@@monsieurdorgat6864 Bruh, stop. This isn't LOTR or Harry Potter. The Daedric Princes aren't *people*. They're elements, essentially. Molag Bal IS dominance. He forces everyone and everything under his heel because that's what he is. There's no insecurity and no real reason we'd understand. He's no abuser. He's not even truly evil. Is a carnivore and evil for preying on other animals? No. It's just what they are. He is malice and rape. He's intangible and beyond all morality which is inherently subjective.

The interesting thing about the Daggerfall - Oblivion depictions of Molag Bal is that they more closely resemble older medieval depictions of the devil (reptilian and almost dragon-esq) while the newer depictions are much more akin to the modern image of a demon.

My favorite Daedric Prince and honestly the most misunderstood. I think you guys captured his ideals extremely well. He is the tester, the Ruddyman, and dominator. Molag Bal helps those who are weak become strong, and those who remain weak toil. His order is the most fair to me. Because in truth Power is all that matters in the end. Your willpower is what defines you. If you lose that, you’re no better than a soul worm working in his catacombs.

There is also a book that talks about how molag bal sent his minions to come through oblivion to find an atronach as elegant as a fire atronach but as cold as a frost atronach to better fit in his realm. Hence the cold fire atronoch. Which not so coincidentally matches his preferred way of power manifestation, molag bals cold fire.

As far as the Sauron imagery goes, I think that may have been a clear design choice for lore reasons. Both Molag Bal and Sauron are demon-type characters, who have been around almost forever in their own worlds, who also both heavily favor the corruption and domination of other things. Having Bal use some of the same style is very fitting with the two characters being very similar. Several examples of similarity include orcs, the Nazgul, and other minions being ruined forms of life, Mordor being desolate and inhospitable like Coldharbour is, and Sauron using a mace like Bal does, while being very deceptive and trying to take over the world. It's the exact same type of guy, just in a different world.

While I'm sure we'll never see her again, having Serana be a cameo for a small Elder scrolls VI quest would be interesting. If TESVI is Hammerfell and Highrock, Imagine walking into Daggerfall and picking up a higher level witcher esq quest in the fighters guild where bodies have been found with blood drained. You head to the coroner and investigate that last of the bodies before they're burned, due to a suspected Vampire attack. The coroner tells you that they all have been bitten on the neck and drained of blood. They're also all armored with a strange image, the likeness of the sun carved into their helms and shields. Its believed they're apart of some sort of religious order. You ask where the last victim was and head there. You find a small trail of blood droplets that lead you to a rundown alleyway in the slums of the city. At the end of the dark alley, you see a woman standing over another body. She turns to look at you and her eyes glow hot, like the fires of Oblivion itself. Its clear she's a vampire, but before you could attack she casts a spell and initiates dialogue with you. She tells you that this man she killed is a vampire and that they bodies you've found are his doing, not hers. You're given the option to persuade her, asking her what who she is and who were the people murdered. Which results in her telling you she is a Vampire that's been on the run from those armored thugs for a while. She hid here in Daggerfall, as many Vampires walk amongst the populace unbeknownst to the public. Yet when the Dawnguard came into town, some of my kind thought it a good idea to act out and murder them. Setting the locals on edge. Our kind thrives on secrecy, making our existence known to the public doesn't exactly draw the right kind of attention. You're given the option to outright attack her, which results in her telling you she's sorry it had to be this way before exiting dialogue and starting a boss battle with her transforming into her Vampire Lord state, polymorphing into a swarm of bats rushing past you before attacking you. You could further ask her about the location of the source of all these Vampire attacks, which has her tell you a clan of Vampires operates in the nearby sewers. You could let her go, and she says that she's leaving the province. Highrocks attracted too much attention and she needs to leave before the Dawnguard finds her. She thanks you, and says its been a long time since she's found someone she feels she can trust before turning into a swarm of bats and flying off into the moonlight. If you didn't ask her about the information, you head back to the guild to tell them that the vampire responsible was slain at the end of an alley, with the option to tell them about Serana. (They mention that they don't like the idea of you letting a vampire go, scolding you a bit, but they consider the quest closed for now). If you killed Serana, they tell you its good you got rid of that fiend too. No telling whether or not she was telling the truth or just trying to avoid an open conflict. Well done. If you did ask Serana about the source of the Vampire attacks, you're given the option to burst in going full rambo and killing all the blood sucking scum yourself or going back to the guild and telling them of the source. Resulting in them giving you a small squad of adventurers to lead into the sewers to purge the threat. (If you went into the sewers alone and come back, they thank you and give you a promotion of rank). Just some fun things I though of while listening to this video, thanks for reading this far. I know it was a bit of a read.

Talking about lore from eso being applied to elder scrolls 6 can work to some degree. My opinion would be that the good lore from eso can be carried over easily enough and the cringe or bad lore can be part of the legends or tales told over a campfire not necessarily held as 'true' but just stories like the wig wearing scamps.

