Fraud victim potentially connected to USPS collection box with glue trap

After ABC 10News discovered a glue trap inside a USPS collection box in Rancho San Diego, a local resident who used the mailbox found himself a victim of fraud.

It is a gamble to use a mailbox on a street or public area. These days a must to go directly to the post office or pay online.

paying online runs risk of hackers. almost have to deliver mail to addressee in person for complete safety.

I’m glad the post office is addressing this. Mail fraud is unacceptable and needs to be stamped out. Sadly some people do not have a moral code but delivery of justice shall be parceled out. Thank goodness for first class citizens.

Years ago someone stole the drop box at the main Post Office in Carson City. Ever since then I have mailed everything from inside the Post Office. I have Auto-Pay on all of my utility bills and pay just about everything else on line.

People still mail checks?! WHY?! It's so much safer to do it online, as long as you're not an idiot... And why was that box on the sidewalk? I only see THAT type of dropbox in parking lots, because that's the type where you drive up and open your driver's side window and drop your mail into the box instead of getting out of the car.... It's odd to me that they would have that type of box on a sidewalk

I found a sticky mailbox in the San Ysidro po, I thought box was full when I saw a bunch of letters peeking out. I made sure my letter went in along with the rest of the mail. At first I thought it was tree sap that made it’s self inside the box, now I see that’s not the case.

I have not mailed anything with the post office in years due to their incompetence. But I did take a chance about 2 weeks ago and sent a letter to my daughter. It had her new health insurance cards. I put it in my mailbox at my house. Several days later I go and get my mail and in a plastic bag from the post office. It has my daughter letter half of it is missing and so are the insurance cards. So No I will never trust the post office. If I have to mail something I use FedEx.

Years ago I had a cashier check to pay off my mortgage and sent it fed ex overnight and they signed for it but tried to say it didn’t go forward and wanted another check the credit union messed up writing a check that size and canceled it they tried to cash it but it didn’t go through thank god life saving lost in minutes. Sealed and still was stolen .

Security key numbers or Yubikey🔑 multi factor long security passwords screen and user names . A secure place to put the computer . When using mobile device the threat of loosing from theft . Smart phone security updates purposely only good for a few years then spend $500 or more . Someone please say that is easier than making a check out then mailing it .

I always use electronic payment whenever possible, or go directly to the city if it’s utility bill, or as last resort take it directly to the post office. I always use indelible ink pens if writing a check

Some people don’t want to buy computer’s and use app,s and they shouldn’t have to . Checks are not only made out to pay bills either . There is more mobile and home computer scams and thefts than paper mail . Many banks credit unions and companies don’t use up to date theft prevention or know about as in security key’s .
