Solitar shows that Frieren really is relatively unskilled for her age. Facing a mage with roughly equivalent mana is difficult for her. Solitar's offense and defense is just straight-up better than Frieren's. It is kind of funny that two of the most learned mages who've studied magic for centuries end up fighting using the magic equivalent of force blasts. No real magic spells, just chucking as much mana as you can at each other.

Indeed. Solitär provides such a great contrast for Frieren. I hadn't considered the fact that they fight like that tho. I really wonder what Serie would think of this fight.

Frieren’s ever so slightly widened eyes in the frame right after Solitar claims to have killed Fern speaks volumes. Even though she has every reason to know that Solitar is lying, the thought of Fern dying hits hard. I think it’s actually the most emotion Frieren has expressed on her face since the time she broke down and cried at Himmel’s funeral.

A lot of great lines in this two chapters. The psychological battle along the magical between Solitär and Frieren is so great. Frieren tried to discreetly acertain Fern and Stark's safety by asking if they were turned into gold (which she can revert back), Solitär saw through it and lied to her, but Frieren in turn knows how demons use lies against their foes.

25:52 Based on how Lugner had described Frieren, I think she saw demons as only prey just as much ever since her village got destroyed, and only gave the demon child benefit of doubt at Himmel's behest. After all she was already charging a blast as soon as she sensed Lugner with no context, about to kill him on sight in the middle of a town square before getting pinned down by guards and only being able to stare with murderous intent. If there ever was a truly good demon that was born with some mutation or upbringing that could be the key to coexistence, I'm sure Frieren would still blast them all the same regardless of what they said, therefore being just as much of a monster in that regard. 27:30 I read a different translation, and I don't think "grieve" is exactly right word there. I think she meant that for the first time in ages she doesn't have to doubt about killing a demon, because Solitar is just that clearly evil, while most other demons would plead for their life as a last resort and she could wonder if there might be a grain of truth in it, and not that she grieves everytime she has to put them down, since she clearly don't.

We hit the weaker part of the mange, which is the spells fighting sakuga. Illustrator Abe Tsukasa sort of fill in some of the fight scene with the two non zoltraak spells as a preset for Frieren, basically is just black & white colouring. Anime took that and turn it up to 110%, since you started reading after season 1 and might not remember, the two spells debuted during 2nd exam, they are the purple looking laser and the rock melting fire within the clone fight. In that chapters both spells are like one panel each, if Madhouse can turn few panels into the crazy fight you watched, you bet when they get to this fight it gonna be as cool if not crazier.

In my opinion - Solitar is a perfect arch enemy for Frieren. I mean her mindgames with words are able to pierce threw even Frieren "i dont care. Die you vermin!" . Also - using magic without staff is something that only most experience mages are able to do. For example - Fern (against Lugner) and Kanne (when monster ambush her) were useless without their staff. On contrast - Serie does not need a staff in fight against Macht to dominate against such scary opponent . It is interesting that Macht is able to feel pride for his student improvement

Your Frieren cosplay looks absolutely fantastic! Great touch on Flamme's earrings. I can't wait for Denken's greatness to be animated. My favorite part about Frieren is how every single mage from the Exam has a pivotal role in the story; none of them are wasted. Can't wait for you to catch up to the Manga. I was jumping up and down reading it last week.

35:55 one of the most major characters died in the first episode. It's entirely possible that she passes at some point and we get to only see her in flashbacks from Fern.

Notsure you noticed (still at like 10:00) but the mana attacks Solitar does is I think the same thing the Frieren clone used on Fern in the Second Mage Exam. Just raw mana waves or something that doens't registr as a spell

CH99 is the chapter the anime creators used as inspiration to pimp up the clone fight getting the spells Vollzanbel and Judradjim from. To be fair if you want to have much engagement on your stream you should make a short reminder clip the day before or so. Also you may search for a timeslot that has the European audience included. So I suggest to take time zones into consideration.

So... this is where delays really started. Between Chapter 99 and 100 there was I think 3 week delay. Which isn't so bad looking at it now, when breaks can take 2-3 months. Also you were slaying this Costume. I believe that's how kids say it nowadays. It was so fun to see Solitar "flustered" for once. She researches human behavior and their magic and technology to such depth... yet her pleas "if she were to die" were sooo basic. This "Oh I see" and look on Frieren's face were precious. One last thing - while I never agreed with people who lumped Frieren into this "Oh, she's just a 1000 year Loli" trope and I did find her attractive, when I saw her with Hair down, looking menacingly at Solitar I fell in love. Such a fantastic fierce look. Also - I hope that KZbin doesn't give you problems with streaming. I should be available regardless if it's Friday or Saturday. As long as it's not some ungodly hour (and given that I often don't sleep, this is almost an impossibility - so if it is like 4 am in the states it might be 9 or 10 am here, which is when I'm most likely to sleep. And I realize that this differs depending on where in the states you are and I don't want to pry you for your location - when I write this comment it's 9:18 pm here in Poland BTW) I will probably be there. Barring some possible issues of course. Take care!

@@lindsayroutliffe Sorry about "US" thing then. Though I was mostly talking about time zones and chance of talking to someone in Canada vs. US is around 10%. Not to mention on the Discord that I am on, Canadians are the biggest nationality from outside US. 4000 people on server. 9 Canadians. I'm Polish and I'm alone. I think there are less "Europeans" there than "Canadians". So my online views on who am I talking to are biased. Sadly. Day stream on Saturday sounds lovely.
