The better way to compare the two would be shaving the left side of your face with one and the right side of your face with the other. That way, you can actually compare the number of passes each trimmer takes. The way you did it, it made the solo look better than it is in my opinion because you used the one blade to get the heavy hair and the solo to finish it. Both look decent though it sounds like the one blade is more powerful.

This was a most insightful review. I purchased a Micro Touch Solo and was sorely disappointed. First off, I found that it pulls excessively on your beard. As a result, it was too painful to use! Next, which this video pointed out, is the fact that it is only used for dry-shaving. Although I had nothing to compare it to, I also found the motor to be somewhat slow. Certainly, based on this review, I will take a chance and purchase the Philips Norelco OneBlade. I believe the advent of being able to use shaving gel and/or water, will make the world of difference. Many thanks for this great review!

Replacement blades for the MicroTouch SOLO are less than $4.00 each on eBay. $3.44 each. But I have seen them as high as $5.00. So if 2 blades for the Norelco OneBlade are $25.00.....the MicroTouch is the way to go by far! You can get 6 MicroTouch blades for the price of only 2 Norelco blades! Also, the MicroTouch has a quieter motor, that's not any less powerful than the Norelco. The Norelco is not stronger. Just noisier! I have them both. The MicroTouch shaves better and is sharper in my opinion. It also stays on longer than the Norelco does. By 6 minutes. My vote goes to the MicroTouch SOLO. Just a better deal, a better price, and much, much, much cheaper blade replacements than the Norelco! The Norelco can get wet, while the MicroTouch can't. So if shaving in the shower is a must...the Norelco is your best bet. I don't have to shave in the shower. But when I do, I have a Gillette Mach 5 for that, that I leave in there. When I'm just doing touch ups, or morning shaves at the sink, I use my MicroTouch. I gave the Norelco to my roommate. Too noisy for me, and vibrates a lot. Well....there's my opinion. Good luck to you all. :)

I’ve personally invested heavily financially and practically in shaving. Here’s what I’ve found based on years of experience looking for shave I want. (I want the smoothest quick shave without getting ingrown hairs or irritation.) 1) Annually, with daily shaving, the Oneblade will cost the same as buying the Braun Series 9 with cleaning cartridges replacing the cleaning cartridge solution every 19 cycles (I took over two weeks to count exactly how many cycles until the light turns on.) 2) The Philips Norelco OneBlade doesn’t provide the closest shave when “close” is defined by the length of hair protruding from the skin. However, “smoothness” I have found the OneBlade can provide (with extra work) a shave nearly as smooth as a Double Edge Safety Razor. This is all from my experience, not the opinions of others. 3) Using Leftric Shave or another electric pre-shave will make this even smoother. If your goal is the closest shave, the Gillette Fusion 5 should be the winner because it will cut under the skin, but that’s a problem. Cutting under the skin produces ingrown hairs. Don’t get me wrong, the experience of taking a warm shower followed by shaving against the grain with a new Gillette Fusion 5 ProGlide using the Gillette Fusion ProGlide Sensitive 2 in 1 Shave Gel is AMAZING. (Assuming you didn’t break out in ingrowns the next day.) But you know, like I do, that those sharp, amazing shave experiences don’t last very long on those blades. In my experience, the way to get an oil-covered baby butt dish soap lathered slip and slide smooth shave is using a double-edge safety razor. The best part is you don’t get breakouts. It takes time to learn, but I go against the grain nearly everywhere on its face every time I shave and am never disappointed by blade performance. Double edge safety razors are much sharper, profoundly cheaper, and easy to learn.

Just watching you, it looked like the solo required less passes and was more quiet. As an owner of the solo, I generally recommend it, but do not try to take the combs off and on. You will break both the comb and head if you do. It's better to buy an extra head and swap between one that has the comb on it and one that does not.

Thanks for the comparison. Despite the Norelco motor sounding stronger, the Solo seemed to do better on the 1st pass...at least 2 times. You may prefer the Norelco, but I think you were right: for dry shaves the Solo seems better.
@darkwolf14146 жыл бұрын
I've had both of these and hated the Norelco. I bought it first because of the more "brand name" aspect of it. The difference you're hearing between the motors is not strength of motor but the frequency it works at. I noticed in your video that with the Norelco you had to go over the same spot twice to get as clean of a shave as the MicroTouch did in one pass, which is why I hated the Norelco when I owned it. It's wasted time to have to shave the same spot twice to remove hair at that level. I've used the MicroTouch Solo to shave my face and head for 2 years and have never had to replace the blades. I shave my head about twice a week and my face every other day. I'm self-employed so I'm not required to shave daily. Even if I use a regular razor I just splash some water on my face and go to it so being able to use the Norelco with shaving cream doesn't justify paying the extra $10.
@911SuperGT5 жыл бұрын

