To me TARANIS TX IS THE BEST Tx MONEY CAN BUY!!! And Rx's That are all well under 50usd each and you never hav to worry about signal loss,as well as some others tx brands there rx's cost as much as a Taranis tx!

I had the simillar experience like you. Flew 2 weeks with it until I went back to taranis. I tried to fly without the neck strap first, but it didnt work out. The biggest issue I had was the transport. It is so big and heavy....doesnt fit anywhere. Only the gimbal was better when you want to fly "twitchy" higher rates, but thats not needed without nowadays expos

What a shame FrSky though... they spent YEARS to get that product on the market... What were they doing? Now i'm scared for their future... this radio must have cost them a lot of money to develop, too bad it sucks. This might be the end of FrSky guys... RIP
@BorisBnow8 жыл бұрын
MogMog It's just a different product. Taranis is still a killer. If they just could bring the gimbals to taranis than it would be perfect! For me as I said it is the form factor and not the product itself.
@PIDtoolbox8 жыл бұрын
FrSky should just look at everything people like and dislike about the ever-popular Taranis, and simply develop it into the "perfect" radio! They must realize how super popular is has become, so why completely reinvent the "wheel" with the Horus. I think they must realize this was a big blunder. Just give us a better Taranis! Call it the Taranis plus-plus! That's all we want!
@aleksandrpruks60198 жыл бұрын
That's because they want Taranis users to switch to something more expensive and earn a lot more money than by selling Taranis to newbies;)

The Horus isn't necessarily aimed at Taranis users. There are people who prefer the tray type of radio. Also, the development of the Horus isn't at the expense of the Taranis. I agree it would be good to bring out a higher spec version of the Taranis, but it is still the best Radio I have used, without exception (and I was a long term Multiplex user previously).

Great video and appreciate your honest input! I had been following the Horus for a long time now. I am normally a early adopter of new tech. However, it seemed to just keep getting pushed back. The more info came out the more I realized my taranis and taranis plus have done everything I have needed and I haven't even tapped half the possibilities with opentx. I still needed another radio so I had extras for the kids and nephews to experience the hobby and last week I bought another taranis plus. It really is hard to beat the value of that radio and have a feeling frsky is going to have a hard time winning over people to fork out so much money for this radio. I like the traditional JR Propo case better. Really if they came out with a Taranis Pro that solved all the original issues (better speaker that doesn't buzz with uhf, better trim switches that don't fail, built in and external antenna options, hall effect gimbals, rubber side grips, RGB LCD) and targeted the $300 segment they could take more of my money. Heck a DIY upgrade kit would be a good idea to as so many of us already know the inside of the taranis so well. LoL
@680production8 жыл бұрын
Bahaha, love this video. I actually bought one and I love it, but you are correct, I carry the case everywhere because I do not want to damage the screen. I actually stopped wearing a neck strap for a while now since I never enjoyed the feeling on my neck so the small hole never bothered me. The only real issue I have with the Horus, was not this new firmware (which kinda bothered me since I was so use to the Taranis), nor the built in battery but the range. Fail Safe Fail Safe everywhere. It was always fine when I am at a small park, but big wide open fileds, Ohh man, not good. I actually bought an 8dbi antenna since I love flying over the ocean, and do not want to loose another quad/GoPro (RIP QAV250). Thanks for the Vid Josh, and all the help you have given me.

Well, I have used the Taranis since it came out, and waited patiently for the Horus for almost a year. I got one of the first production Horus radios and have used it for almost daily for the last 2.5 months. I have been flying planes and FPV miniquads. I totally love this radio. The display is fantastic, and the switches and gimbals feel great. It fits great in my hand. I like the heft of the radio. The speakers produce sounds that my pretty deaf ears can understand. I am getting good range with the internal antenna only. I wouldn't trade it for any other radio I have seen at our local club.

I bought my first radio, the Taranis, a couple of months ago and I thought if I should wait for the Horus. But I thought the Horus just looks wide on the pictures and it will be difficult to use the sticks with the thumbs. I would have thought you, with all your experience, should have spotted this possible problem before you bought it. Or did you see this problem and you still bought it?
@JoshuaBardwell8 жыл бұрын
If I never bought a product that I thought I could forsee problems with, I would never buy anything. When you have a KZbin channel and you get a chance to see a hot product 2+ months before it's on the market, it's hard to say no.

