Welcome to my cottage kitchen, let's make pies from scratch today. Making Cream pies always reminds me of my Grandma's kitchen, she was an amazing pie maker. Today I'm going to show you how to make pie crust by hand and how I make granny's cocoa cream pie, maple cream pie, and a banana coconut cream pie :)

Slow living isn’t a trend for me. It's a lifestyle I have embraced for years; I learned it from my mom and grandma. We always just took our time to enjoy the beauty of the everyday. I’m a romantic at heart, with a practical lifestyle approach to “keep it simple.” I grew up on a farm, which furthered my love of simplicity and back to the basics mindset.
We moved six months ago to our cozy cottage, and we are in the process of fixing it up. I strive to make our home cozy and inviting no matter what remodeling stage we are in. Making a home hygge and cozy is just a normal way of life for me, and I can’t imagine it any other way.

It is a real joy to watch you make pie crust, your presentation is methodical, straightforward and no nonsense. You don't harp or belabor any issues and go quietly about your business, you are the best kind of teacher. Almost no pie crust teachers ever admit to rolling out the crust immediately after making the dough but quite often that's what many of us have to do. They always insist that the dough disc has to be refrigerated for at least 30 minutes before it can be rolled out but the fact is , we live in an imperfect world and don't always have time to do that. You are such a sensible down to earth person. The proof is the timeless beauty of your pie crust shells. Even on video it's very clear that your crusts are flaky and tender. Thank you so much for sharing your technique, this video is a real keeper.

The pie crust scraps … we used the same way except we used soft butter spread in the pie dough once rolled out, cinnamon sugar… rolled up like cinnamon rolls . Cut small and baked. We called them “crust-oooos”. Delicious and easy to carry outside. My mother was wise about messy fingers. Pies are wonderful Abby Jo!

So many memories of my mom making pies. She used to be a baker for a local restaurant, made pies and cakes at home so she could be home with us as children. Whenever we went to a family dinner she always made at least 5 or 6 pies, all different kinds. I still have her pie carrier that my dad made for her, a wooden one with shelves and a handle top. You make it look so easy but it takes talent. We just lost the pie maker in our family my ex mother in law Arloa and she was my good friend to. I so miss her black raspberry pie and mince meat pie so much!!! Along with her my daughter Bethany Arloa misses her so much to. We were talking about her pies and said she said she missed helping with pies she did I from when was little when she watched her while I was working. Oh so yummy! I so miss my mom’s choc cream pie! We always put on merinque topping and baked til brown. I would always sneak in and tear a sm bite off the merinque and my mom would throw a fit! It became an ongoing prank every time she made one! Thanks for sharing the old time recipe of making the filling on the stove. Later on mom switched to box pudding and it was never the same! I have yet to master this pie and am looking forward to trying your recipe! Thx! ❤❤❤

A tip I read in an old cookbook for blind baking: put another pie plate directly over top of the pie crust and bake. I haven’t tried it yet, but it’s so much easier than using beans!

The cinnamon/sugar treats bring back the sweetest memories! 🥰 My Mom would roll out the “extra” pie dough, then spread melted butter, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, roll it and slice into little bites. I used to make them for my kids too. I need to make these for my grandchildren now. Thank you from my heart. Time to start baking precious memories again.

This was fun! I don't have a good chocolate cream recipe for pie. I will definitely try yours! I love the leftover pie dough done the way you did it, with cinnamon and sugar. My Mom used to do that for us, and I still do it today. They are delicious! I find that even brushing the dough with milk instead of butter works well. I use the one pan method to make my butterscotch pies. My mother-in-law gave me her Mothers' Better Crocker cookbook from the early 1930's. I love the basic recipes. Love your video's and I share them with my two sisters.

Bake at 375 for 20min with pie weights. Then remove the weights and bake for an additional 10-15min. My oven runs hot so I do 350.

Can you please tell me were you got that double boiler. I love. Im a pie maker but ive never made a pie crust. I try but fail all the time. But i love coconut cream and chocolate pie. I do love making the custards in the long version. Way my mom used to do it. Thank you

I bought that double boiler at a thrift store, it’s a treasure to me 🥰 pie crust can be tricky, I find that the more I do it the better I got. My grandma always made it the long way too ❤️
