A note on kipping pullups: A kipping pullup like what you see in crossfit is to a regular pullup what a push press is to an overhead press. It recruits more muscles to do the same movement instead of isolating a smaller amount. In this instance it changes the exercise to more of a cardio one than a strength one. Also, keep in mind that in order to have the shoulder girdle strength to do multiple kips without tearing anything, you have to be able to do a fair amount of strict pullups anyway. No, I don't do Crossfit. I just sought to understand the rationale behind the kip rather than just outright rejecting it.

I think the thing that has always helped Rich Froning be a champ is knowing his pace. He never starts out too fast or too slow. His pace is consistent throughout, and he seems to understand that not stopping or stopping minimally is what wins. Good lesson...

I love how it was crazy suspense music up until Rich finished and after it was actually praise music that they were listening to. It's just so amazing that they fuel off of praise to God to push harder when many rely on emotions being stirred from lyrics to form anger to push harder (myself). Amazing.

Pull ups are a bodyweight movement invented by gymnasts, used as a strength training progression. The kipping pull up is a variation of that movement, also invented by gymnasts, also used to build strength, but also to develop the neuromuscular coordination required to perform more difficult gymnastic tasks on the parallel bars and on the rings. Therefore, contrary to the dime-a-dozen hater's belief, the pull up wasn't invented in Gold's Gym by the oiled up guy who decided he was sick of the lat pull down machine. Therefore, if you say "those aren't pull ups," you're historically ignorant, and just plain wrong. Now, it's bicep day, so go swing your back to get that EZ bar up.

@Kylenordio10 жыл бұрын
In most complex movements, you have variations. For the clean there is the hang clean, power clean, squat clean, hang squat clean, etc. For the snatch there is the hang snatch, power snatch, squat snatch, hang squat snatch. For the muscle up there is the strict muscle up, the kipping muscle up and gymnastics muscle up. Similarly, as with all complex movements, there are variations on the pull up. The name of the movement itself indicates there are multiple ways to achieve a "pull up." One of those, which the most efficient and clever primates would utilize naturally, is the butterfly, which enables you to do the same work with less energy expenditure. No, the butterfly isn't inherently injurious to the shoulder joint, you and those that are getting injured have immobile and tight shoulders, work on yourself then try the movement. Yes, the strict pull up does require more strength and is better for building lean muscle mass. Is that the sole objective of completing work for time? No.

Exactly right. He's a dedicated worker. Results like this are possible. The culture of believing that there must be a trick, shortcut, and or cheat code need to be eliminated. We should instead start believing in hard work, dedication, and the belief that high goals can be reached w persistence and work hard, as Froning obviously has.

Sallisawcrossfit 3488 It is the truth. Most commonly used forms of PED's can be dosed and managed to keep level below testing positive with 12 hours of time in between. They know that drug test come during certain points in the day and if they dose up shortly there after or in a correct interval it will not be a high enough level.
@Sallisawcrossfit10 жыл бұрын
02Crimson lol. Whatever you say. Rich I can say does not use any illegal ped whatsoever. Like it or not he's just that good at what he does. Hard work and dedication not only to the sport of CrossFit but also to the Lord God has gotten him where he is today. That's the truth.

I love reading all the banter between everyone's opinion. So I thought I would share my own. I come from a bodybuilder background. Yes steroids and size. Last show was 2013. I switch to CrossFit for a change and a new challenge. All I can say is how much both styles of training compliment each other. From bodybuilding I had the strength and size, now with crossfit I have endurance. I've actually been able to increase many of my lifts because of CrossFit. CrossFit uses every possible rep/set scheme, many WOD's are just a different form of a SuperSet. My opinion on Steroids and CrossFit. Well I had to stop using them in order to take my endurance to the next level. The increase in heart size and blood pressure had a dramatic effect on my ability to keep a high heart rate over an extended period of time. 2nd thing I noticed was my "pumps" that I loved using steroids was a huge detriment in CrossFit, mainly in my grip. Hand and forearm pump that was so strong I couldn't grip bars anymore. As someone once told me. To get fit big and strong, everything works, but only for a very very short time. No one know the perfect mix, we are all experimenting.
