One of my favourite shows of all time. It works as a travel show where you get to experience these other cultures but it's also like no other travel show in existence because of how funny Karl is and how human his reactions are to everything. It's like the most realistic travel show ever because all of the weird, annoying, gross, and funny stuff is included too, it's not just the silver lining of every place.

Brings back so many great memories, spent two months in China. The old Great wall is the best part, away from tourists, i walked for hours and many miles. Had the massage and cups, its not so bad. Went to the Shaolin Temple, Chengdu Panda Sanctuary, Xi An, Beijing, Guilin, Dragons Back Bone and so many other places. The spitting is so common, could never get used to that. No queuing either, its a free for all. But such a fascinating country with an amazing history... Would recommend it to everyone, but you need at least a couple of months. Such a vast country and different regions.

The needle through the glass thing is real but the glass they use is very brittle and thin so it isn't as impressive as it might seem at first glance. It works best with heavier needles. Still requires precision though, has to hit at a right angle.

You should check out shaolin monk training. Breaking metal things on their head and throwing needles through glass is very real. Though to pop the balloon they don't actually have to have the needle go through. It only requires the needle to hit it hard enough to force the glass to crack which will expel small bits of glass outward on the other side to hit the balloon.
