, more well endowed sexually and have more wealth *AND THEY WERE STILL CHEATED ON* so for any man to think he's immune to infidelity he has to be *IN DENIAL* or a *COMPLETE IDIOT*.
@ucantseeme3d

Iulia Ionela Petcu "You are the only one acting overly emotional here with your caps-lock bolded random words and your lack of logic in your so-called "arguments"." - Caps is for emphasis, I could very well not use it, but you don't care about logic anyways so would it even matter, you're grasping for straws here, if you cared anything about logic you'd attack my actual arguments rather than focused on capital and emboldened letters. Oh and please tell me which of my arguments lack logic because its just seems you're saying stuff just for the sake of saying it, note to idiot, just saying something doesn't make it true, when I claimed your arguments were emotional and illogical I explained why. "I am not a hypocrite, because, unlike you, I make no assumptions, I am just taking his comment at face value, because I do not him nor do I know anything about his life." - You are making assumptions, if you don't know him personally you still have to assume that what he's saying is true, and his wife could very well be cheating on him and neither of you would know, this is another example of you not using logic, just because someone says something doesn't mean its true, he could change his profile thumbnail and say he's a black man in his 20's, does that now make it automatically true, by your idiotic logic it does, you have to assume he's telling the truth. "You are advising this man to be "cautios" based on absolutely no evidence to indicate that he may be in a position where is being deceived or anything similar" - You are advising this man *NOT* to be cautious based on absolutely *NO EVIDENCE EITHER*, get this through your thick illogical skull, him saying he's happily married *DOESN'T MEAN ITS TRUE*, him saying he's not having relationship problems *DOESN'T MAKE IT A FACT*, because people get cheated on everyday and in most cases *ITS THE PEOPLE WHO DIDN'T EXPECT IT*. "And by the way, telling random people on the internet to get tested for std is just as devoid of logic. But you should try it! lmao" - Again pertaining to the scenario it would be a man talking about IDK having one night stands, etc and I tell him to get tested, I'm not speaking about just randomly getting tested and you know that full well, you're just being disingenuous, I didn't just randomly tell this guy his wife could be cheating or his children could not be his, I told this to a man who's acting so sure of his position in life when he is literally at a point in life where he has no actually control, he's financial power in his relationship, I'm not just telling this to a random person, it actually pertains to his life because again even studies show that men in his position are more likely to be divorced.
@ucantseeme3d
@ucantseeme3d 9 жыл бұрын
Iulia Ionela Petcu This is a waste of time back and forth, I spent my time actually reading all your arguments before, but at the end of the day, he's going to do what he wants with the perspective I provided, what you or I have to say on the matter is pointless. Were just going back and forth and you keep speaking nonsense e.g. you said: "in order to make an accurate assertion that he is at risk of getting divorced or of his wife cheating on him or his children not being biologically his, you would have to posses way more information on him than a KZbin comment." - lol please go google the meaning of "assertion", assertions can be true *OR* false, that's why they aren't necessary mean't to be accurate, they I simply made to *BE ASSESSED*, which I hope he will. This is going to go nowhere, good bye and good luck in life.

Weronika Łoboda no because it's wrong. sexism is discrimination based on gender. that's it. so a sexist joke would be "women make sandwiches for men", as it's targeting women exclusively for no reason other than they are women. "the pay gap doesn't exist because of discrimination, it exists because of biological differences between the majority of men and the majority of women" is NOT sexist because caveats are made to excuse those who don't fall neatly into the little boxes, and it doesn't show a bias towards either gender. also, glad to know you have a sexist attitude, as you mentioned only misogyny and not misandry, excluding men because they are men? sexist pig. (i'm kidding of course. such a remark would be stupid. sure are glad there are no people so say such a thing about either gender, ohhhh wait, #killallmen .) now then, where's the sexism in this comment section?

Statistics show on average women earn less because they do more part time jobs then men and they also choose university courses that by and large lead to less well paying jobs. Fewer women pick chemistry, physics, mathematics, engineering etc and far more women then men choose the arts and humanities which by and large pay less. If you work in McDonald's behind a counter men and women are paid the same, if your a primary school teacher your paid the same regardless of sex.

Anna, you screwed up. A choice does not mean that you are completely happy with every aspect of the choice. I had a choice 5 years ago. I had a job offer in Tampa for $175,000/yr. I had never made significantly more than $100,000 in my life, but I was 50 years old, and had truly GREAT friends here in Michigan, and decided that I would rather take my chances here than go to a new town for money. I did NOT say GOODY! I will probably make way less money! I chose friends over money. That IS "how it works". We choose what is important to us, and sometimes that means sacrificing money.
@qhsperson
@qhsperson 7 жыл бұрын
At $100K a year, you're not exactly hurting for cash, Pat. And there is a difference between making a choice via free will and making a choice out of hard necessity. And Tampa is no garden of Eden. The extra cash for the job is a warning signal, as far as I'm concerned.
@pdoylemi
@pdoylemi 7 жыл бұрын
qhsperson No, the job was in a larger company than I had been in, directing a whole new division. In fact, my brother, a VP at Qualcomm at the time, who was the one who first mentioned the opportunity to me, said he thought that was too low for the job they were offering. And Tampa is not a bad city. It's not perfect, but how many are? But the fact that I was not hurting doesn't change the point - often people prioritize family or friends or community above career, and there are studies that show that women tend to do that more than men. And what are these "hard necessities" that would prevent a person from being able to take a better job? I suspect that each usually is actually a personal choice. Often they are very difficult choices to be sure - but still choices.