Y'all didn't really give this guy justice! His character is actually pretty complex. He's bully and an abuser - deep down, he has a sucking insecurity and cynical worldview that he sates with self-aggrandizing displays of power. When Mehrunes Dagon threw down his dominion of Lyg, Molag Bal was humbled for the first time and has never felt secure since.
@manga925
@manga925 2 жыл бұрын
What makes you think he is insecure? He helped make V night omnipotent and let him cut his dick off. He gave Rada Saran a mortal potentially stronger then a dragon born immortality. He was happy the eso hero kicked his ass. It seems like his domination is just to create more Dagons. He seems to love strength to overcome trauma.
@monsieurdorgat6864
@monsieurdorgat6864 2 жыл бұрын
@@manga925 I think that because what he's doing is the god-equivalent of a typical male mid-life crisis of buying an expensive truck while beating his wife. He feels emasculated, and does crazy shit to feel like how he thinks he should feel. Vivec tricked Molag Bal by seducing him - because deep down MB is lonely and unloved (which, he is, because he's an asshole, but he doesn't understand that). MB intimately confided in Vivec that he doesn't like that his "love" hurts people. After Vivec gets what he wants from MB, he calls MB ugly in all ways and casts him off. Vivec used MB, only further making MB feel salty, emasculated, and further distrusts consensual relationships. Just like any bully, his inability to understand consensual relationships means he only begins respecting you once he fears you. Subconsciously, he wants you to leave him alone because now he feels as your subordinate, and he would hate for you to finish the job like Mehrunes Dagon did in Lyg. This is what happens with your ESO character. His personality archetype is an interesting one because it's one we see a lot in real life amongst incels, pickup artists, domestic abusers, and other emasculated fascists. It's a shockingly human personality, albeit an awful one. Basically, Molag Bal can be pretty well characterized in the Tool music video: Prison Sex.

@disconcerningcitizen2224
@disconcerningcitizen2224 2 жыл бұрын
@@monsieurdorgat6864 it's in the lore book adversarial spirits. The daedric princes are not "emotional" like mortals they are infinite and their actions aren't fully knowable. They are concepts given will. That's why the anticipations are called living gods, they are just overpowered mortals. The politics of oblivion are complex and shadowed. Azura cursed the chimer, because daedric princes are powered by mortal prayers, princes need every advantage when fighting each other, the mundus is a speck on sea of infinity. The games don't show us all the inter-oblivon politics like when molag bal had to get the cure for vampirism from vaermina. They don't and never have operated by human standards.

On the topic of the flowery perfume smell in Coldharbour. I think that it would be so that you never acclimatise to the stench of decay. I imagine it to be an overpowering and sickly sweet smell (like when you open an air freshener in a car) followed by a smell foul beyond comprehension

Blue flame=hotter only applies when talking about standard gas torches and related. Other than that, all sorts of colors of flame can be created depending on the material that is burning, or in other words, "the source of the energy". Much like how fire, created by restoration sun magic, destruction magic, and cold-harbor magic, all burns with different colors, as they are "drawing energy from different sources"

Domination doesn't even seem like a chaotic sphere. An obsession with domination implies the need for rigid control. Chaos implies absence of control, stuff flying out of control, like the pure destruction Mehrunes Dagon brings.

My personal opinion is that he's actually a former mortal who achieved chim and after realising the world isn't real, decided to just have as much fun as possible. To him, that's inspiring fear in mortals and corrupting people into villains.

@@wolffpup245 Well as far as I'm aware, the only other instances of gods with physical bodies are mortals who achieved chim. It's also odd how out of the all the gods, Vivec chose Molag Bal to try and get the word 'Chim' out of them.

For anyone who hasn't been lucky enough to smell a decaying corpse, it does have an almost sweet smell to it. Not a pleasantly sweet smell, but a putrid, sickly sweet smell. That could be the aroma that was described in Coldharbour.

What I love about molag bal is that because of his crabby origins what others call corruption can easily be evolution or he could perceive it as molting your shell tofu a new environment. I imagine though as a mortal he would get sick of molting for his environment would want his environment to molt form him and his personality

Great podcast. Molag Bal seems to have a lot more information about him than any other of the Daedric Princes. Here is some food for thought with in regards to TES6. Majority of the Elder Scrolls games feature the main antagonist of the game as either a Daedric Prince or some sort of Demi-God type of creature. Not all of the games, but most of them. Though I would rather TES6 be my own theory on what the story would be, do you all think that we may get TES6 as another big bad Daedric Prince invasion type story? Excluding Arena and Daggerfall, the trend seems to be Demi-God, Daedric Prince, Demi-God... (Dagoth Ur, Mehrunes Dagon, Alduin) if so, you think we may get a Molag Val type invasion for TES6? Or are we all ESO Planesmeld exhausted?

Vigilant gives Molag Bal way more characterization than anything Bethesda is capable of (its storytelling is a bit vague though, so there's a fair amount of inference and interpretation going on). But it's stuff like implications that he was in love with Lamae and turning her into a vampire was his way of saving her from mortality. Or that he wants to mantle Shezzar, but is physically unable to because of all the terrible things he's done and it's his own psychology and guilt holding him back in a self destructive cycle. There's also stuff about how he and Jyggalag have been going back and forth at each other since the dawn of time. You know, Bal curses Jyggalag with insanity, Sheogorath drives Bal to madness so he thinks raping his girlfriend to undeath is something she would be cool with -- classic bro shit. And, most importantly, Bal's endgame isn't ruling Tamriel, but killing the aedra and destroying Aetherius -- something the player can actually help him achieve if they aren't careful in their playthrough.

It should be pointed out that molag bal is one of the original spirits like the other daedric princes. Just because he led the Dreugh to rule the world doesnt mean he started life as one. Plus side note wasnt vivec in her female form during the encounter with bal? Given vivec births a race of monsters after.
