Alex knows exactly what the cost is if he fails he knows the risk he take and yet he still takes the risk and still achieve what he sets his mind onto. To climb free solo must be one of the most insane things you can do apart from going into war on front line and surviving battles. I honestly think that Alex is by far one of the greatest athletes to walk on earth. Yes he definitely not the strongest, yes he definitely not the fastest, but he definitely one of kind he not like other athletes he special and i wish him the best and i hope he can live long beautiful life have children and grandchildren and tell his grandchildren how bad a** he was back in the day cause he definitely is bad a** dude. No amount of money nothing in the world would make me try free solo you have to be literally one of kind and Alex is definitely one of kind.

I wonder if anyone will attempt El Capitan or Half Dome in Alex's lifetime. Some people have said, well, Alex is not an extraordinary athlete so once the great athletes start to care about it, it may become fairly common. Not so sure about that. If I had to bet, I'd say one or two people will try it in the next decade and both will unfortunately die. It's literally the culmination of a lifetime's work, in combination with absolute physical and mental peak. Just an insane accomplishment.

It's insane to realise that he has never had a single slip or missed hand or foothold on any of his climbs ... ever. Even on his first, most inexperienced climbs. A single slip even only a few metres off the ground and he would be dead. While his achievement is incredible, it would be interesting to discover what is missing in his biological makeup. We are all hard wired to protect ourselves from stupid risks for very good reasons. He clearly has no such risk aversion or inbuilt safety mechanism.

It'd be healthier if we all could be just as impressed if he speed-climbed it without any falls but with preplaced protection in place. How does the risk of certain death add very much but sensationalism? (Say, for example, someone repeats this but without the cameramen and their fixed ropes present on the wall--so no option of easily backing out if he's not feeling it. Would that be even more impressive or just more foolhardy?)

For years the movie crew practiced along with him to make sure they were out of his way, the director and the team were ready to call off the whole project if Alex decided not to do it, AND they finally made the movie which did justice to the extraordinary thing Honnold has done. Comparing what he has dedicated his life to, to a person jumping from building is ridiculously insulting and your comment is the proof that you have practically no knowledge of climbing or climbing community. Basically none of this is in the film - it's a Behind the Scenes video, which it says in the title, which we are both choosing to watch lol. But to each their own.

The movie just didn’t have enough climbing at all and that’s Chai’s fault cause she wanted to put more of the bs drama between his new girlfriend and climbing, just such an overrated movie.. and she was Gifted the role of ‘director’ only because of Jimmy, cause zero people had ever heard of her before this came out and she is absolutely clueless to climbing which is just appalling to the climbing community. Alex was far beyond being kind by letting her be a part of it.. she sounds like a freakin robot zero emotions and just a silly write up 👎🏻👎🏻
