Thank you for trying to understand trans people. Unfortunately there are a lot of people who don't want to understand or think trans people have "mental" issues. I am a 54 year old transgender man. Started this journey a long time ago. There are other things that testosterone can cause as we get older. Make sleep apnea worse, red blood cell count goes higher, can cause heart problems and or heart attack. No, you don't have to stay on a large level of testosterone the rest of your life but, you do have to stay on some testosterone. Starting testosterone can cause endometriosis which is exactly what happened to me. Unfortunately my female doctor at the time refused a hysterectomy. I had to have emergency surgery. I guess what I am trying to say is to have a great relationship with your primary doctor, your endocrinologist, your gynecologist if you have one. Don't let what happened to me happen to you. Peace. @@deed3933 Personally, I stopped wanting to put anything exogenous into my body. I found that being on T made me the healthiest I'd ever been in my life... it was easy to get fit and trim and I was strong and I had a ton of energy. However, I just didn't like the idea of putting synthetic hormones into my body. I didn't have any bad effects or anything. It was all good. It's just that the aversion to putting things in my body outweighed all. It was hard at first, physically... of course the fat redistributed back to a female pattern and I gained weight again way too easily even while exerting myself constantly and having a clean diet. However... I decided to find the root of why my body was not able to function without T and I found solutions so I was able to get healthy again. Of course, I'm limited in terms of strength, and have to work harder at that than with T, but it's fine. I need strength for my lifestyle as an off-grid person who lives in the country, but I can manage. My body feels better energetically without T, if that makes sense. Like I'm not stifling my body's natural processes of ovulating, which sounds stupid to a lot of people, but I am keenly aware of all my body's processes and the energy just flows better when it's allowed to bleed. Being on T for so many years made some permanent changes that are amazing, like it stabilized my mood, helped me drop 200 pounds super fast, and it was in my system long enough to make my monthly cycle normal whereas before I would just be in pain constantly and it would last forever... now it's short and there is no pain hardly. I just feel like putting it in my body now is unnecessary! All it's going to do is make my hair fall out and make me age faster lol

There are plenty of vocal exercises you can do to achieve a lower sounding voice. (This is a very late reply but assuming you haven't started T) But for the most part, yes, the voice change is permeant
@AwakeningWarrior4 жыл бұрын
The voice change is not permanent. If you stop T for a long time (a few years) it will go back and you will not pass as male vocally anymore unless you passed pre-T. The doctors are wrong... so just be aware of that. If you risk your health to have a deeper voice, and stop T, it will reverse after a while.
@anthozoaz4 жыл бұрын
@@AwakeningWarrior That's not true. Your vocal cords can't get shorter once they've already grown longer (which is what causes a deeper voice). That's why trans women don't get higher voices from starting estrogen and testosterone blockers. I know several AFAB people who've been on T and stopped, none of them have had their voices go back to being higher. Once you've gone through testosterone puberty, the only thing that can higher your voice is voice training or surgery
@AwakeningWarrior4 жыл бұрын
@@anthozoaz Based on lived experience, myself and MANY other transguys, you are incorrect. My voice got super deep after a decade of being on T - and after 3 years off T it went back to where it was about 1 month on T. Doctors are wrong. Your theory is wrong. Sorry. Reality sucks sometimes. PS: most people "go off of T" for a few months and have no clue about where their voice will be in a year or two or three. They haven't been off long enough to even qualify to comment on what happens off of T. But if it makes you feel better, you can believe the false narrative. I'm not trying to convince you of reality. You're entitled to disregard reality entirely. Because naturally, my comment backed by experience is clearly false and I've just had some kind of vocal cord surgery to raise my voice and don't know what I'm talking about and neither do hundreds of other transguys who have discovered the same impermanence of vocal cord changes :)
@AwakeningWarrior4 жыл бұрын
@@anthozoaz PS: the way testosterone affects a person born male during puberty is more permanent than when people born female take testosterone years after puberty. And some trans women do get higher voices from blocking T for many years and taking estrogen. Hormones don't work the way you've been led to believe in theory. I would bet that every single female-born person who takes testosterone who doesn't experience their voice going back up either (a) has not been off of testosterone long enough for it to change - months don't count, try years - 3 to 4 years and it's back to Minnie Mouse... or (b) they went on a low dose for a short time and their voice never changed that much to start with. Give it a few more years, they'll all be pissed off when they can't pass as male anymore without the testosterone to deepen their voice. Happens every time... problem is, hardly anyone has gone public after being off of testosterone for a long period of time, so the stuff you see online just is not a reflection of reality. Welcome to Earth where social media fantasies have replaced reality and nobody understands reality or biology anymore. No, your vocal cords are not permanently changed with T. That's just not how it works.