@@luizmotta2844 Only if you used one of the guards but that won't be short enough. They say you can't knick yourself with the Microtouch or the Norelco but you definitely can. One thing about the One Blade is that its charge "has to" last a lot longer then 45 minutes. It might be worth testing because that thing can go multiple months without needing a charge even though it's used every day or two. Also it's blade just doesn't seem to go dull, and when you replace the blade thinking "Maybe it is, It's been like 8 months..." they feel the same as the old one.
@microplastique7 жыл бұрын
Dereck Sheppard I wouldn't say that it can multiple months without charging ! But it's true for the blades, the new ones feel just like the old ones (also they recommend to change them every 4 months if you shave regularly, I shave once a week so I can keep them much longer)

Thanks for your reviews. I have experienced pretty much the same results you have been reporting I can't believe how close the One Blade actually shaves with out the use of any of the guards. Just about a month ago I discovered that Phillips has engineered a stealthy way to know when your blade is coming close for replacement I cant remember where I saw this information but it was probably here on youtube. Anyway, it said that the flat surface of he blade will start to turn green and when it has filled the entire area then it is time to change out. It seems to be pretty true to it's claim. When the green spot fills the width of the blade, it will be time to replace. The only issues I have with the One Blade is this: I can't seem to be able to find anywhere to buy replacement combs/guards. Also what is the deal with phillips making different charging ports. I think it shows up in the different models thar are available. The one that is green and black and the other is green with a silver or gray power button area. I have one of each and they both have different ports. I have to have the cord that came with it to charge. Lame Phillips. Anyone find a similar issue with the cords? Also, any workarounds or solutioss or ideas to overome this. My solution is to dissamble and swap out with the dead one I have. I hope tthis works.

@fuffy4427 жыл бұрын
1) The difference in pitch is created by the speed of the cutting heads. The higher pitch means faster movement. 2) Stacy is correct. Pulling a razor is much more effective (efficient) than pushing one. 3) Clean your fingernails if you're going to do any hand close-ups (4:27, for example).

As a retired person I don't want to shave everyday so about every 4 days I wet shave with my one blade, if I am going out I use my one blade followed by my Gillette pro 5 blades to give me a smooth finish, so both my blades give me good life and keeps the cost down. Never new the cost of shaving was going to be so expensive the older I got.
@brianmi402 жыл бұрын
Because of the One's blade cost, I'd always finish with a traditional razor. I have a foil Remington that will shave with cream, so would do that, since it's blade will last for years compared to a One being worn out faster with cream. I see some mixed reviews on the knockoff replacement blades for the Solo, but at much cheaper cost, it looks like they are serviceable.

I personally have used both shaving tools. I personally use the one blade. I have to shave daily because of my facial hair growth. Having sensitive skin and shaving dry is horrible. When I trim my goatee I use the comb but it doesn't work well wet when trimming. I have had the one blade for nearly a year and I have changed the blade once. I'm not saying that the solo is a bad unit, but when you can't dry shave because of the sensitive skin, you do what you can. I am very happy with the one blade, using shave cream is as close to a standard blade that you can achieve. I use a single blade safety razor, the kind your father/grandfather used. I also about once a month use my straight razor. I can't find a decent barber that can use a straight razor out here in Vegas. The last guy I knew of and went to for nearly 16 years, has since passed away. I love a good shave with a straight razor. I have been lazy this week and I have double the growth that you cut off in your video. I'm still going to shave in the shower and keep on doing so until I find a better way. Until the day comes that something better than the one blade, that is where I will stay.

Had the one blade for awhile now and discovered it works much better using a pre shave power stick like the Remington pre shave powder stick which I can't find in retail stores anymore but no problem to get online .

Ive used the one blade for three years. The blades last a long time and I really can’t fault it

I use a plastic box to protect my one blade after i broke my first blade after one single use. I broke it while putting the blade in its protective case that come with it. I bought 2 more blades,one year ago and i still use the same blade.I use it with shaving cream. On special occasions i will start with the one blade and finishes the job with a good old mach 3 just to get a baby skin face.

After having a huge debate with myself, decided to give OneBlade a try. I just tried it and honestly It was the best shave EVER after trying numerous trimmers and shavers. I need to emphasize that using one blade with the foam is a must in my opinion(makes the process much FASTER and SMOOTHER), otherwise, I couldn’t find it useful for dry shaving. But that’s my personal preference and might be different for someone else. As far as closeness of the shave, it’s pretty similar to electric razors that I used before and I think it’s because I used it with foam. I just hope this piece lasts and the blades don’t get dull after just a couple of uses. Hope this is helpful, Good Luck!

The MicroTouch Solo's blade pivots on 2 very flimsy plastic tabs that break easily when switching shaving guides. Sometimes while switching guides the whole head came off resulting in a broken tab that resists super glue :-/ Maybe I didn't read the limited instructions properly but it broke within a few guide swaps.

Very nice review. May I ask what you use to shave your head? Have you tried either if these? If o, which do you prefer?

One aspect not covered-the longevity of the motor, battery and heads. Too soon to tell? Well, if it helps, my Philips 3-head [HD7363] rotary razor is over 10 years old but still cuts my tough beard like a champ. I sometimes consider replacement heads or even a new model, but why ditch mine when it still works very well and the battery holds a good charge for days? My experience is that Philips make a _very long lasting_ razor-so it's cheaper in the long run.
