More Rosa the Knife than Mack the Knife, the song written by Kurt Weill in which she is mentioned.
@Elitist20 Жыл бұрын
When Weill died in New York in 1950, she was alone. There's a story about Kitty Carlisle Hart going over to visit her after she called to say 'Kurt has died.' When Kitty arrived at her apartment she found Lotte standing in the hallway, holding a piece of sheet music, and saying 'Kurt is dead. Nobody likes me. And I can't read music.' Her 1920-30s voice had been a normal soprano, but with her smoking and her getting older, it had become the raspy voice we now associate with her. She had to develop a way of speaking/singing to perform the Brecht/Weill songs and help to keep them alive.
