It is going to take some work to complete this drill, it does teachers control and balance.

IMHO: It looks like the drill is very unnatural and difficult compared with the (simple) mindful effort of relaxing the recovering arm. ALT: Brushing your thumb to your shoulder on recovery works well--it's hard not to relax when you bend your elbow that much, and it is much more natural to a good stroke rhythm, emphasizing a high recovery.