Pat Doyle One hard necessity would be having to take a higher paycheck because of crushing debt, like thousands in college loans or a looming medical crisis that can't be evaded. Another could be having to relocate because of family responsibilities. I know you'll say, still a choice, which is technically correct, but you still have to live with yourself.
@pdoylemi
@pdoylemi 7 жыл бұрын
qhsperson That's true - so what? It is called "life", for both men and women. When I was 30, I started a small business that after 3 years was doing fairly well. Then I met my wife to be. Before we got married I had to assess my prospects. The business was doing OK, but I was worried that it relied too much on a few large contracts with local branches of national corporations. The loss of any one of which might put it in jeopardy. I spent a year trying to diversify more, but was not in a position to feel secure. So I gave up my dream of being my own boss and sold the business and took a job. I hated to do it, but I wanted more to be able to provide a secure, stable, life for my future wife and family. I have often made career choices I did not want to make because of life pressures. The choice to stay in Michigan came only after more than 30 years of compromise in which I managed to earn enough to make that choice - but it still cost me a lot. If you are looking for a world where you can make major life choices without any negative side effects, please find the way to Xanadu - I would like to know where that is too.

I just loved that hypocritical comment Ana made about McInnes having a small McPennis. She essentially undermined her own statement about Gavin being sexist by comparing a man's self worth to the size of his penis, which in itself is a sexist thing to say. I generally appreciate her logic and analysis, but this time she cheesed me.

Women aren't bad at negotiating salaries. We are TAUGHT to accept what we're given and smile when given it. We have been socialized to be quiet, and accept whatever we're given. People shouldn't shit all over women for that. We should teach our sisters, daughters, and more importantly, ourselves not just the basics, that we're equal to men and boys, but that being assertive & 'bossy' is okay. And, not just okay. In this economic climate, it is necessary.
@JeffPenaify

Eve Lister do you really feel you have been socialized to be quiet? studies show that boys get punished more often and spend more time in time outs/suspension so you would assume the boys would be more inclined and socialized to be passive and non argumentative, plus the fact males tend to be far more socially isolated than women collectively, so is it how we are socialized or does it come down to evolutionary socio biological factors that males tend to be more forward and demanding
@elizabethoni9069

I think its generally because girls tend to mature a lot faster than boys, hence tend to behave themselves more often. I remember always looking around the classroom and wondering why all the boys around me were acting like idiots, especially when there is no reward for acting like it. It probably also contributes when males have more testosterone, which can make people a lot more hot-blooded which serves in financial competitiveness.

Anna is somewhat right ... sure, men do have higher positions in companies, but a greater part of the wagegap is because men choose different careers e.g engineering in stead of nursing, which comes with much higher earnings.

nguyen danny , As you already indicate, some NY salons "were caught", with good reason. Paying employees different for the same work based upon gender, race or faith has been banned by the Equal Pay Act (EPA) 1963 written into law by John F Kennedy and is subject to prosecution. And that is why the wage-gap is a myth ... it has nothing to do with being paid less for the same work. If it were so the US courts would be swamped by litigation against companies involved with such practices. And besides that, if women were paid 77 cents to the dollar, men would be fired all around and replaced by women; what company wouldn't like a 23% reduction in its payroll but have the same output? This 2009 report of the US Department of Labor says clearly there is almost no wage-gap ... www.consad.com/content/reports/Gender%20Wage%20Gap%20Final%20Report.pdf

I'm disappointed. TYT missed the elephant in the room, which is that we STILL do not expect the men to step up, and we go out of our way to admire their sacrifices when they do. Women, by contrast, are treated as *failures* when they delegate this kind of work to someone else in favor of their careers. Yes, women choose the less ambitious career path, and it's very often because they choose to be there for the piano recitals, etc. Someone has to do it. It does not follow that women have the same "choice" that men in the exact same position do. Single fathers are heroes; single mothers are whores, and so on. THAT egregiously sexist iceberg is the mostly-concealed hazard.

Part of not being able to negotiate salaries is a lack of knowledge about what their work is worth because people don't ask their coworkers how much they make. Women are also offered less than men to begin with and they don't get promoted.

"You'd be happier...imagine coming home to mommy! mommy!" This guy obviously doesn't have kids either, or if he does, he dumps it all on his wife and barely pays attention to them. You come home to mommy, mommy! Do this, give me that, I want this, I won't do that. You come home to dinner, laundry, dishes, errands that need to be run, homework that needs to be done, monotonous chores, constant demands, and little time to one's self, and in many instances, a spouse who is barely helpful. Some women prefer being homemakers, but by no means all. Women, the same as men, get a sense of satisfaction from utilizing their intellect and creativity, making a contribution and getting paid for it, having stimulating conversations with fellow adults. Many women don't have the temperament to be good mothers and don't enjoy housework and cooking in the least. He's totally bullshitting when he says he just wants women to be happy. He thinks all women are the same, so it's plain that he's never gotten to know one single woman well in his entire life, and doesn't care to either.

moonlily1 I get that "Mommy, mommy!" feeling when my dog comes to greet me when I come back from work. Some women are meant to have kids, and some of us are meant to be dog ladies (etc.). The job I have at the moment is far from ideal, but I do enjoy making my own money. And I don't really like when men take it upon themselves to speak for all women (or all men for that matter. Men are all different, too; some guys are happier staying at home with the kids).
@moonlily1
@moonlily1 9 жыл бұрын
ElectricMayhem87 And some of us can go either way. I had wanted to have kids, but only in the context of marriage...I didn't find anyone I wanted to marry, and I'm at the age where if I am going to have kids I've got less than 10 years to do it. It looks unlikely, and I don't think my body would bounce back because I have metabolic issues, and at this point I really can't afford to raise a child. If I got pregnant by someone I loved, I'd keep it, but I am not looking to get pregnant. I'd enjoy being a mother, but I can be happy without being a mother too. Women are human beings as complex as men, we aren't just a bunch of uteruses with feet who feel empty without a baby in us.
