Been using it for some months now. I have to say, I am impressed how efficient the humidifier is. All my other machines would run out of water close to the end of the night. This one, for what ever reason, doesn't. the only gripe I have is if you accidently touch those vents on the side, it shuts off instantly and is a pain in the ass to get started. no matter how briefly or lightly they were touched. also the display is pretty dang bright at night. but I put my cell phone on top of it so it works out.

Phillips just replaced my DreamStation with the DreamStation 2. I used it last night for the first time and don’t have any complaints. The only small issue I had is that the lightweight hose seemed to get tangled around me a bit. I do hope I don’t pull the machine down! Lol. Overall, I really like this . There are a few small things to get used to in how it comes apart, viewing screen, etc. I’m very happy with the replacement and hope it lasts a long time. 🌸🌸

I just got a Dreamstation 2. My first new CPAP in 15 years. Wow have things changed! There's even an app where I can see some stuff about my evenings sleep. I found out about the special menu from another video but am glad you have it in one of yours, too. With it I was able to get my pressures the way I need them to be. 14 is my base and 20 is the top. Most nights my 90% is 14.5 or 15. But every once in a while it jumps up to 17 or 18. I must say I love this machine. It's so darn quiet that my wife thought it wasn't working. I experimented with both CPAP and auto mode and for me auto is a better choice. I've been a CPAP user for 25 years and having the flex setting on 3 has really made a difference in my comfort. I can feel the difference when the pressure releases during an exhale. After using a regular CPAP for so long I've developed a more 'active' exhale so the flex really helps with that. I had no idea that something like Oscar existed but now that I do, I hope it becomes compatible with the DS 2. If I have a complaint it would be that the unit is too light. You can't one hand release the water tank without it sliding.

I posted this about a month ago on another review: 0) NO OSCAR SUPPORT ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnScgKufeJJgmas ) 1) It's a fingerprint magnet, glossy plastic will be scuffed and scratched (making it look dilapidated quickly) 2) Can't use it without the bulky reservoir, not travel-friendly 3) Can't open the reservoir without removing it 4) Can't re-orient the air port 5) Can't take the SD card out without removing the reservoir 6) More complicated reservoir which is harder to clean 7) Humidifier latch is based on flexing plastic, will crack and snap off at some point 8) Modem cannot be removed / disabled 9) Filter caddy has even more unrecyclable plastic than the original Dreamstation Summary: cost optimized design intended for growth markets (developing economies a.k.a. the third world), not the US or Europe in particular

The humidifier chamber finagaling is a dealbreaker for me. I love easy it is to fill up my DreamStation 1 each night, just lift the lid, take out the compartment (or even leave it in) and just pour. EZ and done in 5 seconds. But this would drive me crazy! Too many steps. I would consider this as a solid travel machine though. In fact I may get it for that purpose since the GO doesn’t have a humidifier.

I have had my DS2 for 1 week. It was a swap out from the Phillip's recall. I had a few sleepless nights, with trying to figure out the ramp up that worked for me. It seemed like the pressure was stronger than my old machine. I know it's supposed to be calibrated the same as my old DS. I also needed to play around with the humidity setting. But I think I finally have it on a setting that works for me. One thing I wanted to mention was something that the customer service person at Phillips told me the day after I used it for the first night. She said Phillips is recommending not to use the So Clean machine to clean it. From what I learned from the distributor who sends me my supplies, any CPAP cleaner that uses ozone to clean your CPAP will break down the sound proof foam in the machine. I was also told, months ago, that the DS2 won't have the foam in it. I asked her why I shouldn't use the So Clean, and she didn't really have an answer. I'm curious if you've heard this from anyone else. Thanks for the info on OSCAR. I will check that out. I usually just compare the data on the Dream Machine app and what my Fitbit.

My first night with my newly-swapped DreamStation 2 for my former CancerStation 1 seemed pretty normal. It took a while to learn my breathing patterns and then it was sleep as usual. I like the display being on the top versus the front since I keep it pretty low compared to the bed. Easy to adjust. I like the brighter fill lines on the tank as well.

