I am an ex infantry soldier then a couple of years in the private security industry, and I have been a professional bouncer for over 23 years! I have trained in a few techniques over the years (some good,some not). I first seen this video a few month's ago and liked the look of it, which is unusual as most if these kind of videos are just a waste of time and dangerous. But I practiced this move for a bit and then have had a chance to use it a couple of time's while working, and I can say if it is done correctly it is very effective. So thank you very much for the video please keep it up!

This is how Fred Mastro's Defense System fares against an aggressive opponent: m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHm6ondjfZWSgrc That's why the US Military and Secret Service, and even Israel, the creators of Krav Maga, are learning Systema, which has been tested and proven in real combat by the Russian Special Forces, who deal with much worse than disoriented drunks.

+pete cwalina It's great to see guys pointing out how most martial arts shows are fake
@stevenlyon43489 жыл бұрын
+pete cwalina the basic idea of it is simple he is creating more force and leverage by turning his entire body into the wrist. the wrist is an extremely complex joint and by its very mobility makes it weak along a perpendicular plane to direction of movement. there is no where for the joint to dump the energy and maintain the grip. In jujitsu we are a similar technique that relies on the same physics. To practice this technique at home focus more on the turning of your hips and shoulders and sweeping your outside (of the direction you turn) leg in a circular motion to maintain your balance.The strength of the technique comes from the large circular motion of your entire body vs the linear force of his arms. 120 lb. body vs 40 lbs of arms. it looks amazing but the math and physics behind why these techniques work is simple.
@jonb8919 жыл бұрын
actually I was able to get it down after a couple times. This technique is very effective. I found that if you step to the outside while your turning it almost becomes a throw and put you in the perfect possession for attack.

I will respect anyone who disagrees, as that is how martial arts will continue to improve, with a healthy dose of debate concerning technique applications. Thanks for posting this video of Guru Mastro demonstrating his hybrid style of Silat. Keep up the good work, and if possible, let's keep training. Stay safe, and...cheers!

I started at an early age and now this is automatic with me. I was a meek pacifist child and often bullied, even to the point of serious injury. The first thing developed was confidence and understanding that the people attacking, bullying me deserved no quarter. My father enrolled me in Okinawan martial arts schools but I've taken a few other kinds. After a while you develop a skill set of what works. I've been attacked by multiple and fared well. This guy is great, his advice and methods are correct. Be thankful I am a nice person and not a bully. When attacked I have left people pretty maimed. This all said I do carry a gun and I know how to use it however I've never been afraid to be without it and have been on the most dangerous streets in the world. Do you children a favor and start their training early. The world is much more dangerous and the most dangerous streets are right here in America.

Note: I've decided to keep posting this because I've seen some of the frenzied, demented attacks caught on CCTV. Attackers in real life come at you like a raging bull, punching, kicking, and slashing wildly. They don't stand in place so practicing on unmoving subjects is utterly pointless. I've learned that the US Military and Secret Service, and even Israel, the creators of Krav Maga, are learning Systema (NOT Fred Mastro's Defense System). Perhaps because unlike sport martial arts (which are strictly for one-on-one and have many moves considered illegal) and choreography martial arts (which might work on dazed drunks), it's been tested and proven in real combat by the Russian Special Forces during war times. How will Fred fare against someone who's been in the Russian Special Forces, who deal with much worse than disoriented drunks? Why not ask Fred why he now exclusively does choreographed demonstrations (needlessly hurting his submissive assistants) after his (super embarrassing) fight against Malik, who was just a self-taught street fighter? m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHm6ondjfZWSgrc (For those who complain about the difference in their size, in a street fight do people fight by weight? For those who say that Fred would have killed Malik if there were no rules, how could he have broken Malik's arms and neck when his punches and kicks had no effect on Malik? In the first few seconds alone, Fred was already on his back and Malik could have pounded his face until he was unrecognizable if there were no rules.) Why did Fred post pictures of ROTC boys on his Facebook page and claim he's training them when most of them were entirely uninterested in him? Did Fred just show up at that place and demonstrated his choreography so he could be in a photo with boys in camo and say he's training military? Why does Fred claim he's training armies worldwide when a simple search will show that it's Russia's military that's being asked by countries to train their armies? Why would anyone interested in self defense spend their hard-earned money on sport martial arts or self-proclaimed gurus instead of what the real experts on the art of war are learning?

