This song helped me eventually break up with an ex, actually. It helped me realize that I wasn’t doing anything wrong, and that it was my ex who consistently let their fears that I was going to hurt them like their past partners did consume them. It didn’t matter that I did everything I could to make them feel safe-even at the cost of my independence or my own feelings of safety. They had to choose to trust me. 😭 This song and the mood and emotions. Trust is the biggest thing about relationships. And sadly sometimes the people who had to be to survive is not the same person we are authentically. So sometimes we are very different people at the start of a relationship and sadly at the end. And a lot of it feels queer coded, as yeah when just a friend ment kissing secretly. My partner always suspected me of cheating because they wouldn't let me be me, instead they wanted me to be this person I never was and acting like I was lying to them for not being this person they had in their head. This song has so many meanings though. Honestly going through anyones phone is a big red flag for me now. Everyone changes, but sometimes we change in ways we couldn't even see because some of us have to unlearn a lot of damage our parents did to us and past relationships.
