This is interesting. Self-concept is where I start with nearly all of my clients. It’s like the flag post on top of the mountain- otherwise they have no idea what they should aim for. And as we go through the journey, they clearly can see where the internal conflict comes from - when what they’re doing doesn’t match up with their values.

@DamonCart3 жыл бұрын
I started at NLPU. I did their practitioner, master practitioner twice (I was a resource coach for the second one), and I did their trainer training. I did practitioner twice with the NLP Institute of California (once as a resource coach), as well as their hypnosis and master practitioner training. I did a training with Richard Bandler on hypnotic repatterning. I also did Connirae Andreas's Coming To Wholeness Training, which is what led me to meeting Steve Andreas who mentored me for years before he passed away. I also did Core Transformation with Mark Andreas and Metaphors of Movement. Other people I've trained with have been L. Michael Hall and Doug O'Brien. It seems like I'm forgetting a few but that's who comes to mind. There are too many things to mention that are being taught in NLP incorrectly. I've made several videos about them. Stick with the Andreas', my stuff, and John Grinder (he's difficult to deal with and to read and listen to but very accurate). Bandler is all over the place and hard to learn from but brilliant. I'm sure there are others out there who are really good. I just don't know them all.

I've talked about procrastination in many of my videos. You can use the Swish Pattern for procrastination. You would do it the same way as swishing anything else, but if procrastination for you is not a compulsion, it might not work. Treat procrastination like resistance. Elicit the positive intent of procrastination and integrate it into whatever it is you're wanting to do that procrastination is keeping you from doing.

Great video & love any tips on how to boost sustainability when you use a model like this✨.. Will you be giving any more detail on how to implement the swish pattern with the self-concept model?
@DamonCart4 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I'm not sure what you mean by sustainability. Do you mean how well the changes you make stick? For your second question, the Self-Concept Model is a model. The Swish Pattern is a technique or process. When I use Self-Concept it's for the purposes of transformation at the level of identity, which goes far beyond making a simple behavior change. The Swish Pattern is really about making a simple behavior change, but Steve Andreas realized that the reason why the process works so well is because it uses your self-concept. This was a clue that inspired him to create the model. So you don't implement the Swish Pattern in the Self-Concept Model necessarily, but they share a commonality, the generalization you create called self.
@artofnavigation77844 жыл бұрын
Yes by sustainability I meant how well the changes stick. Thanks for your explanation on how the Self-Concept Model and swish pattern tool share a commonality..
@DamonCart4 жыл бұрын
@@artofnavigation7784 the only reason the changes won't stick is if there is any resistance that goes unaddressed. As long as you check congruence for any resistance and integrate the resistance if there is any, the changes will stick.

Is a compulsion and a phobia the same, or just similar?.. was just thinking about this technique and the fast phobia process
@DamonCart4 жыл бұрын
Similar process but different behavior. A compulsion can be for something like binge eating, binge drinking, simple habits, etc.; something you're compelled to do or compelled toward. A phobia is an overreaction to a threat that either isn't real or doesn't pose the risk or danger to justify the intensity of the reaction. Both are the result of being overly associated. Compulsions are usually an over-association in the present. Phobias are an over-association into a past traumatic experience.

I've also bumped into Grinder because we both live in Santa Cruz and have exchanged emails with him (that didn't go well). Damon, for any change that needs to take place, initially it has to take place at the conscious level, before it gets into our unconscious level.. Isn't it?
@DamonCart4 жыл бұрын
It's actually the opposite. Your unconscious makes up more of your mind than your conscious does. Your conscious awareness is probably about 20% of your total mental capacity. Think of your conscious mind as the captain of an enormous ship that take many people to run it. Changing course depends on the conscious decision of the captain, but it really can only happen by the actions of the crew (unconscious). You can change and not even be consciously aware of it. Have you ever had more than one person comment that something about you has changed until finally you became aware of the change?
@manidas47894 жыл бұрын
Damon... Agreed. The change occurs at unconscious level. Now consider an example. I had a weight issue. My weight kept increasing till I felt it would just explode. Then in 2018, I made a conscious effort to do research, and planned a program of my own. Within a year I lost 16kg. Yes.. The change went in to unconscious level that I am very much aware of my eating pattern. At the same time, I had a target of 10kg more, but past one and half years, my weight has stalled as I have not given " Concious" Effort to stick to my plan. I agree for any change, it has to be in the unconscious level... But how do I do it? If I do the swish method, seeing myself as confident, persistent, have integrity towards any work that I uptake... How will that image of mine help me not to go for that chocolate, until I make a concious effort not to touch it? This is where my confusion lies
@DamonCart4 жыл бұрын
@@manidas4789 You can do the Swish Pattern for this. The compulsion image would be the moment you feel that you can't resist the chocolate. Then you swish the image replacing it with the ideal you. The result that the Swish Pattern creates becomes more powerful when it is unconscious because you don't have to consciously negotiate about whether or not to eat the chocolate. The ideal image of yourself unconsciously directs you toward wanting to become the ideal you rather than eat chocolate. The Swish Pattern is an amazing quick fix. Though it is considered a piece of identity work, it's tiny compared to the work we do with Steve Andreas' Self-Concept Model. The Swish Pattern will not solve everything, but anything can be resolved with enough work on your Self-Concept because your reality is a product of your Self-Concept.

@DamonCart4 жыл бұрын
In general it's easier to have someone guide you through a process than to apply it to yourself. I wonder if this might work better as a kinesthetic Swish. What triggers you to pull your hair? Think about the last time you did it and trace backwards until you find the very moment when you felt compelled to pull your hair. What happened right then? What did you see, hear, and feel? That's your compulsion reference. Swish that down or away while you swish up an ideal image of yourself not doing any particular behavior and not in any particular context. You might try coming up with an ideal kinesthetic like something tactile and/or proprioceptive that feels like you've already solved this issue in place of the ideal image. Let me know how it goes.
