TEDx Talks

3 жыл бұрын

An inspiring and motivating speech on how you can be creative in the modern business world. This talk is given by a man who has been fronting one of the world's most successful metal bands - Iron Maiden.
The speaker and TEDxMalmö have permission to use the third-party content in the video. Bruce Dickinson is the lead singer of Iron Maiden. Iron Maiden is an institution embodying fearless creative independence with a following that spans every culture and generation. Their latest album “The Book Of Souls” (2015) went straight to No 1 across the world in 24 countries, becoming their fastest ever selling album.
In 2012 Dickinson set up Cardiff Aviation, an aircraft maintenance company, which amongst other things, signed an agreement with the Djibouti government to help re-launch their national airline. Dickinson has also invested in the world’s largest aircraft: a hybrid of a plane, balloon and hovercraft, the Airlander 10. He has also created an aircraft fleet as a one-stop solution for airlines to use.
In 2013, Iron Maiden collaborated with Robinsons Brewery in Stockport, England to create Trooper, a 4.8% cask/4.7% bottled ale whose recipe Dickinson formulated with head brewer Martyn Weeks. As of May 2014, the beer has sold 2.5 million pints in 40 countries, making it Robinsons’ most successful export.
Dickinson’s list of accomplishments seems endless and are continuously growing. He has been described as a polymath and now brings together all his creativity and experiences to share with audiences around the world. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Can you imagine what it is like to Captain a 747 for long hours, the concentration it takes, staying alert and awake. And then that evening get on stage and do a 2 hour set. For month after month. The man has the fitness, drive and stamina of no one else on Earth. Truly legendary.

Yes and no as he has two other pilots so they take breaks and modern aircraft fly auto pilot 90% of the time. Solo piloting small aircraft is very demanding. Your praise for Bruce us noble but he's not some superman he's just had time to work with personal trainers and dieticians.
@MrBillUp
@MrBillUp 3 жыл бұрын
@@glennoc8585 He has his own FO and another complete backup crew as do all long haul flights. And depending on what plane, an engineer. Of course he is not flying the plane constantly. And to say you just kick your shoes off when the Autopilot is on is disingenuous. It still takes huge amounts of concentration to monitor the gauges, flight plan, fuel flow, distractions from the rear, sterile cockpit below 10,000 feet. You have to be 100% on the ball the whole time. So yes he isn't flying the plane constantly, and I would have thought if he has a 2 hour show on consecutive days, the relief crew take over. I know he is not "superhuman", but to fly a very complicated aircraft like an older 747-400, and then to do a 2 hour set, jumping and running around on stage as he does, well he is unbelievably fit, strong willed, well trained, and legendary. If you were to say to me, tell me someone who you think is superhuman, I would say Bruce is a great example.
@glennoc8585
@glennoc8585 3 жыл бұрын
@@MrBillUp Not playing it down but the 747 that he was flying would have had the full instrument upgrade. I would've thought he'd have had a captain as copilot with their budget and an FO for change over. I'd be surprised if Bruce would do a show after being PIC on a long haul without a nights sleep. He was fitter back then he doesn't fly the heavies i believe he just flies on a ppl these days.

He's driven and successful but I've met quite a few guys like Bruce over the years. Being in a band have Bruce the financial means to go on to other things and expensive pursuits. I know a guy that is s businessman, pilot of helicopters and fixed wing and also plays in a cover band. Sure not the fame and fortune of Bruce but still a rich guy. It's doable if you're driven and get a good start from an early age.

I am a long time Iron Maiden fan, I listened to them with Paul Di' Anno. When Bruce debuted in the Number Of The Beast album in 1982 it was one of my greatest music listening experiences I have ever had. I remember standing in line for 2 hours waiting to buy the record, at that time Iron Maiden had no radio air play on the US. And When I went home to play the record with my friends, we were all blown away. I have been an Iron Maiden fan since those days and I still listen them.

As a metal fan, Bruce has always represented us well. I have always admired his sheer will and determination and his strong work ethic. I was them once and it was apparent Bruce was quite sick. Yet he preformed the entire concert and had to be carried off stage. 2 days later he was hospitalized for pneumonia. Only a doctor could keep Bruce from a stage. While many younger performers won't perform if they get a hang nail.

What a presentation from Bruce, when I was listening all that he was exposing, came into my mind some thoughts from people in our brilliant history, some of those thoughts are: “ ”. “How do you know where you’re going if you don't know where you came from". “We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give”. “With age comes wisdom”. “Success will come when the conditions are right”. “Failure is part of the development”. ‘’’. “Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist”. “A defeat is the secret ingredient to success”. OK, not all of them came into my mind, but I think it's important to be mentioned.

Interesting. Whilst I only really watched this because I am an Iron Maiden fan, I did get something out of it. The last few minutes about determination and getting over that ONE obstacle and you WILL succeed; I think that is applicable to most people whether you are an entrepreneur, someone on the corporate career ladder or struggling with your own personal demons. Nice one Bruce!

Can't listen and learn from a better example of talent, resilience and success. Bruce is a shining human being, powerful and creative, but also with this humble acctitud, cool mood and down to the ground personality. Barely few people to admire more. THANKS FOREVER MASTER POCAS PERSONAS HAY EN LAS QUE SE LES PUEDA APRENDER MÁS, ESTE MAESTRO REÚNE CREATIVIDAD Y UNA PODEROSA
