If I had to guess, going with Sheogorath's theme of madness, his book can probably only be properly read and understood by the insane, as to someone sane the book makes no sense or perhaps is entirely misunderstood by that individual. If I had to guess about Boethiah's shield, either it had an effect in which case it was probably that it had low durability but upon breaking cast an effect on the enemy that broke it to make them more easily deceived. Or it had no effect and she gave it to him to mess with him and because he was already good at deception, or the last option she gave him a crap shield that would break so he could use it's breaking to pretend to surrender to the enemy that broke it.

Actually, because Daedric Artifacts are a living part of the Daedra, it is literally IMPOSSIBLE to destroy them. If you do, the Artifact actually just rebuilds itself inside oblivion the same way the Daedra rebuild their bodies after "dying". Therefore the Shield of Boethia is still out there somewhere.

Doesn't the Boethiah story just sound logical tho? Boethiah tricked the imperial and the imperial then tricked the wyrm, so Boethiah rewarded the imperial by saving him from the wyrm. Something like Boethiah being: "Good my student, you have learned deceit. I reward you for that."

I love the cresent balde, was the first elder scrolls I played and the first artifact I found. I also found a one handed war hammer in morrowind, can't remember the name but it was a unique weapon. The enchant made it weightless when wielded and with glass armour and enchants you could weigh 0 which was very fun at max level, all tooled up and running around as fast as you would when naked one shotting ordinators lol

Fudgemuppet. Maybe boethiah gave him the shield, not to trick the imperial, but the worm. Tricking an opponent and using them for your own needs then discarding them. Sounds pretty boethic to me. (Not sure of boethic is a word but it'll work)
@BGgungame
@BGgungame 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, just what I thought. The story just fits. Boethiah gives the guy a weak shield to trick him, and then the guy tricks the worm, which would then impress Boethiah because Daedric Prince of deceit, conspiracy, treachery, etc. So the part about the raven sounds logical because the imperial did exactly what Boethiah would have done so Boethiah in turn saved him as a reward.
@elricengquist9989
@elricengquist9989 7 жыл бұрын
Actually I am think that maybe she did want to deceive the person she gave the shield to. Yet then when the shield broke an the person she gave it to used deception an treachery to gain the advantage, even though her own attempts at treachery had failed might have turned him into the raven as a form of begrudging approval of his own method of succeeding at his appointed duty.
@skilletlover2
@skilletlover2 7 жыл бұрын
I gotta point this out because it's bothering me. A "Worm" is a little guy in the ground that eats dirt. A "Wyrm" is an old term for dragons, which is the word you're looking for. With that out of the way, I feel like your comment could be a plausible explanation of how the shield situation happened. It makes perfect sense to me. The only other plausible option I could think of was Boethiah deceived the Imperial because that's his thing, then when the Imperial deceived the Wyrm Boethiah felt proud of his champion he taught so well and saved his life by turning him into a raven.

Also, while playing Oblivion, I was cleansing an Oblivion Gate, and came across a room filled with Dremora. One of them had a greatsword of Paralysis. All I could do, as multiple Dremora and their lessers whooped my paralyzed glutes, was lie there and chug on health potions. I only escaped when his sword ran out of charges. I then rose from the ground and delivered unto them my fury. They did do a number on my healing supplies though. 😔

Number 5 makes a lot of sense actually. Being the daedric prince of deceit she made him believe he was rewarded with something powerful only to find out it was weak. He then used deceit the very nature of Boethia to trick the wyrm into destroying an army. Then she rewarded him for his trick.

Boethea turning him into a raven is actually completely in line with the way the daedric prince works. She would give him a shield that is useless if struck because as the prince of treachery Boethea would not want to help someone that honorably faces danger head-on, however since he gained the upper hand through deceit and treachery Beothea would then reward that behaviour and keep him around.

It's possible it was a test in the first place to not just her being deceitful and then he passed and gained her favor then since he was gonna die she turned him into a raven. Because she likes people who face danger head on have you played her quest in skyrim? you have to have to fight your way to being her champion.

its because of their godly abilities and the difference between them. while the aedra can create they cannot change things that have been created. the daedra can change but cannot create anything in the world of nirn. these differences limit how the aedra and daedra can influence the world.

I always thought it was because the Aedra just didn't care about what was happening in Nirn
@shanedussault740
@shanedussault740 7 жыл бұрын
there are a couple of reasons, the primary being that the Aedra lost the large majority of their power when they created Nirn, whereas the deadra did not participate in the creation the second reason among many is that The Aether is much harder to reach than oblivion, infact the best way to look at it is an egg, nirn is the yolk, oblivion is the egg whites and shell, while Aether is the outside world. Nirn is surrounded and isolated by the planes of oblivion. the small amount of power that the Aedra to have come from the stars. Which isnt wholly true as the plants that join Nirn in orbiting Magnus (the sun) are supposed to be representations of the Aedra or their remains, Lorkhan the big daddy in the sky is represented by the two moons of Nirn; Masser and secunda. now even saying that the planets orbit magnus is probably wrong. going back to the egg analogy the sun and all the stars are holes torn through oblivion and mundus back to the Aether by magnus and magna ge in short, the Divines as we know they are old, tired, and waiting for their power to return to them (at the end of the Kulpa when everything restarts though we dont know if thats gonna happen ever again as the last dragon born defeated Alduin (the world eater and ender of kulpas [also maybe a form of akatosh]) however the Deadra (#notourancestors) were never tricked by lorkhan into creating mundus and instead created the realms of oblivion retaining almost all of their power as each realm is a specific representation of themselves and as such feeds power into them.

