2:26 / May 11, 2024 Talli Faye, your fried lemon pie recipe is second to none! I just finished my first batch and I’m here to tell you that there will be many more. I’m from south Louisiana and us “ Cajuns “ are serious about our home cooking. I watch one or two of your videos everyday and that’s no exaggeration. My wife Lillian knows her way around the kitchen and makes a killer lemon pie from scratch that has been the number 1 dessert request by family and friends for holidays and get togethers for 25 years and running. I couldn’t wait to have her try your fried pie when I finished up this morning. Her reaction was priceless . She took one bite and her first words were “ oh my goodness “, then she paused, looked straight at me and said; “ Talli Faye” !! I tried to take the credit ( lol ) but she knew better! My favorite kind of pie is lemon. Those fried pies look so yummy. Lemon in the crust, lemon pudding, and lemon glaze. That is some kind of good. I love watching your videos. When I start to make a dessert my daughter will tell me, don't be scared.

My Mama taught me to add egg yolks to the liquid be it milk for cream pies or water for lemon pies. It eliminates that step of tempering. The egg yolks get acclimated to the heat right along with the liquid and they never scramble. It is much easier. Just a trick my Mama did.

I do that too. I never temper my egg yolks. If you add it to the liquid and very slowly start on a low setting when very slowly turning up heat they will not scramble.

I always love your fried pie videos. So few people know how to make them anymore. The lemon pies they sell at Whataburger taste like Pledge furniture polish. My grandmothers made them with pears grown in their backyards.

To save time and the tempering process, I'm an old woman, lol I have all these years put my sugar , corn starch and salt together and wide to mix well. Then I add my eggs and all the lemon. Thwn ibadd my water slowly and wish well. Then I turn on the heat and slowly bring to a slow boil and thicken the mixture. Quicker and saves me time. I am like you , impatient lol. Must be a southern thing huh ❤❤

My daddy worked so hard for 8 children and moma, I just wanted to have something special for him. You are a Jewel. I'm 75 years young now, never made a fried lemon pie ever! Grandma taught us tricks when she baked desserts and the cookie jar was always full.Visited them daily. They are gone now. Learned about you can with an acre of land growing vegetables, watermelon, cantaloupes, and corn which I loved. Growing up on a farm was great fun as a child in the 40’s. With that tool you can put your dollops of pudding on the dough cover with a sheet of dough or fold the excess dough over to cover dollops and then use that tool to cut and seal all in one 😁 ❤️ I hope this helps I love your videos❤️

I love it that you said all your "tanks are full." So many people call those ponds. Ponds are what they're called north of the Mason Dixon line. Here in Texas the correct term is tanks. It is really nice to find someone who knows what to call them.💜💜💜

You are more accurate with measurements than you know!! Please try one of those silicone mats to kneed & roll. I have the large one ($10-12 on Amazon), you just wet the bottom of the mat & it doesn't move. They have measurements right in them (great for pie dough or making precise sausage rolls), simple to wash & roll up to store. You're such a good cook you deserve the new little things they've discovered 😊 I've had the same press gadget for years, I got it for perogies.😋 But I have a taste for something lemon (hot in western NC this year). I was thinking of a lemon meringue pie, remember when that pie was a testament to how well you cooked? I asked my niece if she ever made one (her mom was never a cook) and she didn't know what kind of pie I was talking about!!🙄 I'll look at your other videos. Thanks for sharing 🤍

Girl, these Fried Pies look so much like my Granny's. She would make lemon and chocolate. It is so fascinating how you are making a homemade lemon curd pudding to go in your fried pies. My granny also used to make apricot, apple, and Peach pies. I haven't had them since I was a kid. She used to tell me how to make them and I never did. I am so happy that you posted this recipe. I have to go and try Fried Pies with this recipe. I need to know how to do apricot and Peach

Talli Faye, You need some cycicone spatulas so you stop leaveing so much egg yolk in the bowls. ;) My Mother was also a fantastic cook. She would roll out her dough & use a saucer or sandwich plate, on the dough, then cut around it for perfect crust shapes. Never used a fork for the edges, Folded the edges & crimped them with her fingers. They were Beautiful! And All the same size. She sold many of them & her other pies in her little Cafe in Jonesboro Arkansas. After watching Talli Faye, I'm going to make a Lemon Pie Saturday. We love it & it's a favorite of my Precious 95 yearl old Friend, Helen.

Hi, I’m gluten free. What can I use in place of self rising flour?

You will think I'm crazy but add a 1/2 teaspoon of white vinegar too your pie filling. It adds just the right amount of pucker too the filling. All my families lived my mothers lemon pies. And same with pecan pies it settles the nuts evenly throughout the pie.
