A good friend commissions moonshiners to create a special funeral whiskey for his own funeral in the future. Using red Indian corn, limestone water and charcoal filtering, they make an expensive yet smooth spirit they will look after and age until the time comes.

Little fact about Native American corn! The corn has been passed down from generations of planting. We keep a batch so we can replant for the next year. My family has different colors stored and plant a one each year. 95% of the time, it's all hand grown, no equipment, just hand tools and muscle.

Depends. If the person died at an old age, celebrate life, but if they were young, it’s tragic no matter how you spin it.
@falrus
@falrus 2 жыл бұрын
In Russia, when someone dies, the friends and family meet 3 times: funeral, 9 and 40 days after death. We don't have fun at funerals, but it's pretty much okay to celebrate the soul getting to heaven at the 40th day.
@maskcollector6949
@maskcollector6949 2 жыл бұрын
@@baddriversofthenorcalarea500 I think that depends as well, some people are meant to die young if they lived full lives already: like if you're in an extreme sport dying doing what you love doing or whatever, I'm not sure that's so tragic as much as a part of their life. New Orleans funerals celebrate death, I hope more people are like this. I had a great great(x a lot) grandpa who threw a huge banquet for his funeral for a ton of people, it was bigger than any wedding. If a person helps more than harms, death should be celebrated - cause it's only the beginning. I agree it's tragic if someone's life is cut short before they're able to contribute anything, basically only a child would I mourn: but if they were like some 12 year old prodigy who helped already I felt like their life was a success and I'd celebrate it. 20 somethings dying doing what they love isn't tragic to me. Raise your kids to be great at a young age. Helping more than harming is essentially the key to the gates, and it's harder to do that early on in life, but not impossible. The sooner you "turn the wheel" per se, the better. Young children without that chance is definitely a true loss.

Really wish they would have talked about the Barrel and Ageing process in this episode. Feels a like a HUGE missed opportunity considering 60-70% of the flavor and characteristics of a good Whisky comes directly from the Charred Barrel and Ageing process. It can litteraly make or break the batch. Thats why the Whisky was clear once they distilled it instead of its typical brown color. In fact quite a bit of work had to go into the barrel itself they could have talked about but, they never even mentioned for some reason. Seems strange..

Central and South Central Pennsylvania has many streams and creeks with limestone bottoms; and quite a few of these are also fed by limestone springs. To fly fishermen, these streams are known for being fantastic trout waters... But after watching this vid, I wonder if in years past, back in a time before these areas eventually became populated, moonshiners ever used any of those limestone springs, streams or small creeks to make and cool their runs of shine or whiskey...

I remember several years ago I was driving through some dead empty road in Tennessee, about 10 15 miles from Newland NC. Came across and sign that looked like something you'd see outside a movie theater just in the middle of the woods. That said something like, "Moonshiners episode being filmed". Thought it was pretty cool and don't know why I'd shared that