I don't think Boethia turning him into a raven to save him disproves, or even implies that Boethia couldn't've potentially given him a weak shield. Boethia doesn't show inherit bias toward any mortals, but will give those who prove themselves to him her blessing. He could've given him a weak shield to put him in a dire situation to see what he'd do under those circumstances. And once he performed adequately in her eyes boom, raven time.

for the last artifact mentioned, the weak shield theory makes sense given he then successfully uses the wyrm through the act of trickery rather than force given this fits Boethiahs theme, although I have no idea if a weak shield would allow someone to survive the direct fire breath of a wyrm in the first face.

Boethia, could've given him the weak shield to see him die. But impressed at how the mortal was able to 'deceive' the wyrm, Boethia, being the Daedric prince of deceit, decided to save his life by turning him into a raven. XD

Boethia probably rewarded him for using trickery and deception to get the dragon to do his bidding which they would respect. The shield was also probably a trick as well though.

Please do a Skyrim Modded build based on the mod "Beyond Skyrim: Bruma" It adds Bruma to the game, accessed by going down to the Skyrim-Cyrodiil border. It's really cool and adds a lot of new weapons and armors and I'd love to see it in a build.

Bethesda should make a mode or option in all TES games where artifacts and weapons are realistic so you can become a overpowered, unstopable fucking beast. Imagine having all the real powers from TES lore from all artifacts and magical powers put into one being. That would be lit.

Antihater135 Alright man, picture this: Having powers of the skeleton key; where you can open ANY physical door, metaphysical door and your "full potential" in any skill. The Oghma Infinium; essentially having knowledge of all living things which would give you a great advantage over your enemies. Mehrunes Razor; Allowing you to kill anyone who dares to face you. The Eye of Magnus; Imagine controlling all the power from the eye of magnus which is the most powerful thing (currently that we know of) in the elder scrolls universe. You could essentially bend reality. Daedric Artifacts can also all be used to complete certain rare rituals, such as when Martin Septim needed the blood of a Daedra to complete a portal to a place called Paradise. I imagine other such rituals exist in Tamriel that we haven't learned about yet. That's just a very small example of a gamemode like that.

I've made a theory that a mortal (most likely a Dragonborn) that owns all of the Artifacts, could actually achieve Chim. Chim, in case you don't know, is a mortal becoming very similar to a God. You are immortal and can create/destroy anything. The only thing that can kill you is the Actual Gods. The Dragonborn is already literally half a God. Clavicus Vile specifically says the Dragonborn is almost half the power of a Daedric Lord. If they had the all the artifacts, they would be able to rip apart the universe and crawl their way into Aetherius where they would absorb the full infinite power of magic, and transcend existence. They would become a God simply by being so powerful. Open any door, even non-existent ones. Literally knows EVERYTHING. Mind control. Dimensional teleportation. The power to literally UN-MAKE the entire planet. Just to name a few. To be a God, there are 3 things you must be: Omnipotent (All-Powerful), Omniscient (All-Knowing), and Omnipresent (All-Seeing). A Dragonborn having every Daedric artifact competes those criteria.

In regards to the shield crated by Boethiah, it seems more logical that the shield was designed to break under the wyrms breath so as to inflate its ego allowing the hero to manipulate it more easily.
@QuestionableObject

The story of Boethia's shield sounds like she gave him a shitty shield as a joke, then when he was clever and deceived the Wyrm into letting him get on to it's back when the shield melted and forced it to do his bidding she was impressed so saved him when he fell from it's back. That's my take on that.

The last one actually makes sense. Being Boethia who Boethia is, tricking the dragon could please the cunning daedra and incur their favour.

Though I’m really late to this video, I do have something to say about the shield. Boethia, just like all the deadra, use the artifacts as a pawn-like play in their massive game of chess known as power. If one breaks-oh no, wait, it’s back in oblivion waiting to be reused. Boethia most likely gave the shield, probably owned by a lesser deadra in her plain, to him to see how this could be used in her way. When he knelt to submit, she could most likely tell his bluff, and was eager to see where this goes. When the ride was finished, two beings had been tricked, but only one turned the trick into a treat. I would like to believe she turned him into a raven before turning him back and doing a similar thing, thus fully ending the story, and most likely his life.

I mean to me I think it would make sense Boethea would give someone a weak shield. It seems like Boethea really enjoys testing people so seeing what he did when the shield crumbled may have been the original intent, only rewarding him with his life after he bested the wyrm and destroyed an entire army using his wits alone.

Regarding fearstruck; in the legend told, the dragon sounds uncharacteristically gullible following the destruction of the artifact, and bends easily to the hero's will. Considering the daedric Lord who created it, I'd suggest that it was designed to be this brittle, a glass cannon that shatters the assailant's will when the item is destroyed (boosting effectiveness of illusiory skills like persuade or intimidate). The hero manipulated the effect to gain a temporary ally rather than simply scaring off a threat as intended. His craftiness would account for boethia's admiration and additional boon, ultimately saving him, and explain why the artifact had never been playable. Boethia never recreated it after the effect was manipulated beyond her intention!

12:07 Boethiah turning the guy into a raven doesn't necessarily contradict with giving him a flimsy shield. Boethiah is the daedric prince of plots after all. Not to mention the The Prince loves testing mortals.

My theory on the whole shield situation is that it was kinda a double agent deal. She tricked him to think that it was a good shield to trick the wyrm into thinking it was awesome to have that guy trick the Wyrm into getting on its back and then when all is said and done Boethia helped their champion

Maybe the shield is simply intended to turn invisible when stuck (in hopes of lulling the wyrm into a false sense of security), and also has the power to turn you into a raven.
