The brickwork bond is Flemish Bond. Stretcher, Header Stretcher. EVERY COURSE. Garden Wall bond is the terminology used for a garden wall. Which is only bonded every 5 or 6 courses. And English Garden wall bond as suggested, is a course of stretchers for 5 courses and then a complete course of Headers after 5 courses. I'm an old builder when we paid attention to 9" walls 14" 18" and 24" thick walls. Sorry to pick up on the detail. Great videos 👍

Is there a demented sound engineer somewhere in the British Isles that has convinced innocent video makers that they actually know what they're doing?? (Rhetorical question) There is now a whole series of these wonderful construction and design videos that is essentially ruined by the voice-overs dropping in volume, and the accompanying music swelling in volume, making it difficult to try and hear the voice-over....Drives me crazy! It is so stupid that these videos were actually released without this being corrected! Maybe the whole production team is incompetent?!?? It's maddening!

The lady in this first build reminds me so much of Donna Noble! I swear this must be Catherine Tate's younger sister! I like these programs too, but it seems like nobody realizes that this channel is just recycling old programs that are way past their TV days. People seem to comment as though they think that this channel had something to do with building houses! Although the builder is a jewel! He's a Jack of all trades, and what he's done by himself is amazing! But why oh why can't the brits embrace the idea of built in closets!

I hate this UK thing of having a door with no covering, no porch, no enclosure, just exposed to wind and rain, often with the door opening directly onto the public pavement and no shelter in front of the door and nothing stopping the weather beating against the door. So cheap-looking. I can understand you have no excuse in some old cottage that's had a road built right up to the front hall carpet, but in a new build? No shelter, no sense of security or arrival, just a door in a wall? Crap quality, cheap, tacky. Exactly like a caravan, in fact. And as for having no soffitt, a house without eaves is like a head without ears. It just looks wrong. And again - incredibly cheap, like 'We need to save some money!' 'I know, let's not bother with any eaves but just chop off the roof right at the gutters! That will save us a whole 79p.' It would have looked much more like a real, permanent house with eaves twice as deep as those (what they call a 'sheltering roof' in A Pattern Language). Proper eaves would also shelter the windows as well as the door: without eaves, the windows get the full force of rain and have to be washed after every rain. With the light hitting the windows as much as they do, they will show every water spot and all the dust and every speck. Overhanging eaves would have sheltered the windows, filtered some of the harsh sunlight, and kept the windows clean, while offering a sense of shelter, safety and hominess to the oustide. It looks very much like what Americans call a double-wide mobile home. In other words, a fancy caravan, only larger.