This technique has been around for a long time. I worked for 25 years in max prisons and bounced in bars before that. I have seen thousands of real fights and I have NEVER seen anyone actually try to choke someone like that while standing. This is a move that only happens during demonstrations.

@DragonSlayer-tg5mk9 жыл бұрын
awal parinduri Perhaps. I guess out of a planet of billions of people it happens, I have just never seen it and I believe it is extremely rare. The only times I have ever seen this choke used is when someone is pinned against the ground where the attacker can use more leverage. I tried teaching this shoulder-bump technique to my daughters and they were not able to make it work against me. They even tried the windmill technique which uses more leverage than the shoulder bump and they still could not make it work because of my huge size and strength advantage. The ONLY technique they were able to use against me was a finger lock of the small pinky finger. It allows them to use both their hands and weight against my weakest finger. The point I am making is this. You are more likely to get struck by lightning than have someone walk up on you like Frankenstein and go for your throat with both hands. The most common real world attacks are the sucker punch, the tackle, and someone grabbing your shirt with their weak hand while hitting you with their strong hand, like you see in Hockey. I am not picking on this particular Martial Art as they all spend too much time on this low probability attack. They should spend time defending against this choke the way it is usually used and that is on the ground or pinned against something while off balance. Modern Martial Arts should spend more time on the real world attacks I mentioned. Also, many of the knife attacks I have seen come from behind and the victim had 2 or 3 stab wounds before they realized they were being attacked. How many Martial Arts even think about something like that. There are a few, but not many. I am not saying that they should not teach this technique, I am saying that it should be put in proper perspective and this is definitely not the "Ultimate Choke Defense" . The Ultimate Choke Defense would have to be against the Ultimate Choke, not this low probability Frankenstein choke. If this were the Ultimate Choke, you would see MMA fighters using it, but they don't because it is very hard to make work. This choke only works when there is a huge disparity in strength, like you mentioned the elderly and children. But they will be taken to the ground, so what do they do then? The finger lock can work standing, or on the ground.
@ActionHero299 жыл бұрын

+DragonSlayer2014 From Brazil, I agree with you. Two hands choke like that is rare, its a kind of technique for demonstrations, in a realwordl figth never happens. One hand choke while standung is common, but not like that.

Practice grasshopper
@filipezin9 жыл бұрын
+Germaxicus Theres no mystery to it, it's pretty basic and easy. But in my experience, the thumb is always the easiest finger to get hold of. Once you get hold of it, just push it in the direction you feel more resistance (which would probably be in a direction pointing AWAY from you). Many people think they'd panic in a situation like this, but once you practice just a little bit, it becomes pretty fluid and natural. You can even twist the selected finger to add more tension and pain. Or just break it more easily. And also, if you break the thumb, the entire choking movement falls apart. So I'd say to always focus on the thumbs.

I really really want to subscribe here so I'll give some of these things a shot in my own practice and see if they work better then what I've learned already. If they do, a lot of my subscriptions in other places will not only be unsubscribed from but you will have gained a lifeling subscriber here (in addition to people I recommend). Thanks for this video.

In practice, when the defender's elbow moves out/away from their body too much/too soon, the technique is likely to fail. If memory serves, from earlier this evening, the defender's upper arm must not ramp up the attacker's forearm; the humerus needs to be ~perpendicular to the ulna, until the attacker's stance and grip is broken.... Then the elbow can be freed to leave the side of the body, and the arm may come into play, toward following up and creating an opening to exit the situation. Seems that the elbow has to stay down, until the attacker's grip is cleared, first. That was my experience in working with it, this evening. Mastro's upper arm seems relatively close to his body, until the attacker has more or less let go. I'm looking forward to studying this more, in-depth. Thanks very much for sharing this piece, guys.

This is good, there is also the "swim" techniques taught in karate and other arts that will work every time and will put your hands/body in better position naturally.