It wouldn't surprise me if most users don't care that much about aesthetic sleekness, and anyway there's this long white coil hose sticking out? People want practicality above all. The manufacturers are kind of stuck because there's just not much to improve upon where it really counts.
@cammy72663 жыл бұрын
I think maybe if a person has gone from using the Dreamstation consistently and for a time (as I have), to the D2, the latter leaves too much to be desired, too many little things. After using it's predecessor it actually looks like the company has gone backward in design conveniences making the changes more of a big deal and annoyance than might be for those coming from something else. The water chamber for one, with the filter and SD card located behind it (and a small beside table), not to mention the concern over those tabs snapping. Not a problem with the Dreamstation, so much easier and convenient. The swivel may be no biggy for some, but since the port is located on the top of the Dreamstation, it does make a difference, it does move with the sleeper. I could go on. The one thing I think I might like is the screen on the top because of the height of my bed, but that is it. The design of that machine, for me, was perfect and Philips screwed it up. I guess though, I wouldn't be considered the "casual user" since I searched for all info and every detail I could find before deciding what my replacement would be. Still tired, hoping for a replacement soon and could use help with Oscar so you may be hearing from me again once I'm back on track. :)

Just (Feb 2023) got one of these as replacement for the evil Dreamstation 1. I've set it up but haven't used it yet. Overall I agree with your assessment. I definitely noticed the tiny plastic pins the locate the humidifier, I think I can guarantee that they will break sooner or later. And when they break you'll have to replace the whole humidifier unit. Probably a good idea to have a spare humidifier unit on hand, bc it could take 6 weeks to get a replacement. Looks like a dumb industrial design to me. I guess the good news is that they could fix the problem with a tiny redesign of the tank unit only, not the whole machine.
@billyoung77583 жыл бұрын
Just got my replacement yesterday, have not used it yet, wanted to watch some videos before setting it up and using it, Thanks for this one. My first out of the box impression is the humidifier is going to be a big pain in the butt. I use my cpap an average of 8 hours a night with the humidifier on the highest setting, 5, to somewhat avoid cottonmouth (I use full face). As such I always need to top it off in the middle of the night when I get up to go to the bathroom or it will run dry. That's not good, the smell of warming plastic stinks, pun intended. with my original dreamstation the refill is easy and can be done with one hand while half asleep. My other complaint is the location of the info screen, I could always read the original while still laying in bed. When I wake from time to time I like to see what pressure I am getting, a simple press of the big knob gave me that info, could also adjust settings while laying in bed as needed so I didn't wake fully because of physically getting out of bed. As a few others have said, I see this unit as a big step backwards, while it may "look" nicer to some, I personally care more about being user friendly than how it looks, and without even using it yet, it appears it isn't. On another note, I'm hoping I can simply pop the SD card out of the original and use it in the new one, no real info on that here. Thanks again for the video, now off to watch some others.

I like the readout to be on top where I can see it. My CPAP sits on a low bedside table to avoid water getting into the tubing. It works fine, no better or worse than the first Dreamstation. Takes up less space and doesn’t look like a medical device on the night stand. I've had a DS1 for a year and a half. I'm still undecided whether I'll stop using it as I haven't used an ozone type 'cleaner' and I feel the foam may not be as compromised as several forums may suggest (mass hysteria). I am however looking forward as to what my next CPAP might be if I should give the DS1 an early retirement due to the foam. Having watched this video I can say with a fair amount of confidence it likely will not be a DS2. My current setup has the hose to the rear and looped to an overhead hook at the head of the bed. The overhead hook allows the most freedom to change sleep positions without interference from the hose being in the way. To use the DS2 in a similar manner I would need to face the front of the CPAP where the hose exits towards the back of the nightstand. If the hose were to exit in the front of the nightstand and rise to the hook, it would be prone getting caught by someone walking by or making the bed. A 90 degree swivel on the front would have been a better connection strategy to avoid the frontal protrusion. My nightstand isn't very large and has a clock radio, phone, and lamp on it, so space is at a premium and the orientation of the CPAP is limited. With the front of the DS2 and hose facing to the rear of the nightstand, reading the display becomes somewhat a challenge. However the water tank being towards the front of the nightstand in this backwards orientation makes for easier daily fill ups which would have been a pain to remove if it was towards the rear of the nightstand. I would much prefer Philips change out the blower housing on my DS1 with one fitted with a 'safe' foam, rather than downgrade to a DS2 which appears to be of a poorly thought out design. I've only been an occasional user of OSCAR, but I have a gut feeling the move to make the SD card data less accessible in the DS2 may have been a push by healthcare professionals that didn't like the idea of end users tweaking the settings based on suggestions from someone on a forum with questionable credentials.
@cdconover20023 жыл бұрын
I removed the foam from my DS1. It had no appreciable effect on the noise. I never used ozone on mine. Had it for 5 years. No degradation. However the main concern is VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) off gasing. These are carcinogenic and an irritant. Reports state that voc off gasing occurs during the life of the machine from day 1. I just want my machines to have no foam in the air chamber or flow path.