Josh, you mentioned you use thumbs not pinch. I was wondering what you thought of Boris' comment in the LDO podcast that pinching is like free extra resolution for your control sticks, and whether you think you would ever switch? I have been a pincher since RC heli days a decade ago and have always found I need that resolution. I tried thumbs a few times and found myself overcontrolling a lot.

Hi Joshua, could you please do a review on the Turnigy Evolution radio system/protocol? The stupid screen doesn't bother me that much, but I'd really like to know how the ia6c holds up against an XSR or an X4RSB. Happy flying, Leon
@David__8 жыл бұрын
Totally agree Joshua. Hope FrSky are listening to all this feedback. I would gladly pay $100 more for a refined Taranis ++ ... something with better gimbals (eg Aurora 9), removable + larger DB antenna, minor upgrades to the "quality / feel", external lipo battery connectors. I think more real competition is the answer....hoping that DJI release their TX & RX technology to suit for racing drones. They have got the new "snail" motor + props for racing drones.. why not also offer their Mavic Transmitter + a low-latency lightweight RX module - we know the Mavic can certainly handle long range.

I am really interested to know what you feel about the, Turnigy Evolution. I know it is really gimmicky. But if you can get past that. Do you think it would make a good grab and go second radio or perhaps a primary? also i am concerned about AFHDS 2A.and AFHDS range and stability i know that the radios using this tech are entry level and inexpensive but new pilots like myself are using them and there is very little information about range and reliability. Love your work. thank you

@bazathome20028 жыл бұрын
All most of the community wants is a 'Taranis Pro' with slightly better switches and gimbals, and maybe a slightly nicer looking case. They could have done that in a flash and sold them by the bucket load. Instead they spend years developing a radio with poorer range performance (the number one requirement to get right!) and poorer ergonomics at an inflated price!
@nicholasjacobs19675 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I just replaced the gimbals on mine with the hall effect ones. And then the "exit" button got stuck. Turned out to be the plastic hinge for the buttons gave way on one end - easy hot glue fix. But it would be better to have nice caps on the buttons instead of those chincy ones... maybe I'll 3D print some ...meh.

@gingermattb8 жыл бұрын
A fair review of the Horus' issues, but at the end of the day the biggest problem is you are not the target market for this radio. FrSky want to tempt Futaba, JR and Jeti users with a high physical quality but cheaper radio than their current sets and that has more traditional firmware than OpenTX. These guys spend big regularly so the economics are way better for FrSky, but they would never consider a Taranis which they just perceive it as too cheap, plasticky and complex. This TX is the result of marketing and economics driving the design, but personally I feel they have missed the mark in too many areas for it to be a hit. I hope they go on and market a Taranis Plus+ as a result.

What do you think about the TBS Tango?
@JoshuaBardwell8 жыл бұрын
Can we just say that Taranis is my favorite radio and save me the hassle I'm going to get if I say anything remotely negative about a TBS product? Built in receiver with 180 degree antenna is very clever.d JR module bay means that you have the additional latency of a CPPM translation going into the module. Latency will be higher than a native FrSky or Spektrum system. And if you wanted to fly Spektrum, you have the hassle of dealing with DSM JR modules which are usually flaky. USB charging port for 6 Ah battery makes me wonder how long it takes to top off in a hurry if you needed to do such a thing. Really prefer standard Nickel or Lithium packs to integrated packs with limited charging options. Perhaps TBS has done something clever with a high-output USB charger, but then you can't use any other standard charger. Why not just give me a battery that I can charge with the same charger I use for all my other packs? As near as I can tell, you can't adjust the transmitter channel endpoints on this radio. This seems ridiculous, but I was working with somebody who had this radio and we could not figure out that this was possible. He ended up using rxrange to get his channel endpoints fixed in CleanFlight. So for whatever reason, the TBS was not sending 1000/2000 as its endpoints, and we could not find any way to make this happen. If this is correct, a $250 radio with channel endpoints that can't be adjusted makes no sense to me. If the idea is that it's designed for mini quads not servos, then fine, but then it must output 1000/2000 already, and it wasn't.
@rodswim918 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I completely agree that the TBS Tango falls short in many aspects and it could be lot better. Also I wish that they had a Taranis with better gimbals and with the removable antenna. You buy a new product and then start modifying it right out of the box.