I asked my Endo if I would pick up where I left off. He said no, I would have to start all over again. Sorry this is kind of long but I am just putting it out there so other people know. My voice, nor enlarged bits went back to pre-T, but my body hair (yeti belly and wookie patch on lower back) fell out. Also arm hair and thigh hair went back to pre T. I did have a hysterectomy in 2006 so AUNT Flo stayed gone obviously. Upon taking T again (7 shots in) my hair growth and voice dropping picked right back up where it left off. Still waiting for yeti belly and wookie patch to come back 😕 Hope this helps.

I’ve been on T since 2015. My last shot was September last year. I formed a phobia of needles after being in a hospital for 10 days getting poked and prodded, and it made me put off getting my shot. And I didn’t realise how depressed I had gotten the last couple months until the other day. So I went back to my doc today and I got my T shot. After almost a YEAR off it :( I haven’t felt male/masculine for a couple months now. Despite the fact I have a deep voice and a beard etc etc. my period in fact did not return (thankfully) but makes me wonder if there’s a serious reason going on with my inside parts due to having been on T for the better part of 6 years. Anyway, I definitely have an hourglass figure again, very low libido, and just overall discomfort with how I feel about my physical masculinity. I think a topic that should definitely be touched on when making a video about what happens when you stop T, is the mental health side of it. This is assuming the person has stopped T but isn’t detransitioning or anything. Life just got in the way and they never got around to getting their next injection, aka, me 😂 but the mental health decline you’ll experience when stopping T unintentionally. I haven’t felt myself all year and I didn’t realise it was because I was off T. Even just the psychological effects my injection a couple of hours ago has had on my mental health has been astounding. Because I know I’m back in the path I’m supposed to be on and I can look forward to feeling myself again. 😀

Love your videos!! And I gotta do some myth busting here. A lot of people think voice changes are permanent, but they aren't. I've been off testosterone for four years after being on for a decade and my voice basically went back to female range and I get "ma'am'd" and "she'd" all the day long... can't pass as male on the phone at all, even trying. Also, my leg hair, arm hair, and body hair went back to pre-t status in terms of color, thickness, pattern, and existence. I barely have 5 strands of leg hair as I had before T. Except facial hair. That still grows, but slightly thinner and 10x slower. If I make a mistake shaving, it will be noticeable for months. I shave once every 2 months now. Oh all my shoulder hair and belly hair has gone away back to pre-t levels. Voice is not permanent, I repeat, voice changes on T are not permanent, LOL warning danger lol if you're going to stop taking T keep this in mind because if it's important that your voice stay in a male range, you'll be upset when you realize your voice went back to a female range! I've been thinking about this a lot recently! thank you! I've been starting to think about the chance of getting T because it would help with my dysphoria but I don't want to transition in the same sense you're transitioning. so I was wondering about what would happen if I at some point wanted to have kids of my own and so on. it's good to know that it's not going to be off the table if I do get T. Finland's trans law tho are... kind of difficult...

I’ve been on T for about 2 years, and I did have Top Surgery. I have found that taking testosterone is more of a hassle now that the major surgery is out of the way. My voice is changed, my chest is how I need it to be. I see myself as more gender neutral, and I have been considering stopping testosterone. The permanent changes are all I really needed, but I’m still a little hesitant (I also don’t know how my family will take it) I wanted to be sure it was possible and not harmful in any way. You answered my questions, thank you so much!! *One question though* Since I’ve had had top surgery, Will stopping testosterone affect how my chest acts/looks? Thank you so much!
@xbduf4gb6 жыл бұрын
Stopping testosterone will not affect your post op chest. Your voice might get higher, not as high as it was originally. My voice got higher when I stopped. Facial hair can stay, might get lighter, but the rest reverts back to female.

Its very rare if someone start hormones and suddenly stops and says that they're not trans and that they're actually cis. I wonder how its like for those people, since obviously hormones can change so much and it'll be a bit difficult to look cis again (if that's what they desire)
@b.ashley92228 жыл бұрын
Jay Fulkerson There are other reasons to stop hormones. A lot of people have trouble adjusting to changes at first, so they need a bit more time before they're ready to go on hormones permanently. Others have to stop for medical or financial reasons. They might not be getting any benefit from them, or they might find them to be too much of a hassle. There are all sorts of reasons.