Smaller & lighter is a big plus for me. I travel a lot for work. I do not want to buy 2 machines. Getting rid of the dial & swivel mechanism means less stuff that can break. Whenever I traveled with the DS1, I was worried that the swivel mechanism would break off, because it sticks out from the rest of the machine.

I don’t use the humidifier but on the new machine, it must remain attached for the device to operate. On my old one, just detach it and plug your hose direct to the machine. So my old machine is roughly the same weight and size as the new one.

I've been using the DreamStation 2 for just over a week now. My previous machine was just a straight CPAP. Getting used to an APAP has been a challenge. Among the features I like about the DreamStation 2 include: it runs quiet, the clinical menu is easy to get into, it provides some basic sleep quality feedback, and it doesn't take up a lot of real estate on the nightstand. The main areas I wish were a bit better all have to do with the humidification system. First as you described in the video, the reservoir cover is poorly designed. They should have employed a hinged system. Also, to fill the tank, the entire assembly has to be removed. Maybe it's my newness to the DreamStation 2, but I also feel the humidity controls and the heated tube controls should offer more than 5 set points. Overall, I am happy with the machine, and admit there is much more to learn about it. I look forward to hearing whether or not the DreamStation 2 is OSCAR capable, I would love to see the data the machine collects. Thank you for the great videos you provide, they have given me a great education.

I think it's instructive to consider these machines as compared to smartphones. A smartphone's engineering and value is so much higher, yet the prices are in the same range as a CPAP machine. Advanced microelectronics versus a big clunky old tech circuitboard and a little air pump and water heater.. Once someone designs and builds the board for them, the profit margins are enormous. We are massively ripped off for these medical devices, and we're stuck paying for it because of the built in inefficiency and corruption of the medical industry.

About the foam stuff I posted in another channel in response to just one of many messages like this one "Guess I wont be using mine anymore then...." : Ugh. This disproportionate alarmism may actually cause more harm/death than the foam ever will.

I have the dream station and have been using it for about 3 years. Considering this recall, could you please recommend/suggest an inline bacterial filter that is mentioned by Philips in the recall, for continued use. I tried last night to sleep without my CPAP and could not sleep. I put the CPAP on after a short time when I realized I was not going to sleep. I see Amazon carries the filters, but I have no idea which one to get.
@Tommy_Boisvert3 жыл бұрын
You can take a look at cpapmyway.com/store/cpap-bacteria-filter for a filter to block particles. There's a reference in the "DreamStation Recall Update 3" video from CPAPMyWay on KZbin, so I imagine it's better than using the machine without any filter. I cleaned black powder a few times in my DreamStation, without knowing what it was. When I learned about the recall, I purchased a new machine from Fisher & Paykel (SleepStyle). I'm done with Philips, as I can't accept they used toxic components for the isolation foam. There are two carcinogenic ingredients used in that foam. In the video I refer to, the guy mention that Philips could replace all machines by a DreamStation 2, instead of changing the foam inside existing machines. If it's true, I imagine Philips reduced the cost to a minimum for this new machine, as they will give away millions of them, so I would be a bit worried about the overall quality.
@stevenfelix70923 жыл бұрын
@@Tommy_Boisvert I found in line CPAP filters on Amazon. I was hoping they would be the answer until Philips fixes the problem. They install between the machine and the hose(2 different size ends, so it only goes on one way). Within an hour I had to remove it due to pressure restriction. Others in the comments say the same, but some were ok with the filter. I guess it's just a matter of preference. I am purchasing, on my own, a Resmed AirSense 10 because no one can tell how long Philips will take to resolve the issue.