Okay, I own a Horus, I pre-ordered one within 2 minutes of them going on pre-order and I got one of the first units, infact mine was manufactured on August 28th, and delivered to me September 5th. I was just at an event, and everyone wanted to see it, and ask me my opinion. And here it is, if you already fly frsky don't upgrade, it isn't worth it. If you fly Spektrum wait a year until they've worked out the bugs, because the Horus software is still buggy. They missed the boat with approachable, because you need a comp-si degree to update the firmware. LETS talk about those "AMAZING Gimbals" THEY'RE NOT. As far as deadband, they rock, 1500 is 1500 every time. However, I like a really floaty stick, but they put heavy springs in it. I was able to get the floaty stick feel I liked, but it wasn't from twisting some nobs, I needed to custom order springs, etc, and then when I did get looser sticks, I could feel the wire tugging inside the radio because they used very stiff wires to connect the sensors, and didn't think about routing them in the design of the gimbals. They could have had the wire come out of the side of the gimbal, and it would have been a really nice thing.
@SpoonFPV8 жыл бұрын
Oh, and I would complain about the fact that the battery is built in, so if it dies on you at the field, there isn't an option to carry a spare, but it wouldn't be fair to the radio because I can get a few days of flying on mine for sure, so I can't complain, but I always have that fear that I'm gonna be at an event and the battery die, and I'll not have an option, so now instead of carrying a spare battery, I'm forced to carry a spare radio.

I had a Taranis, and didn't really get on with the setup, I'm more a trad aeromodeller than programmer, (I have no issue setting up Spektrum gear, expo/rates/modes/sequences etc) but surely the fact that you can change firmware from Open TX to 'dumb down' as you put it negates these 'choice issues' does it not? Still, if it is a bad design, then it's a bad design no matter what software you use. I thought the Horus 'looked' great BTW! I have a DX 18t, so am used to 'WIDE'!!!

I carry my Taranis, and every other radio I've owned before and since in a hard case so wouldn't damage the screen, but at least the screen is in the correct place for a change. There's little that's as annoying as looking down at your screen to change a setting, only to find a neck strap in the way. The Horus is FAR too expensive though. In this country (UK) it's £468. Quite frankly, that's a ridiculous price. I paid £150 for my Taranis 2.5 years ago. That's more than 3x Taranises (Taranii?). I have a Mikado Vbar control for my helis (which also cost me less than a Horus, just) and the Taranis for my quads. I used to fly the helis with it too. I hoped to replace the Taranis with the Horus, but it's just one big let down. I can honestly see them discontinuing it unless there are a load of plane fliers buying them. Quad guys and heli guys don't use them, that's for sure.

Well i have the taranis x9 upgrading the bootloader and system was so fucking hard, it took almost a week to get everything back to normal and there's not a single legit vid showing everything you have to go thru to do it right, thats the only thing i hate about the taranis, i almost switch to spektrum for that.

I think the neckstrap should go along with your comments on the thumb feel, the whole radio LOOKS too wide to me aswell, I also thumb the sticks, and feel this beast IS a tray radio pretending to be a Hand Held. The neckstrap mount was most likely a distant 10th afterthought.......think I will stick with my Taranis and save the lots of $$$$

Thank FSM (Flying Spaghetti Monster) they didn't tweak the radio protocol to sell new receivers with it. That would have sucked so bad.

I feel the same even when i only have one Taranis plus radio which i think it is the best transmitter for me.

Why did it take more than 9 minutes to express your opinion? Could have been a 3' video (or even 1') :)
@JoshuaBardwell8 жыл бұрын
The average view duration on this video is 5:13. 30% of viewers watched it all the way to the end. Any other questions? :-)
@JoshuaBardwell8 жыл бұрын
Here's the audience retention graph. X axis is minutes of play-time, Y axis is percent of audience retained. Notice that about 60% of people made it to the 5:30 mark. imgur.com/a/gGpbT Here's the bottom line. I like to talk. People like to hear me talk. And KZbin pays better for higher watch-times and longer videos.
@teuluPaul8 жыл бұрын
I have no problem with you talking :). I just think you should consider the amount of content, and trim the video accordingly! I probably watched more than 5' because I kept thinking you would express more opinions! Anyway, I don't want to be negative - you take the time to make videos for people to watch and be better informed, so kudos to you for doing so!

