These were designed in the days before most people had air conditioning, though some people used them in conjuction with their air conditioning. The idea was they would force cooler air up and evenly distribute it around a room. They were usually placed in the center of a living room or den, so everyone sitting in the room had equal air circulation, without a strong draft. They had a very niche market, but they were very effective when used properly.

They should've called this "High Velocity Fan in a can"

Fan in a Can. That should be a trademark right there. I'd like to get one of those. I look forward to seeing you service this one and restore it back to its original glory, breathe new life into it. Also, at 1:37, excuse you.

That thing looks real cool. Even if it really doesnt make much sense in most cases thanks to furniture being in the way etc. Real beefy bladeset on it.

I dont really understand why these where made, like i get you want to circulate air near the floor but a floor fan does the same.
@TechnologicalHeritageКүн бұрын
It’s because these were popular before and during the rise of air-conditioning. Cold air always settles to the lowest point, so these suck the cold air off the floor and distribute it in a 360° radius around the room. I use one during the summer and it actually does do a good job at making a noticeable cooling effect. A floor fan could also work, but they are pretty directional and they don’t spread the air around evenly.

The model number is likely CC12G The switch knob comes off by squeezing the little white clip on the back of the switch inside. The knob goes through the switch, Opposite of more common designs. I use my hassock fans to circulate air conditioner air in medium/large rooms as it settles to the floor. It's likely made mid 70s. Frigid fans always looked a little dated. I always liked the blades Frigid used, and they are usually in excellent balance. Fasco motor says permanently lubricated, but alot of times they have oil pots on the edge of the end bells anyway lol. Funny how Frigid didnt remove the studs off the back of the motor. Was likely used in other fans they made. Cool. I'd be pretty happy with this find, personally. But I like hassock fans. They are kind of designed for just low draft air circulation. If you tested it on the floor, you may notice alot of air goes right upwards.

I figured there was a secret handshake to get it off, which is why I didn't want to force it. I'll have to test it upstairs in the living room and see how it performs there, perhaps it would be useful near the couch. It's not to say I don't like the fan, but it certainly wasn't worth the effort it took to get it, especially when it surfaced instead of something sought after to me.

In short, simple terms, this fan was designed to circulate cool air from the floor in an even 360° pattern. Used with an air conditioner provides even better cooling effects and prob saves a few pennies.

I've owned a few of these hassock fans , you pretty much stated everything these units do.. It's kind of like a ceiling fan but in reverse, they basically just move air from underneath and push out in every direction in the room . That's pretty much why they have longer power cords, The performance does its work in the middle of the room .

It would probably work a lot better if the blade stuck out below the venturi, which would mimic the way it is on the Gyro-Aire, Windmere, and Sanyo Turbine, all of which perform with excellence. O, and the model number is under the switch knob.

I agree, the aerodynamics aren't the best on this. I will need to remove the knob at a later time to identify the model.

@irenefernader5058Күн бұрын
I've never seen an old fan like this one before and I'm thinking that it probably needs a ball jointed socket gasket instead of one with oil and this kind and a lot of dust is supposed to make this fan rotate and power on and maybe you should get another mounting bracket and install this fan up on the ceiling fan, the floor and the wall in your living room just make sure it's bolted up there right so it won't fall. You can even use duct tape.
