Great review! I recently purchased the X-56 to replace an aging CH Pro Throttle with a flakey mini-stick, and I am very happy with the additional features found on the X-56 throttle. I even set aside my VKB Gladiator Pro and TM Warthog sticks to give the X-56 stick a try. While it isn't nearly as premium in feel as the aforementioned sticks, it is more than adequate with regards to precision and functionality in games (IL2:BoS and DCS specifically). The X56 really is a great value for the price.

I'd consider one of these depending on how much more I get into games like Elite Dangerous in VR - I recently got the T.16000m HOTAS setup for the princely sum of £80, but the throttle movement isn't great even after re-greasing it. I did manage to add a centre point to the throttle with some magnets that works amazingly though. Those flick switch buttons and other layout looks great but I heard bad things about the gimbal on the joystick. That said the T16000m has an issue where the twist axis drifts off to the left and is really annoying.

Bought my X56 at christmas, so far it works fine, only a little squeak in the upper right which I don't hear ingame because I usually use a headset.
@The531Ghost8 жыл бұрын
I had the same issue with the sticky throttle during my review I wrote for CombatACE. I assumed that because it appears the mini-joysticks on the Saitek Website are supposed to have a programmable twisting axis, they don't. They do twist, they just don't do anything when being twisted. Programming software hasn't really changed since the X65. You still have to calibrate the throttle in Windows as it's not available to be calibrated in the H.U.D. nor are the mini-joysticks on either the stick, or throttle. Anywho, your mileage may vary.

No mention of the new owners Logitech although I do not expect they will have had any input re the QC yet and any products in the shops today will still be Mad Catz quality. Ergo I will stay away until I know the QC has improved.
@jenevivelancia30127 жыл бұрын
the movement friction on the throttle is by design. the x52's did it, the x52 pro did it, the X-55 does it, the X-65 doesit as well. it's so that fine movements can be achieved, while it will loosen up when in a dogfight. (100%-0% throttle transitions)

when my x55 died they replaced it with a x56 and i love it more then my 55 but i hate the thumb stick on my joy but love the one on the throttle. also i do have some drift but just raised the deadzone

I do realize this is an older review but as I just ordered an X56 it is timely for me. Thank you, your discussion of the device should prove useful when my new HOTAS arrives. Other reviews I have seen were from strictly space game types and while apparently you are into those as well but I trust your opinions from all of the flight sim videos of yours I have seen. Maybe I should check out some of those space games. ;)
@robainscough8 жыл бұрын
That's a little odd, what's the point behind having variable lights if it was setup to be used with VR where you can't see the device? I believe Logitech bought Saitek, which I think is good news for Saitek. But having to set a "null zone" for the main flight stick is definitely a show stopper for me. Appreciate the review, provided exactly what I needed to know.

Got one, plus a Rift and a 1080. Not used the Rhino yet. I have also not tried the Rift on FS yet. I am wrestling with what reality really is. Is it very realistic hardware and 4K, or is it crappy resolution with depth immersion ? One really neat trick however is to watch FS videos in VR's FREE program called BigScreen. By defining a big screen out in space, warping it to be very concave, and then pulling it in close to your nose one can create very realistic looking cockpit side window views with a necessity to turn your head in order to see them. Warpage is not noticeable. Also, tower views can be made to look much more realistic by pulling the view in because you have to turn your head as an airplane lands or takes off down the runway. Watching FS videos in BigScreen may be the subject for one of your videos. BigScreen has emerged as a major player with it's social connectivity and first to already incorporate "Touch" controllers which ships December 6th in volume. There appears to be money behind BigScreen. Touch controllers may be a game changer for all FS in VR.

Seems good. It is just what i expected from the incremented number in it´s name - A step forward from the X55. I myself own the latter and see no particular reason to "upgrade". The two new Joysticks seem useful but don´t cut it for me. Who knows - If i manage to sell my X55 one day without too much of a loss, i might buy the X56 (or whatever is the current model then).

hope they'll create x-66 with same principe as x-65 but with a little bit moving(optional!), just for some damper of sensors, actually that 65 force sensor is brilliant idea, and with that sensor you can use movable or not movable stick, cuz in any way that sensors will got force for response, and that sensors very best as unbeatable, and i have no idea why they stop use it and use that hall and resistors, i sure if you want create even force feedback joystick, thats stain transformers will just best of all, cuz can change dynamically as movable so soon response, if need, use materials with variable flexibility, if need force feedback with prevent any mechanical problems

The new one is still crap and way overpriced...mostly plastic.... Save 100 bucks more and get a warthog, its metal and will serve you decades.
@kendil224 жыл бұрын
@@Presbiter The shell is metal but the insides aren't. I had to open my throttle to replace dead switches in the first 6 months on my warthog. And the Joystick is all plastic inside. It'll last longer than the x-55 and x-56 by several years but it won't last decades. The good news is Virpil bases work with the stick so you just buy a virpil base after a couple of years and when your warthog stick base fails.

I honestly don't understand how anyone with good intentions recommends SAITEK to anyone. SAITEK falls under the saying "BUYER BEWARE" because of their poor build quality and quality control in general. My X52 and X52 pro, a replacement for the first one, both exhibit the same flaws such as buttons which stopped working and joystick lighting that turns on when I press a button even though I have lights set to off.
@JIMJAMSC8 жыл бұрын
I have no budget and have used the X52s since they came out. I am rough on them flying helis and fighters. 1st one I used so much eventually the rubber came off and then the pots started wearing out on the joystick. so I bought a second pair and still use the original throttle after 15 years. when the TM A-10 came out I gave in to temptation and it failed within 2 months. Ended up rebuilding it and after another fail sold it as "as is". Seeing that I cannot think of anything thats sold today that is better than 10 years ago, I would not doubt today's sticks are less quality.

Now after Logitech has acquired Waited, I dream that Logitech will release successor to G940 with fixes for some more common problems, and new features like a extension tubes and individual units on USB as sales. That HOTAS was/is still the only FF one for helicopter pilots. It just makes so nice to have the magnetic trimmer to lock cyclic to its position for hands free flight. X56... I don't get the coloring. It is so childishly done and just ugly. Really like the plain look that CH has and their build.... But they don't have a dual throttle (split) or some of the needed mini-joystics in stick or dual-stage trigger. VKB HOTAS starts to look far more promising, if they get FF versions and some fancy helicopter collectives as well out. Full metal, no centering sticks and extensions etc. But looks like now focusing to simple WW2 era aircrafts.

Still too much money for too much plastic and no twist lock. If you are going to spend that much on a stick, you might as well go upmarket and buy something that lasts longer and feels better. Eventually you will want to upgrade anyway and regret not having spent the extra money to begin with. All peripherals are kind of like that, be it racing wheels, joysticks, pedals, even monitors or keyboards. Either buy something cheap or something really good.