+Paul Jewell you should have seen how long this was before I trimmed it!

I must be wierd. I really like it. It isn't perfect but it feels great and is easy to use. I have big hands and am a pincher so maybe it just works for me.

i love the look of this thing but I care more about function. hell my teranis has been collecting dust since i bought a devo and I'm sure the gimbals aren't as good as the teranis but i haven't noticed.

Yeah, this thing seems like a big fail for quad racers. Thanks for the review
@sqwert6548 жыл бұрын
watched some reviews yesterday and have to agree, they could have put some switches on the back on the grips. The neck strap is just wrong and a failure point waiting to happen. And why so heavy, did they add lead? kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXbWlnWal7eSd7c

Intersting way to start off a review by saying you hate new things. I guess you've found a niche and I wish you well with it. Should attract a lot of sibscribers.

This isn't a review. It's an editorial. So far I have 65,000 subs so it seems to be going okay. Welcome to the channel.

the fact they ship a new RC radio in 2016 with a built in nickel battery of all things, is a red flag for me already. it's like fitting a smartphone with an ibm microdrive. :D admittingly though, it looks an awful lot better than the x9d, which i found very unappealing, even though everybody and his mom seems to love it.
@EleanorPeterson5 жыл бұрын
I believe it's a tray radio for stick pinchers. Nobody else will buy it, like it, or want it. Seems odd that you'd buy it if you're not a tray-pinch guy.

do we really need a radio that cost 400 F-ing dollars!...plus im a spectrum user and if something works well for me i dont fix it..i have the QX7 and i like it very much but mostly use my spectrum....plus i mostly fly ACRO X frame quads and no need for all the features ...

I was Taranis functionality but instead of that ugly screen and menu fiddling give me Bluetooth and a phone app. And make it ergonomic! It's the 21st Century already! :D

were you thumb guy and now you pincher ?! why? which way better ? shall i practice to be a pincher ? i'm still in the beginning of my way and can try and change myself

Yes. You should buy it. It's great. Much better than simple taranis. I have one. Its great especially hall sensor gimbals. They are forever. Also screen is on the Top which is Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just Keep Cheapi taranis for flight simulator.... LOL

i don't understand RC radios. Would some company take a hint from the console gaming industry and design a radio that actually fits in a humans hands? The way be fly mini quads is much more like playing a video game than flying a line of sight plane. I like the direction TBS is going with the Tango, but make a version without the clunky FPV screen. I would love the see a radio designed specifically for flying machines that have all the tuning done on the flight controller and not in the radio. Not something to replace the Taranis, but a price point below the Taranis, maybe about $120 or less. Give me two nice gimbals with good weight and smooth bearings, maybe about 4 switches and 2 pots, a small status and settings touch screen, an SMA connector for the antenna, a removable battery, and make the thing as light and compact as possible but with the ergonomics of an Xbox controller. I don't ask for much :-)
@WestonWill8 жыл бұрын
So i just ordered a Turnigy Evolution... here is hoping it works well lol :-) For the price it may be a good hacking platform to stuff a FrSky module into if possible.

I'm also gonna probably buy one to replace my old I6, looks really promising for mini quads.
@landonmaurer27738 жыл бұрын
Weston Will I really don't understand why you would want something like a Xbox controller. It just wouldn't feel right for me but if that's what you want its all preferences. I'm just saying everyone has different opinions, I would much rather have a taranis than anything close to an Xbox controller
@nandakoryaaa7 жыл бұрын
But there are plenty of Taranises and close to zero Xbox-like controllers. So it is quite natural to want something like Xbox controller for those who have different opinion, no?
@boy6named6zoen66 жыл бұрын
Have you seen the new transmitter in the frsky line-up? I believe it's called the taranis lite and looks like a Playstation game controller. Just put some umbrella or lotus style gimbal ends on it and you have what you wished for.

Every thing about this controller would frustrate the hell out of me.With three D Printing you think they would be able to print the case and add an approx weight and distribute it then test the balance when using the neck strap and dont you have a panel to tell you the stupidity of not having a plug i plug out LiPo so you can just pull one out when you one goes flat all the things that are a problem would be solved by taking notes on the coments and complaints of a group of flyers on a sunday morning at the club