Those filters need regular, some suggest daily, changing and do nothing about dangerous outgassing from the foam.

My only real complaint is the humidifier chamber. The Dreamstation 1 to open the chamber and fill it is super easy. This you have take out the chamber, then remove the lid to fill and empty it. Doesn't seem like much but compared to the Dreamstation 1 is annoying.

This seems worse in every way than the previous model to me. I don’t want a curved top - I sit my kindle down on mine when I go to sleep. Swivel IS a big deal to me. Humidifier seems annoying. I don’t like the touch screen on the dreamstation go and am guessing it’s just as bad on this one. It seemed like every criticism you mentioned you had to say “not a big deal” - a bunch of “not a big deal issues” and no real advantages… seems like the conclusion should be negative, not positive.
@Freecpapadvice3 жыл бұрын
I was responding to the criticisms of other that I had been consistently seeing online. The humidifier lid attachment is a no-no for me. I like that the LCD faces up, my ResMed occasionally lights up my face like a nuke blast. If it was pointed up like the DS2, that wouldn't happen. Hopefully I explained well the reasoning as to why it's not a "big deal." My Resmed has a swivel....but it never swivels. The sleek design is something that I value, so I like it. To each their own. Also, I wouldn't exactly say it was a raving positive review. I think I said that it was okay for an average user. I wouldn't call those searching and researching these kind of things online as an average user. But I do appreciate your comments. Thanks for watching.

Okay, so here are my thoughts on the complaints. DS1 was great in that you can disconnect the humidifier; For a night or two on a weekend trip... I don't NEED the humidifier, and depending on where I'm going, I may have less space to place the cpap where it's easier to not have the humidifier. The DS1s tube location and functionality seems far superior to DS2. The fact that with the humidifier it pivots, allowing for easier placement on either side of the bed (not considering the power cable), and allowing it to butt right up against the bed as sort of and anchor was a great thing. Its footprint doesn't seem all that much smaller, which is a complaint compared for both DS1 and DS2, where the ResMed is the clear winner. This one may be better than DS1 in that it's more easily kept horizontally across the nightstand instead of front to back., but it's still a chonk. I would rather see a matte black instead of glossy. Make it show less dust, and less prone to micro scratches when it is cleaned. As for size and weight again, while it doesn't count against your carry on luggage when you travel... many still try to put it in their carry on bag. Let's face it, many with CPAPS have meds and other things they travel with... and any extra space or other normal things is appreciated. I think they just missed the mark with the redesign. Oh and for those of use who are a bit anal about things... I hope they send out black tubing with the actual models... the white is annoying to stare at with a black machine.
@kevinbtube2 жыл бұрын
I'm really disappointed that you can't remove the humidifier. I just took a trip where I left the humidifier behind for my DS1. Without the humidifier it is as small as a travel unit. Also, the complicated set of latches and covers on the humidifier is super annoying since you have to pull that every day. If they give me a DS 2 for the recall, I'll be selling it on and buying a different machine. Hopefully they will come to their design senses for the DS 3.

Ok it's a standalone review, but you don't reward a company that has behaved the way Philips has with the foam in prior machines with more business, because you're basically signalling that it's fine to keep doing what they have done. As for the product, is lighter flimsier? WIll it last? I heard the top scratches up more easily. And yeah not being able to see the screen while you're lying down is a disadvantage.

Just received my DS2 after the recall [17 month wait], but must say I am a Resmed S9 person, and always will be. But, while any one change to the DS2 may seem okay, I can handle that... or, if that was my biggest problem..., etc.... There should not be many things that people say went backwards. Clips that break, extra steps to fill chamber, smaller chamber, no swivel. Sure for a new person to this therapy it may seem great. Compared to not treating OSA, these are all minor points. But why not make the machine better, especially after millions of machines are recalled???? Why not make a machine where most say it was improved? Maybe over the years, people will forget about the recall/foam issues, and they can rule the industry.