I've recently started watching your videos - thanks so much for such great, informative videos. I'm hoping to transition on the NHS (Scotland), and I had my first GIC appointment last week (it's getting continued very soon, in March). What I hadn't considered and was asked if I had considered was fertility and transitioning. One of those options on the NHS, I am sure you are aware, is stopping T for a period of time and kind of 'giving it a go' I guess. This video was great in re-afirming what I'd researched for the effects of going off of T. I look forwards to watching more of your videos :) Cheers.

Would breasts start to develop again if you go off T? I mean even if you've had or haven't had top surgery?
@palmtree19587 жыл бұрын
+Ger Does Art I'm no expert, but top surgery removes the breast tissue, and the absence of breasts has nothing to do with taking Testosterone (although I do believe they shrink or change shape or something when you're on T without having had top surgery). If you hadn't had top surgery, and you were on T and they changed shape, I'd say yeah they'd probably change back a bit but I think it might depend on how old you were and how long you'd been on T.

0:47 for the voice drop, if you don't take T for that long will your voice continue to deepen for a short time after stopping? Facial hair will continue to grow fully even after stopping T? I've seen some peoples faces get rounder once on T but if fat leaves the face because of T, how does this happen? If you choose to start T only after a hysterectomy & oophorectomy, do you know about how T would affect the menopause process / symptoms?

I had my transition when I was 20, 45 years ago. I took testosterone for 20 years but do to liver damage from hept. C which I acquired thru blood tranfusion during surgeries in the early 80’s I quit taking the testosterone. I had an extremely hairy chest from “T” and when I quit taking it my chest hairs became finer and finer till after approximately 2 years it had dissapeared. So yes you can lose your body hair after a period of no testosterone. There is so much I could teach the young trans guys but have never been one to social media.

Jay f. Unfortunately baldness did happen but when I had to lay off testosterone before liver transplant it eventually all returned. Now I am back on “T” I am taking just what is perscribed and using Rogaine every day and so far I haven’t had the loss of hair this go round. Hair all over rest of body is happening tho but thay’s ok.

Im a non binary FTM who stopped taking T due to an unsupportive partner who made me feel guilty for wanting to be masculine. Your smell will go back to being more feminine, but not completely the same as it was before. Body hair will thin out and in some places stop growing completely (i had hairy hands and some on my chest and they stopped growing, so did my stomach hairs). Periods will come back. Your skin will thin out again and fat will redistribute back to feminine areas like hips, thighs and butt.

It sounds like a no-lose situation for me. I've got PCOS which makes it so I don't menstruate naturally. It sounds like I could use rogane on my hair and face to discourage male pattern baldness (a certainty in my family) and encourage facial hair. Then when I've been on T for a year or two, I can stop and enjoy my Adams apple, low voice, and facial hair. Then a few months later I can stop rogane. I'll probably wind up with just a pedo-stache like my brother but I don't NEED facial hair.

@theonorthcraft45582 жыл бұрын
Yes, but be warned that a lot of doctors don’t understand the idea of non-binary people wanting testosterone only temporarily. So you may need to say that you are a man and have always been a man (play up the dysphoria more), then begin treatment, then go off of it after you are satisfied with where your body is.

It would stop if you stopped T, for some people it would stop immediately, but for others it might take a little while for it to completely stop.
@baileyhaines3958 жыл бұрын
Ah alright thank you ^_^ Also, another question... sorry aha. But I keep hearing different things from different people. But I've been told that you have to look at your mums side to see how your hair will go, whether it'll thin out or thicken up, but then I've been told you have to look at your dads side, I'd just like to know what you think it is as well, I value your opinion as you've been my source of infomation since I found out.
@Jammidodger8 жыл бұрын
Hey, no worries. From what I've heard, people are told to look at their mums side because it's on the X chromosome (cis guys have one X), but if you're a trans person on T, then it could come from either (or both) your mum and dad's side because you have two X chromosomes. I'm not completely sure if this is 100% accurate, but there is a strong hereditary link to balding, so it's best to look at both sides.

As far as the hair loss that would still be determined by genetics right? I would look at my mother's father to see if I would inherit that gene, or is it different because of the hormone?
@silverish90815 жыл бұрын
If you have two X chromosomes, you have to look at both your dad and your mother's granddad as genes associated with baldness are mainly linked to X chromosome.
