I lost 30 in 12 weeks on a 1500 cal. I pulled that deficit out of the air before research. Way too fast and lost too much muscle which is hard to regain at the age of 70. Turns out I'm maintaining on 3000 calories so 1500 was way too much of a deficit.

You must be very active at 70 years old to burn 3,000 cal a day. I’m an active 49 year old, 10% body fat, average 14,000 steps a day (good portion is running), and lift daily. I only burn around 2,400 calories a day.
@58gennaro9 ай бұрын
I dropped to 150 lbs for a bit but once I increased my calories slowly to 3000, I'm probably at the weight I belong. currently averaging about 10 k steps. I lift 7 days a week. I've been at 158 - 160 lbs for a month. I'm pleasantly surprised I can maintain my weight (so far). 3000 calories on plant based whole food is a lot of food. I eat 5 times a day. I get around 160 grams of protein and a lot of carbs. If I see my weight creeping above 160, I'll cut calories by cutting carbs.
@cmyskinsfan8 ай бұрын
Thank you for this. I’ve tried losing weight before and had some success on a calorie restriction and walking but saw diminishing returns and eventually stopped and gained all the weight back. Trying again but this time I’m going high protein, slightly less calories restricted, while prioritizing lifting with some cardio on the side. I’m hoping to build muscle while burning fat so my metabolism doesn’t slow down, and I know eating a lot of protein is the only way to do this… scared of failing again but so sick of being obese… hope it works this time!

Good work sir. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I have one question. Do you have any idea how much protein our body can actually process and use at a time? I am asking because I do not know myself. I have heard years ago that our bodies can only process X amount of protein per meal. But, I do not know what X was or if the body processing protein can be limited. Thank you.

Love the recipes and food prep ideas. I hope that people understand 1600 calories is not healthy for anything more than a cut or if you're 130lbs. You say it here, this is for getting lean, and I hope people aren't seeing this and living on that diet for extended amounts of time outside of an aggressive cut. I know this is old but please post how much your maintenance calories and macros are. I think it's important for your viewers to see someone cut on 1600 but go back to a higher calorie diet after the cut because 1600 calories is unsustainable in the long term.

True. I say aim for your weight to how many grams of protein. If you weigh 150 pounds then eat around 150 grams of protein. It just simplifies things and works.
@barrettorth841329 күн бұрын
Very true. There is a ridiculous amount of misinformation/myths out there regarding protein intake. The actual scientific studies recommend 0.8g of protein per (kg) of LEAN body mass, which is only around 0.35-0.40g per (lb) of LEAN body mass. Most amateur/novice lifters are told to eat 1-1.5g per (lb) of TOTAL body weight (including fat weight), which is 3-4 times more protein than they actually need. This broscience has largely been perpetuated by the supplement industry to sell their protein powder products, and by professional bodybuilders who are on huge amounts of steroids...and also shilling for their supplement industry paid sponsors.

Never take fitness or nutritional advice from young gymbro influencers. They lack the years of life experience and technical knowledge to actually know what they're talking about and are usually just shilling for some corporate sponsor or trying to get clicks. Most of these guys are also on some form of steroids, which drastically alters their results from that of their natty viewers.

find out what your base kcal consumption is before going for a diet of X amount of calories... different people different needs . If you are on a 2200 kcal consumption without exercising , and you exercise and exercise and spend lets say 400 kcal , your expenditure is 2600 . if you consume 1600 kcals you are at a 1000 kcal deficit which is unsustainable.
