Howard seeks out Pembleton for some advice but Frank is not in the mood. This usually means he is going to rant. Homicide: Life on the Street.

One of the best scenes in television history. The show itself was truly underated despite the fact that it had a great cast, great writers, and great producers and directors. Television doesn't get any better than this.

Blackpoetrylove999 I concur.

Now this is great TV...this is the only show I watched where I got ‘lost’ in the dialogue that I sometimes forgot about the plot or the cases they were working on. Terrific ensemble cast.

Masterclass and powerful acting from Andre Braugher. Very underrated best actor.

How did they write this? Absolutely brilliant and it always haunts me when I rewatch it...

I thought this was just great writing/acting when I first saw this 20 years ago. Now, it's almost like gospel to me. Past plans (career & personal) have blown up in my face, so I have no expectations of what is to come. I no longer hope for good things, I just want to get through a day without any bad things. And plenty of coffee.

Not after 5pm on day shift, you will become a jumpy, tense idiot. Night shift is a different matter.

One of the best moments from the many great moments in the best police show of all time. My heartfelt thanks to all involved in making it happen.

This is such a good scene I looked for the spec script (Season 3 Episode 9, "Every Mother's Son") to find this scene. Eventually found the script but not this scene. Which means its either improvised, or written on the fly by Fontana and Yoshimura. Either way, one of the best scenes ever to grace network television.
