Your Rivian charge port is on the left, so use the charger on your most right. That's how you fit in without causing a disruption. I learn the hard way with my Lightning. The adapter is very useful. So right charger is always right, that's the way to think about it.

The information about this (v.1-2 versus v.3-4 superchargers) has been out there for many months. So it should not have been a surprise. Tesla's web site and app will tell you which sites are compatible with CCS vehicles with an adapter. Getting access to Tesla v.3 and v.4 superchargers is much better than not getting access to v.3 and v.4 superchargers--for most of us. For some of us, apparently, this is not the case. So please send me your adapter, and I'll put it to good use.

You can't easily make that since the chargers cable on a >50kW charger is water cooled. But the plug doesn't forward the cooling so the extension wouldn't be cooled. The charger cannot monitor the temperature of the extension cord and therefore this would be very unsafe.

I’m not quite sure what the point of this video was - I clicked it thinking there was an issue with the Rivian adapter, instead it was a lame rant for something that isn’t new. I’ve charged at v3 superchargers before and yes I have to take a spot in the adjacent bay. I’ve likewise charged at v4 chargers where it’s positioned correctly for Rivians. The Tesla app identifies the version type. The comment if the Rivian is your “only car” doesn’t apply to everyone. My R1T is my vehicle, I have a Tesla Wall charger at home. My wife runs a Lightning. Long drives to the city or mountains, I hit up Rivian Network or pull into a v3/v4 super charger. Im in CA, so these are abundant, so mileage may vary in other states. My point here is this video was kinda just click bait.

With the current state of public EV chargers, owning en electric car is painful if you can’t charge at home. But if you have your own dedicated parking spot with at least a 20 amp 240 volt outlet, it easier and cheaper to “fuel” than a petrol powered car. Your adapter may not be very useful right around your house/shop but it will serve you well if you road trip. I’ve stopped at many a Tesla Supercharger on lots of very long road trips, and rarely encounter a station that anywhere near full. Yes, at most superchargers the Rivian will block one stall while using another. And that’s a big problem at a crowded station. But although you ran into a crowded station, and that particular station may often be crowded, the vast majority of Supercharger sites aren’t usually very full.

Do like everyone else in a Rivian or Ford in that location type, back in and it works. Talking about wasting time is on you. Your Rivian did not navigate you to an incompatible charger, you went on your own. I don't mind legit complains, but when you mess up and then complain, it doesn't look good for you. From the start Tesla said 15000 Superchargers. You don't get all 40,000 because they're not compatible. There is absolutely nothing mysterious about this other than you want to complain about something. As for the "busy" station, that is also on you. If you want to use Superchargers, you should have the Tesla app. Easy peasy. The Tesla app will tell you which stations are available with open working chargers in your area. So this kind of waiting becomes rare.
