Thanks Larry for the content. Regarding the venting of hot air from the engine bay. Leave all the rubber trim at windscreen cowling. This is a high pressure area and best to leave trim intact to avoid high pressure air at base of windscreen push into the engine bay and slow the removal of hot air from the vented hood. This info was from a few years ago on the FRS/GT86 forum.

Larry, I loved the video content and the format. I've been on my own track car build for several years and have gone through similar issues. This insight was great and the build is amazing. I followed you for some time now and I'm really happy to see you get back on track.

The seat to base thing is definitely subjective to each driver - I've never needed to do that but I know plenty of other guys who prefer it, good seat choice btw. Love going back to videos like this for ideas

For over the top weight savings, you might want to consider a carbon roof replacement (you need to remove the spot welded roof skin, but it does NOT compromise the integrity of the cars frame), you might also want to consider carbon door panels interior or exterior, the interior ones are about 700, and they retain the window and door handles, but make tons of space by removing the armrests and cubbies

Love it! Could you do a video explaining the differences between building the gr86 for track, time attack, drift, drag (i know ours isnt built for that but curious), and whatever motorsports this little rocket can do.

I think Japanese 98 Octane is that other scale, so it’s equivalent to 93 Octane in the US

Removing the rubber stripping at the back of the hood would have the opposite to the desired effect on cooling. The top side of the hood at the windscreen is a high pressure zone whereas the underside of the hood is stagnant low pressure air meaning the extracted hot air from the vents would just get sucked back into bay. Sort out some ducting behind the bumper to force the air into the cooler/radiator and that should fix the coolinhg issues.

love the global sensor camera you have mounted on your cage! cant wait to get my hands on global shutter on a mirrorless system will be ground breaking!

heat treat or wrap your headers and a turbo blanket, gold reflect tape, bigger inter cooler.
@zdr935238 ай бұрын
You’ll need to duct the front end to the radiator to ensure that all air that enters the grille is forced through the radiator and cooler. That should solve the cooling issues once and for all.

You'll also run into some fueling issues in the 86 if you intend to wheel-to-wheel race the car that you probably won't experience in a time trial session. Feel free to contact me for some build guidance.

Having tyres that wide might actually make you slower on track unless you had much more power, something to be aware of. Especially on sticky rubber like you run and I assume the wider rims. Try doing laps with 2 sets one 235 or 245 and the others you have the 265 and you will probably see the 245 is faster and feels better to drive. I've been around a few 86s that have gone super wide and then ended up back at 235/245 because it's better to drive and actually quicker on track.

GReddy also done a lot of nice kits over he years that were OEM friendly, particularly Honda/Acura. It was cool you could get a dealer installed turbo kit on a brand new Integra GSR and still retain the warranty.

The foam filters, not a fan of. I've extracted a few of those from plenums of various engines. They look cool when they are clean tho.
@ne150n6Ай бұрын
HKS'"mushroom head" filter needs to be replaced over time. If not replaced after prolonged use, it will deteriorate. I understand that the replacement frequency may vary depending on the usage environment. For the Green filter needs replacement every 6000km to 10000km. Red filter is less, 3000km to 5000km.

I have a bone stock '23 BRZ and my fenders get EXTREMELY hot after a drive on a hot day (90+ degrees). The hood definitely gets hot but the fenders get so hot I can't believe the paint hasn't bubbled yet. Anyone know what's up with that? Oil level is fine, temp gauge is always perfectly normal etc.

I’m sorry, but I’m just not that impressed with those kind of power numbers. You’re adding a massive upgrade (N/A to boosted application) and you’re only getting 366hp to the crank (+130hp to the crank) and 294ft/lb or torque (+104lb/ft). The reason why I say I’m not impressed is because your engine is a 2.4L. For a 4-cylinder, that’s actually decently large. My 2017 2.0L-turbo 4-cylinder GTI came with 210hp to the crank and 258lb/ft of torque. With a Stage 2 tune, the power was bumped up to 366hp to the crank (+156hp to the crank) and 390ft/lb if torque (+133lb/ft). Those are better numbers than yours, with just a tune. Going N/A to boosted should net a much higher number than just tuning an already turbo’s vehicle. On top of that, my GTI has a smaller engine. So its numbers should be lower. But they aren’t. So no, I’m not that impressed with your numbers in the HKS turbo setup on your GR86. Cool car but still gives me “slow Toyota” vibes.
