As a Led Zeppelin fan I was quite afraid when KZbin recommended me this video and I clicked it because I thought he would ruin the song, but then I started listen to him and I gotta say he did an amazing job. Any jackoff can be a pop singer, but to be a hard rock singer it requires a strong voice, vocal range doesn't mean a thing. Mariah Carey has more of a vocal range than Freddie Mercury, but Mariah uses generic 1 tone vibrato and auto tune while Mercury vocals are strong, authentic and capable of shattering mountains. These judges are outclassed in every way, they can't teach someone how to fly when they can barely crawl.

I suppose Will I Am had it figured out. All the proof we need is his voice when he told his name. That voice, as amazing as it is, will not survive more than five years unless he gets some safer technique, exactly like Robert Plant himself. It went STEEP downhill around 75'. But it could just be a coincidence that his voice sounded tattered after such a short performance, but the evidence thus far, to me, points towards the fact that he has range, and lots of great intonation, but is missing the distortion part, and that alone will fuck your voice up good if it isn't under control.

The thing with Robert Plant is that he didn't really take care of his voice. His voice actually went downhill at the end of 72' due to carelessness. He had the flue or something similar at several occasions during 72', 73' and 75'. And it didn't just happen during the winter. And if you've seen pictures of him he didn't wear so much clothes either. Although yes he did drink stuff to maintain his voice but I mean....to sing night after night songs like "Immigrant song" and "Since I've been loving you"really takes a tool on your voice. But had he been more careful perhaps his voice would've lasted longer..aaand sounded different! =)

Frank doesn't sound that powerful without a microphone. No rock singer does, the mic is what makes it sound powerful. Listen to his covers on youtube without a mic, doesn't sound the same. I know, I'm a rock singer and without a mic I don't sound powerful just intense.

There are plenty of heavy metal vocalists who have performances without a microphone whom don't sound anywhere near as strained or 'weak' as the man above does WITH his microphone. Look up Fabio Lione......Fabio is NOT know for having a power voice, which is why he's so relevant (look at his more operatic/Baritone stuff.)
