The front mount is also a good way to prolong the life of the motor and turbo itself. The biggest enemy of any engine, especially one that's boosted is heat. While a top mount is better than no intercooler at all. Like you pointed out it's still a producer of heat because of where it sits on top of the motor.

I said that I wouldn’t go back to a TMIC but after having to change out the core 1 time and always having to adjust for boost leaks I went back to a ETS TMIC and it works really well it does get the proverbial heatsoak but not nearly as much as the stock TMIC..The ETS TMIC is head and shoulders above the stock TMIC plus I’m running a CS CST4 Turbo and the spool is instant..as for me I don’t miss my FMIC at all.
@NewOrleansSpeed7 ай бұрын
After many “revisions” i see the value in just going upgraded top mount lol. So much easier overall, and the cons compared to the FmIC are minimal at that

If youre running the stock turbo or slightly bigger turbo like the cs4 then turbo lag wont be noticeable between top mount and front mount. If tuned correctly, it's hardly noticeable..this i was told from a reputable tuner for this platform

con 4 for FMIC...cost. replacement TMIC is like ~$500. FMIC is ~$1000. those prices could vary depending on manufacturer (like...cobb vs ebay). but cost is still an issue.

twinklinglicin good comment! Depending on the brand you are right. Replacement couplers and piping for the fmic is way more costly then some boost tubes for the tmic. But that being said i got my whole kit fmic for $250 which was a steal.

Thanks for this vid. I'm tired of stressing over BATs with my CS TMIC. Works well on the highway but in most other conditions in my hot climate it heatsoaks like a mofo and that can't be good for engine/turbo health in the long term, IMO.
@NewOrleansSpeed5 жыл бұрын
F0untain that is exactly how I felt! That’s why i went for the change. The car just felt so dead in the heat unless it was on the highway. The fmic is much better in the heat staying pretty close to ambient during pulls. But if you live in the south, like me, it’s hard to get cold air in the summer lol

@NewOrleansSpeed4 жыл бұрын
Geronimo Jr i would just get a top mount then, it’s easy to do and the benefits are immediate and noticeable. I would consider doing an egr and/or coolant bypass mod as well, as that will help with keeping the car cool in the summer months. Especially if you are in traffic and the car idles a lot.

Just ordered this kit aswell, i mostly got it because i want to prevent heat soak this summer! Any thing i should look out for when installing? Other than a really tight fit? TIA
@NewOrleansSpeed5 жыл бұрын
Speed3 Paco did you get a different core? When it come to installing it makes sure there’s a buffer between your pipe and your ac line. I had a hole in an ac due to contact with intercooler piping. You also need to shave the sides of radiator support. It helps free up space because otherwise it’s a super tight fit with some rubbing.
@NewOrleansSpeed5 жыл бұрын
Use hairspray on the couplers. It helps the couplers stick to the pipe, making a better seal

@NewOrleansSpeed4 жыл бұрын
The kit has held up well! Had it for a few years now and have run across a few issues. You need to make sure the piping does not touch your AC line! Costed me $80 for a new AC line and $80 for a ac refill. I also bought two, slightly longer 90 degree silicone couplers since it was such a tight fit around the radiator support. Make sure you get brackets, and don’t use the CX racing bov

@@NewOrleansSpeed Good tips, much appreciated. Do you happen to have the source of the couplers that you went with? I briefly watched Randy @ Five and Five Garage and I think he mentioned about doing some sort of insulating wrap around that AC area but will keep it on my protips -todo list. =D I have a Gen1 and while I am looking forward to the project about as much as cleaning the valves and doing the injector seals, but I think the effort will be worth it in the end. lol

One thing I noticed you didn't talk about was how much surface area of both FMIC and TMIC setup is actually getting air. A top mount usually has air hitting the entire surface area of the intercooler and front mount's don't unless you're driving around with no bumper.

Brad Elliott meth is good too! But I wouldn’t know as I don’t have it lol, but I’ve heard it’s great for temps and carbon. And it’s very easy to get gains without a tune on these cars, granted a tune makes a whole world difference, but a full intake and downpipe makes a noticeable difference too. I remember adding my full intake on my otherwise stock car and it felt way quicker, but i didn’t dyno it so idk
@Bc-um9qx5 жыл бұрын
Well ya you will get gains I wanna clarify that your going to end up zzb with no tune and a down pipe and a intake because your going to be flowing more are without more fuel
@ras47826 жыл бұрын
What you mean about lag
@NewOrleansSpeed6 жыл бұрын
ras 47 air flows quicker through a top mount due to the path the air must take. In a front mount the length of the pipe is 3 to 4x that of a top mount. That added distance takes more time for it to travel causing slight lag as opposed to the top mount.
