To anyone not enjoying looking at Alex in that strange seating: Animation and pretty visuals are time consuming to create and can add a level of expense not needed. I love all the tactical insight from Alex, and would far rather see more content from Tifo and put up with however it is presented than have less and it look as pretty as the animated ones. More please! I would love a series statistically comparing historical/current elite players with each other and less elite players - i.e. statistically why was Makelele such a good CDM, how does Kante compare? How do they compare with Ibrahim Sangare?

I thought it was interesting when stated that Ziyech comes inside slightly to make room for the overlap of James which is true but what makes this not work is that this blocks room for Havertz and they end up in the same position as Havertz wants to attack that space too. Playing both Mount and Havertz as central midfielders when they are more attacking midfielders shows that the system isn't working when they play together. Of course Havertz hasn't adjusted to English football just yet. Chelsea doesn't have the right balance in midfield playing both Mount and Havertz. Playing Kovacic or Jorginho in that position would bring better balance as they sit slightly deeper and let Ziyech/Pulisic push on and come inside. Chelsea are often losing midfield battles and need to address that!

@@Tifo Alex's point wouldn't fix the problem Chelsea have. Playing Havertz on the left of the midfield 3 would mean Mount is sacrificed in the team (which we all know Lampard favours Mount over Havertz) so would have to play a Jorginho/Kovacic type player when Ziyech is the right side which could work. BUT! Playing KH on the left doesn't fit his game (Sure, he could learn this but Chelsea fans are already losing patience with him). When Werner plays on the left he comes inside like Aubameyang does for Arsenal and takes the space again leaving KH further out wide when Chilwell overlaps (Werner is far from a natural left winger, but that's a different conversation). Same goes for Pulisic/Hudson-Odoi on the left they always come inside. This still leaves KH in no mans land. When KH played as a 10 or slightly inside on the right has seen his best performances for Chelsea. Chelsea have a problem, when KH plays it looks best to play a 4-2-3-1 with him as a No10. Or leave him out the team until he learns his position that Lampard wants him to play, like Fabinho/Keita at Liverpool. Finally, it doesn't look like Lampard knows where to play him either and playing Werner on the left is showing his tactical inadequacies.

Mount’s journey from a 10 to a box to box 8 echoing that of Lampard’s is a good point. There is a rather clear bias that Frank has towards his “successor” that can upset a lot of fans who feel he should be starting behind havertz, kovacic etc. Personally i feel as though his performances warrant his status in the squad, he works very hard to show that he can be part of a very strong starting XI despite his youth.

Well he inherited a squad which was half Conte 343 and half Sarri 433, with no option to change it, so season one was kinda mourinho pragmatism trying to pick the best system for the match. To a certain extent injuries have dictated tactics, as ziyech, pulisic, Havertz, CHO and Werner haven't all been fully fit at the same time, so it would be interesting to see who he picks if all are fully fit and available over a month. I do think that Chelsea are looking a bit more like Liverpool than any old Chelsea team as the preference so far is for inverted forward wingers and attacking full backs. It makes ziyech's injury a problem as then only Havertz is left footed to play on the right, and he's out of form. There is a slightly different take to Liverpool though as giroud or Abraham are used as focal points like Costa or drogba, whereas firmino is more there to create space for Salah and mane through his movement. Another difference with Liverpool is the midfield. Chelsea have smaller, more technical players in there who are certainly able to play better football than Liverpool's. However, their lack of physicality can leave them open, and you could see in the wolves game that they found it hard against a team that matched their energy in the middle. It means that when they click, they're capable of playing very high level football, but they can also lose control of a game. They're very different to the old Chelsea midfields of lampard, ballack, Mikel, matic and essien. Maybe this is why they want rice as a bit of extra physicality, and maybe the balance of the team is still a little off with 7 creative players on the pitch. Overall we might say that the attack and full backs resemble Liverpool and the midfield Manchester city or even Barcelona if you put jorginho in for kante, so we'll see they're able to continue in this way or if some creativity somewhere will be sacrificed for some more steel and physicality.

Ziyech injury is killing chelseas attack and Havertz. I thing Havertz need Ziyech to make runs in behind the defens as Ziyech runs in to the middle makes space for Havertz to make runs in the box. Ziyech also help Havertz alot in defens.

You state that we're a countering side, but honestly I haven't seen us do one successful counter and we don't really push that many people up for the counter. Plus at least in the last two games, it seems like our tactics have mostly just been to pass it around until we can get it into James who just spams the ball into the box. We also mostly pass to our CB's who then pass to our midfield and then try attacking through our full-backs on the wings. Plus you say we play with 2 8's but if you watch our games that's normally only against bottom 8 sides, if we play a better team, we often try and do 2 8's for the first half and then switch more into 2 defensive mids with one 8 pushing up. Then once we push them back to their box, will the other mid come forward, but even then, one our team pushes quite far forward, so really they still aren't really two 8's pushed high, but just the mid pushed up high. We also pass the ball back way too often to be considered a counter-attacking side, as we slow down all progression of the ball every time we go forward by doing this. also with the introduction of Giroud, we've been doing a more boot up to Giroud to beat the press and then we pass around the mid until the other team gets back and then try attacking through our wingbacks again. I feel like you only watched the Sheffield and Burnley game and then only half of the Leeds game to make this analysis, as it really hasn't represented how we play. Sort of disappointed with this video Tifo, feels like you're saying what football experts said we would play like at the beginning of the season and not how we have actually been playing like.

I was watching tonight's match (Wolves away) and couldn't help but notice just how much territory they leave Kante to cover. Havertz and Mount play very high and wide. With Reece James inverting there's a bit of extra insurance but when he joins the play they're incredibly vulnerable to breaks through the middle.

1. Griezmann on the right wing doesn't work. He's a counter attacking central player. 2. Too many lethargic players; Messi, Coutinho, etc. 3. Messi uncomfortable as the false nine, with three players trying to occupy the same areas. 4. Not enough cover for the defense, both through system and players, and because... 5. Players no longer Barca quality; looking at you Pique and Busquets.

As great as I think a lot of Tifo content is, there are some glaring errors here... For starters, Mourinho actually played 2 up top a lot of that first season with Guðjohnsen playing off of Drogba, and on top of that, neither Essien and Del Horno signed for Chelsea until the following season

I feel Kai is underutilized in Lampard's 4-3-3. His prime is closer to the goal, rather than doing box-to-box. I wonder if he would be better as a 10, with Mount and Kante (or Jorginho) with more defensive roles. 4-4-1-1 in defense, and 4-2-3-1 in attack, with lots of fullback overlapping and winger going more central.

The thing I don't get is how you suggest that Billy can play as an 8 or a cover for Kante, but don't suggest Jorge there. Like I'm not saying that Jorghino should play instead, it's just more Billy is very much like Jorghino in the sense that he's not actually that fast and is better at passing and the technical skills than the athletic sides. so if Jorghino doesn't fit the system, I can't see how Billy will either. Honestly, unless we try playing him as a 10, I can't see how this system accommodates Billy and that will be a major headache for Lampard

Why we don't play MARCOS ALONSO AS A WINGER. IT IS HIS NATURAL POSITION. Rio Ferdinand, Ian Wright and Graeme Souness said it straight away, when they saw him play under Antonio Conte (he has SCORED 22 GOALS in 4 Seasons) the most than any other Defender.
